On both sides, discourse now moves swiftly from disagreement into demonizing, from contrast to caricature. The worst motives are always assumed. Both camps have polemicists who win popularity, ratings, and book sales by devising ever more clever ways of ripping the eyelids off their opponents. We all know the visceral satisfactions of hanging out with our home-team blogs and watching the TV or radio stations that fit our worldview. Our politicians and pundits happily supply us with the voodoo dolls and the pins. But we'd be smarter not to use them.

That's why we need something like Pardon the Interruption for politics. Knowledgable people that don't take everything so seriously yet can talk about politics without verbally jerking off their party.

An interesting read. Still, even though many of the points made can be true, there are still assholes on both sides that don't seem to know how to curb their excesses.

 

I think there ARE religious types who would love to impose a theocracy! Abortion IS morally repugnant, and could be abolished if the circumstances for its need were eliminated. So when you give an inch and they take a mile, no wonder no one is betting on the side of compromise. Its a nice ideal to have everyone recognize what the guy wrote about as truth but I'm not going to count on it. Humans are all too human, and they are greedy. I'd love to be shown I was wrong, but yanno about that experience thing....

I think it's discussing more of general America and not politicians. I'd like my in-laws to read it so they quit assailing me with Fox News reports proving that liberals are evil.
