The NFL Week 10 OAO Thread

Mike Sherman is a horrible coach IMO. The whole blitzing thing earlier this season was a total disaster for the team. Anyone with half a brain knew that it wasn't working after Thomas Jones ran wild on them in Week 2 but he stuck it out and dug a huge hole for the team.

Let's not forget the horrible call during the Playoffs last season when he pussied out on a 4th and 1 when they had been running all over Philly with Green.

And exactly how well are the Bucs playing now?

It's really a whole different team, but Gruden got over the "hump" with much the same players and schemes.

Sometimes you need a different coach to get those same players to play a little harder. Look at the dive the 49ers took with the same players and a coach change last season.

They were a 12-4 team that played themselves into a 9-7 record that year. They've consistently played below their talent level under him.

The Buccs did well under Dungy but they didn't get over the hump until they brought someone else in.

It was a different team. Al Groh made a stop before Herm. Al was the one that took over the 12-4 team.

You can place the blame for the whole blitzing thing earlier this season on the change in defensive coordinators and injuries. Remember, Ed Donatell has the Falcons defense in the top 10 in the league, and they were the #1 run defense until they got assraped by the Chiefs, while Slowik has done teribly adjusting to the loss of bulk on the defensive line. Grady Jackson and James Lee are both back now and the defense is playing better. They had to blitz like mad because they couldn't generate a pass rush with an undersized front seven, and they had to put some pressure on the quarterback because of that big hole at cornerback left by McKenzie.

Sometimes you need a different coach to get those same players to play a little harder. Look at the dive the 49ers took with the same players and a coach change last season.

Oh I agree with you, but Dennis Erickson is a HORRIBLY mediocre coach. Sherman has more victories in his first 4 years as Packers coach than both Holmgren and VINCE F'N LOMBARDI. That has to go for something.

Though if he chokes in the playoffs again, I don't know how much longer we'll be seeing him around...

Really, Sherman is lucky to be alive today after getting in Sapp's face a couple years ago

Seeing Sapp rip Sherman's head off would be the highlight of my football life (aside from a Vikings Superbowl win)

Man this Tampa-Atlanta game was great up until a big sack by ATL's d and a fumble return for the TD.. Looks like it'll get challenged though.

Hey I might have an opportunity to win my game in kkk's league if the 3 early games I have differed (Tampa over Atlanta, Chicago over Tennessee, and St.Louis over Seattle) go in my favor. I'd prefer it that way rather than have additional stress to go with the Green Bay game.

Just like a Packers fan

And referring to earlier when someone asked why Alexander wasn't getting the ball for Seattle, he fumbled a couple minutes ago

Whoever in this thread said that Dave Wannstedt, Herm Edwards, and Mike Sherman are bad coaches clearly no absolutely nothing about football.

Um, I'm sorry snuff but Wannstedt doesn't belong in that list. Edwards and Sherman are decent coaches (maybe not A+, but certainly B-level) but Wannstedt is fucking terrible. The Dolphins with Ricky could have gone to the Super Bowl any of the last couple years if it wasn't for a shitty coaching staff that couldn't get their guys in the game.

Don't forget The Moustache's tenure with Chicago, in which he took a Ditka team to the playoffs his first year but then drove them into the ground not long after

Mike Martz is a bad gameday coach. He has no concept of clock management and is terrible at playcalling. The Rams have a ton of talent, yet have underperformed every year since Vermiel.

Dennis Erickson can't do anything and he badmouths his own team. I don't know why he even has a job.

I wouldn't say they underperformed in 2001, though... And he can't be really that bad at playcalling, since he was Vermeil's OC. Most people say he would still make a great OC rather than head coach.

The Bengals/'Skins game is one ugly game for color.

Black and Orange mixed with Gold, White and Maroon.

Well, Pittsburgh whipped Cleveland in a game where Ben Roethlisberger wasn't exactly on. I thought this one could've been a letdown game for the Steelers, but luckily, retarded Gerard Warren with his "I'm gonna hit Roethlisberger late and knock him out of the game!" bullshit, Antonio Bryant with his "Pittsburgh's defense is WEAK, yo!" routine, and Will Green deciding to pretend he isn't a 1st round bust and spitting in Joey Porter's face (and getting the snot knocked out of him) pregame ensured that the Steelers wouldn't be complacent.

Jeff Garcia got kicked around and Holcomb tossed a TD in garbage time. QB controversy?

Not a chance. Scoring a TD in garbage time doesn't mandate constroversy when Garcia got smackdowned by the best team in the league.

I'm starting to wonder if this Minnesota-Green Bay game is going to be another one of the overtime games.

And apparently the Minnesota O-line is confusing KGB with Dwight Freeney. KGB's actually playing rather decently... PASS RUSH~!

It does when the coach doesn't like you. And Butch Davis doesn't like Garcia.
