More Superman news....

I think it's pretty safe to say that it's a strong possibility that Kevin Spacey might be losing the hair, pointing the finger and clashing with a man in a cape next year.

The actor confirmed with IESB today that he has indeed been approached to play Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer's "Superman".

Spacey, who worked with Singer on "The Usual Suspects", says he'd like to work with the young director again, and at the moment can see only his position as Artistic Director of the Old Vic in London causing a conflict. But having said that, nothing's set in stone.

Should Spacey find time in his 'busy' schedule, he'll join Brandon Routh - Superlad - on set in Sydney next year.

I won't complain if he's cast, but I'm not picturing him as Luther at all. Well, at least not the Lex I know from the animated shows.

This combined with the rumor of Jude Law as Zod, has this film shaping up nicely.

The DC films seem to be taking a more mature approach, as opposed to the more juvenile approach of the Marvel films. Let us not include Catwoman as a DC film, but it seems that WB has learned a lesson from it.

You have to wonder which version of the character Spacey will be playing (there are several different ones). Since this movie loosely follows the first two movies he may be playing a Luthor similar to Hackman's version.

Other than Hackman in the Reeve films, they only Luthor I know is from the animated shows. This is why I wouldn't complain, lack of knowledge outside of cartoons.

I hope they go the route of the cartoons, instead of the Hackman route. I like powerful criminal businessman Lex better than the way Hackman played him. They can transform him from con man to criminal tycoon in the new movie and do it in a way that makes sense.

Well that is good news.

But who is Lois?

And what is the villian situation?

Mischa Barton from The O.C. is lined up to play Lois Lane.

The villain situation appears to be Lex Luthor, General Zod & other possible Phantom Zone villains following him vs. Superman.

Topher Grace from That 70's Show is being courted to play Jimmy Olsen. Grace is a year or two older than the lead guy who will be playing Superman.

You're probably right since I haven't checked up on that since I first heard her name dropped. The other girl from The O.C. would be okay with me if she played Lois.

The list of possibles that I've heard is...

Evangeline Lilly (lost)

Charisma Carpenter

Mischa Barton

Keri Russell

Natalie POrtman

mia kirshner

Supposedly Barton was cast in another movie and because of schedule conflicts is now off the list. I never looked into any of this to see if there's any truth, so take it all as rumors.

Just wondering what you mean by the "juvenile" approach of the Marvel films?

Do you mean in the sense that the D.C. films seems to be casting more mature/serious actors, or the feel of the films or something else?

Just curious.

Which Marvel films were juvenile anyway? X-Men, Blade, Spiderman, Hulk, Punisher? Maybe Daredevil, but compared to the dreck that's been Batman and Robin (somewhat old, but still) and Catwoman, I don't see it....

Aside from Catwoman, you mean Aquaman and Green Lantern? ;)

Compare the Batman Begins trailer with most Marvel movies so far. There's just a darker tone that DC/WB seem to be taking.

I don't mean it as an insult. I'm basically referring to the casting of Batman Begins, the rumored casting of Superman and the tone of Batman Begins. Since I'm basing it on casting rumors, it could easily change. The DC films just seem to be taking a more serious and darker approach.

By juvenile, I mean the marvel films have an overall lighter tone and tend to not seem as serious. Of course, Blade, Punisher and Hulk are exceptions, but everyone seems to hate Hulk and Punisher. Also, didn't they change alot with Blade?

Batman and Robin is irrelevant to this, and well lets just ignore Catwoman as a Halle Berry "i'm a strong woman" action vehicle. Aren't Green Lantern and Aquaman nothing but rumors at this point?

UGH to Barton as Lois. Can we please try and cast a REAL actress for this role, not whichever young starlet is currently in the nation's most popular teen show?

This combined with the rumor of Jude Law as Zod, has this film shaping up nicely.

Law as Zod would be fucking kingsized.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD.

Evangeline Lilly

She's relatively young so she's got youth on her side. I need to watch more Episodes of Lost before I form any opinion on her being Lois-like. Pending.

Charisma Carpenter

Too old. Lois is older than Superman in the comics by like 2 or 3 years but CC is almost 10 years older than the guy playing Supes. Sorry sweet thang, pass.

Mischa Barton

Seriously...no. I'd take Mischa's brunette-r counter-part on The O.C. over her for this role. Eat a fuckin steak or somethin. Huge pass.

Keri Russell

I can't see it. She's blonde and I just don't see her having an edge to her like Lois does. Pass.

Natalie POrtman

In the 1995 edition of the History of DC comics, there was this incredible sketch of Lois done by either Jerry Shuester or Curt Swan. The one thing that stood? Tha tittays. Natalie's got none. She's got the...personality and acting scope to play Lois but, goddamn, she needs some tirts before I'd green light her ass into this. At least Margot Kidder had some utters to her along with being schizo. Too-small-of-a-rack pass.

mia kirshner

So far, she's the only one out of this bunch I could see as Lois. She's got the look, the rack, and the acting ability to pull off the job. Plus, she'll let a guy take a dump on her chest, er, nevermind. This girl is in the lead with me. Lead.

Erica Durance

Only if Tom Wellington was playing Supes. Pass. The movie doesn't need to be saddled with any Smallville folks (which is unfortunate). No-need-for-confusion pass.

Mia Kunis from That 70's Show should really get a look. She has the goods to play Lois I feel. Body, tits, and the type of personality needed. At least, I think she'd do better than any of these skags.

... ummm...

Are you honestly saying that they should be more worried about how much of a rack the actress has than if she is a capable actress?

I honestly don't mind Natalie Portman's small tirts.

I mean, shit, I wouldn't be kicking THAT out of my bed just because she ain't top-heavy.

I'm a breast man so excuse my bias towards Nat. She's easy on the eyes anyways.

Kunis has got the bitch factor to her that I don't see Natalie with tho. Plus, Lois can act *very* hyper and that's like Jackie from That 70's Show in a nutshell. She was born to play Lois.

Portman would be the second girl I'd go with but Mia Kirshner is the one who I think could be a great Lois out of the list above. Possible sleeper performance. Nat's a gifted actress but I think Kirshner could surprise some folks if given the chance.
