Paul Heyman Bashes TNA Promotion

Recommended Posts

Guest wrestling365

Paul Heyman, Bubba Ray Dudley, Tazz, Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer and Rey Mysterio all appeared on the WWE.com Internet show 'Byte This' last night. They were on to push the "Rise & Fall of ECW" DVD which went on sale across the country earlier this week. It was an interesting show full of inside jokes and shoot comments. It was revealed that Heyman was getting $1000 a week from Vince McMahon while he ran ECW. Heyman bashed the TNA promotion and says they aren't competition to anyone due to the way they lose money. He noted that TNA have lost more money in two years than he lost in seven years running ECW. "I don't event know how much money they've lost...$9 million? $10 million, some reports have it at $15 million! Jerry Jarrett will go down as a brilliant business man because it isn't his own money, it's Panada Energy's."

Doesn't sound good for TNA, I wonder they'll send out another mock press release on this...

The whole BYTE THIS! episode is awesome here's a run down from Meltz site as well:

--Harrison Hewitt

You've got to listen to the Byte This episode from earlier tonight. Paul

Heyman was in studio, and you had Bubba Ray Dudley, Tazz, Tommy Dreamer,

RVD, and Rey Mysterio all phoning in.

This was not the usual kayfabe radio show WWE does; this was a great show.

Heyman talks about him being on the WWE payroll for the first time

publically, TNA and how Jerry Jarrett is a conman, and tons of great inside

stuff; Tazz talks about how he doesn't like the title to the ECW DVD and how

the Tazz with one "z" would have been fired from WWE 5 years ago; RVD talks

about being restricted in in the WWE today; Dreamer jokes about not being

able to get a job on the roster, and we also have the return of Beulah

McGillicutty over the phone; and Rey Mysterio talks about how WWE is

mismanaging the cruiserweight division, and says if an ECW was around today

he would join them in a second.

For a company that seemingly didn't care to recognize who TNA was, they sure went to great lengths to bury them with a "very special edition" of Byte This. I don't know how WWE convinced Heyman to do it, though...

Heyman still doesn't have a place to talk.

Wasn't his official debt when ECW closed around $7.5 million?

It was around that amount and he was open about that.

I think the point he was trying to make is he lost half the amount TNA have already lost and was in business for a great many years longer than they have been.

Heyman talks about King Mabel and the crowd chanting ECW during the coronation. He talks about all the cartoonish characters back in the day and how ECW provided a different product. I wonder what Paul thinks of things today...

EDIT: I guess this really isn't about Heyman bashing TNA, my fault. :)

At least Jarrett's workers get paid, Paul E.

At least Heyman made an impact on the business.

...And I don't even like ECW...

This is great stuff. Dangerously and co are burying WWE, and I don't know that anyone there will realise it.

Paul goes off on how Taz with one Z would have been fired from the WWE because he says Taz told him the truth back in the ECW days and argued about the product because they cared. Heyman says today people couldn't handle it if you told them that they should go a different direction and that what they are doing is the wrong way to go. Awesome.

Tommy Dreamer, as they joke about why he and Heyman can never be in the same room together:

"We think alike, and if we get together then something good might happen in wrestling, and we can't have that."

Heyman bashed the TNA promotion and says they aren't competition to anyone due to the way they lose money.

This is utterly hilarious. At least TNA actually pays there talent unlike Heyman was for the last year or so of ECW's existence. He's the last person that should talk about a company losing money.

That's actually not what he says in the interview. He says Jerry Jarrett is brilliant because he's losing someone elses money, but he still thinks they aren't competition. He says he WISHES they were competition and that the WWE NEEDS competition right now, but he doesn't think they are.

Just watching the Byte This episode with Heyman and all the former ECW stars, brings back memories of how my interest was brought back to Prowrestling after WWF/WCW totally lost me in the early/mid 90's. I will be asking for this DVD for christmas. I think I am gonna go pop in an ECW tape right now as we speak.....

Oh, how did everyone like that brief appearance by Beulah on Byte This. That was pretty cool.

I think Heyman made a lot of great points, some have already been stated ad nasuem ala how ECW sort of gave birth to WWE attitude and such, but he was also very candid about things we haven't heard discussed publicly, such as his REAL attitudes toward the difference between the way Bischoff and Vince interacted with ECW. I am also intrigued now to see what Bischoff says on the dvd, because on Byte This Heyman says that on the dvd Bischoff totally denies raiding talent..but who knows. I also wished a caller would have asked the specifics and details about the whole Tod Gordon "mole" incident, and I wonder if that is brought up at all on the dvd,

Just got done watching Byte This, you guys really need to watch this. Just to see Heyman beaming when he talks about Tazz or RVD or Dreamer is great stuff. Brings back a lot of memories and the passion these guys all had/have for ECW is just amazing. It just shows how ECW had HEART and EMOTION, something the WWE is sorely lacking these days.

Heyman telling the Super Crazy story where the fans counted "uno, dos, tres" was just fantastic. So much cool stuff on this episode, I really wish it could have gone longer. When Heyman leaves the WWE, I really want to see a shoot video of his.

... and who woulda believed this... Heyman told the story of how Beulah turned down $10,000 to come back for a one-time ECW appearance after she left in 1998... I'd probably take it up the BUTT from Heyman for 10 grand :) :spank:

Anyway, Beulah... I hear her and Tommy had twins earlier this year, congrats!

Before I sign off, I just wanted to mention another great point Heyman made about ECW. He was talking about how they showed a clip of Rey Jr. losing, but the match was excellent and that is what mattered in ECW. He talked about how it didn't really matter who won or lost, as long as the match was good, and that everyone left the ring with more then they walked to the ring with. I think that is also a major problem in WWE right now and over the past few years is that people go out of their way to book matches in order to make someone else look like crap, even though they are retaining a title in the process, and that is just not good for business and screams of self promotion.

I just watched this, and I'm glad Heyman called out Vince for jobbing Tazz to HHH during the whole Awesome debacle. I didn't really think it was a fair thing to do, loaning Taz in response for a job that would basically kill the credibility of ECW's belt, and I'm pretty sure Heyman wouldn't have agreed to that if it had been put in explicit terms. I didn't like it at the time, the way they jobbed Benoit and Taz to HHH clean rather than building something meaningful from two historic moments, and the more history makes it set in the less I like it

All reviews I have seen have said that Bischoff comes off as a total asshole on the DVD.

I'm getting it in the mail tomorrow, can't wait to see it.

Bischoff basically vehemently denies ever purposely raiding ECW's talent roster.

Then, they cut to Heyman saying that Bischoff is full of shit.

Well, it's a good thing Paul E. knows Jarrett's financials so well...

He was stupid to even mention them. Any time you mention a rival on any sort of program, it just makes people want to go and find out more about it.

Well, except the jobbers.

TNA says they're not deserving enough to actually earn money for their work.

They really are no better than ECW - except ECW was much more entertaining.
