USA Network wants Raw

Recommended Posts

Guest Trivia247

Thanks to TVFrenzy.com:

USA is set to become one of the final cable networks to establish a clear brand image. Unlike most cable networks who look to reestablish themselves, USA has no need to do so - it's doing its strongest ratings in years.

Branding the network won't be easy, however, due to the network's diverse range of programming. From "Nashville Star" to "The 4400" to "Monk," the network is hardly consistent.

One of the most important interests of the "new" USA is bringing back WWE RAW, its former flagship program that left for TNN (now Spike TV) a few years ago. WWE RAW is heavily negotiating to keep it on Spike TV, but is considering NBCUniversal's cable network as well.

USA is also looking to seize the rights to Sunday Night NFL.

WWE's ratings started to plummet when they moved to TNN/The New TNN/Spike TV/The Mens Network/Every fucking name they have used.

It doesn't matter what station WWE is on if the product still sucks. Maybe switching stations would be inspirational to them and help to motivate them to show that they can still "bring it?"

Hopefully, if they do sign on with USA, one of the stipulations would be for Raw to get a fresh look and for the brand extension to be ended to enable the show to have a larger poll of talent to work with.

This could be good. Say Fox Sports doesn't do the Best Damn Wrestling Event Monday night TNA show like the rumors are suggesting. It's conceivable that Spike or USA, whoever the losing network is, would want a rival wrestling show.

Coincidence. Stephanie McMahon was made head of creative at the same time, that's what killed the product. Not the move.

Not completely.

Wasn't there a statement where less people got TNN/Spike TV than USA Network when the change first happened?

Im pretty sure with USA that they can get RAW in HD, since the prospects of USA going HD anytime soon are better than Spike TV.

In fact they could probably put it on Bravo HD (soon to be Universal HD) because Bravo HD simulcasted a lot of USAs programming in HD.

BC Universal Cable will relaunch Bravo HD+ to Universal HD, offering the best programming from the NBC Universal library in HD, beginning December 1, 2004.

Universal HD will feature blockbuster films, unedited and uninterrupted, including Backdraft, Back to the Future, Billy Madison, Far and Away, Jaws, The River Wild and Sea of Love; award-winning dramas including SCI FI's Battlestar Galactica, USA's The District, Karen Sisco, Law & Order: SVU and Monk; top rated sports such as the US Open and performance arts and entertainment.

Getting shown in HD would be a good shot in the arm for RAW's ratings (and Smackdown's too since UPN is doing HD now).

The ratings suffered a very slight decrease, even before the man-beast took over.

Yes, there was a slight decrease, but it wasn't anything significant. The big problem was Stephanie.

Regardless, USA won't ge them back unless they stop the Dog Show shit. RAW on Spike is at least on every Monday. It wasn't the case on USA.

Obviously the Christmas episode will get a horrible rating, but 3.8 is pretty good. I was lead to believe ratings dropped by more than 1.0 when moving to TNN.

That big December 18th Raw had the following matches:

Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn defeated The Hardy Boyz by Count Out

Billy Gunn defeated Intercontinental Champion, Chris Benoit, by Disqualification

The Dudley Boyz and The Rock defeated Edge, Christian, and Kurt Angle in a table match

Chyna defeated Women's Champion, Ivory, by Disqualification

The Acolytes defeated T&A

Jerry Lawler, K Kwick and Road Dogg defeated Bull Buchanan, The Goodfather, and Stevie Richards

Raven pinned Al Snow in a hardcore match.

For some reason, I remember the Dec. 25, 2000 episode for nothing else than being the one where K-Kwik said "Talk about a white Christmas!"

If Raw does move back to USA, I hope WWE has a stipulation where they can't get pre-empted by those damn Dog Shows and Tennis matches all the time.

Although I agree with the notion that it doesn't matter what station Raw is on... the writing and the ratings will still suck.

I hate to break it to you but the brand split is never going to end.

Austin turning heel is when everything started to tank, viewership-wise.

Nobody wanted to boo Austin.

Yup.

And the formation of The Unholy Alliance (Austin and Triple H) and having them hold ALL of the gold (WWF Champion, IC Title, and Tag Ttitles).

That's when WWF/E started to go down the drain.

That's when WWF/E started to go down the drain.

Yeah, when I wrote that, I thought, "And HHH cementing his heel status, aligning with Austin when it was obvious the fans wanted HHH to take out Austin, was almost a double slap in the face to the fans."

Although, I will be the first to admit I initially liked the idea and found the concept of Austin & McMahon on the same side after all the years of their larger than life war with each other to be intriguing. The problem was they had no big time babyface to counter him. They aligned HHH with Austin, so that scenario was down the toilet (which was a double whammy because the fans obviously wanted HHH to take out Austin). The Rock was leaving to go make The Scorpion King, so that was no good. Their first big feud was against...The Hardy Boys, which did nothing to elevate Matt or Jeff (and in fact, the argument could be made that it further buried Jeff). The only things memorable that came out of that was Steve Austin begging off for the first time in his WWF career, the unforgettable/unfathomable Austin quote of, "Matt Hardy just beat my ass!", and Austin annihilating Lita with a steel chair. In other words, nothing that would have made money.

But the McMahon/Austin idea was a good one as long as Austin had a viable opponent. It's not really a memorable match to the general community, but I saw the Tag Title match on Smackdown with Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit vs. Steve Austin & Vince McMahon as unbelievable just because Austin & McMahon were on the same side in a tag team. But HHH should have been Austin's opponent, which made sense because they just came out of the feud that was born from HHH having Austin run over with a car.

I'd like Raw to move back to USA because it brings back memories.

However, ratings won't rise what-so-ever if they don't do anything about the product itself. Simple as that.
