Guest The Gecko Report post Posted November 21, 2004 I'm too cheap to buy Nintendo DS, so I'm thinking about selling my Gameboy Advance and getting an SP (the light-up screen is a must have for me). I only have one game though, what are some games I should get?

Guest The Gecko Report post Posted November 21, 2004 I pretty much like anything, but I've been in to Strategy and RPG type games lately. I heard Advance Wars was a good one, but I was wondering what everyone else thought.

Guest CronoT Report post Posted November 21, 2004 You might want to try Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Also, if you like strategy and planning and such, you might want to buy one of the Yu-Gi-Oh! games. I have Eternal Duelist's Soul, or something like that. You also might want to consider buying some re-released classics, such as Breath of Fire II, Zelda 1, 2, or 3, or something similar.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2004 I'd recommend Wario Ware since you can literally play it 5 minutes at a time. It's great if you're on the bus/subway and can't invest that time to playing an RPG. Another good short-on-time game is Mario Golf Advance.

I heard Advance Wars was a good one, but I was wondering what everyone else thought. Advance Wars & Advance Wars 2 are both good investments. I'd also pick up Fire Emblem as well - it incorporates turn-based strategy elements into an RPG.
Special K 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2004 Fire Emblem is good, but if you have some time, Tactics Ogre Advance bests both FFTA and Fire Emblem. (On PSX, it's the oppositte, I loved FFT, hated Tactics Ogre. This Tactics Ogre is MUCH better.) The Castlevania games are almost universally good, and are pretty much action RPGs. I'd also throw on Advance Wars 2 in addition to the original Advance Wars and Metroid Zero (deluxe remake of Metroid, includes emulated copy of original Metroid as an extra) in addition to Metroid Fusion. In addition to the games listed, I'd also recommend any Tony Hawk game, Super Mario Advance 2 (Super Mario World), Arcade Advance (6 Konami arcade games including Frogger and Gyruss, runs about $10 or less), Activision Anthology (25+ old Atari 2600 games including Kaboom and Pitfall), and Onimusha Tactics (strategy game similar to Final Fantasy Tactics). AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2004 "I've compiled a list from what you guys have posted, and help from a few friends, any games on here I SHOULD NOT get?" I think Final Fantasy Tactics Advance sucks. I liked FFT, but... 1) The battle system is basically the same, but reeeeeally slow and tedious, which doesn't lend itself well to a portable game. 2) The Judges are an annoying aspect of the game, laying down vague, arbitrary rules to screw you over. 3) The story sucks and you have to wade through tons of cutscenes to get anywhere. 4) The main characters are wimps and losers. They're a bunch of crybaby FF geeks who you want to see die. Basically, Square is making fun of their own fanbase. Of course, this is what I put up with in the first hour or 4 of play, but it was the most tedious, hellish gaming experience of my life next to Xenosaga, so I quit a few battles after the Moogle wanted to name our party after testicles. Other recommendations: Ninja Five-O: Action game with a bad-ass ninja who also has a Turrican-style grappling hook. Hard to find, though. Double Dragon Advance: Best version of the classic beat 'em EVAR! If you're into the genre, skip Final Fight One and River City Ransom EX and go for this. AVOID Guardian Heroes Advance, though. Astro Boy; The Omega Factor: Platformer/beat 'em up where you blast the hell out of things, wallop waves of baddies and send them crashing into each other like Dominoes, and fight big ass bosses. I wish it was as good as Gunstar Heroes (it sadly ain't), but still is awesome. AVOID Guardian Heroes Advance, though. Konami Krazy Racers: Mario Kart, but with Konami characters, basically. Either this or the GBA Mario Kart is a good pick up.
teke184 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 I picked up Krazy Racers as one of my first four or five Advance titles. It's okay but I HATED the License Tests you took after a certain number of races. It's worth keeping around if only because you can be a character from almost any Konami game, including the NINJA~! from the Metal Gear Solid series.

Just how much better is it than the other Double Dragon games? BUTT 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2004 It has all the levels from the original arcade Double Dragon, plus a couple from the sequels and a couple of news ones. It also has a special survival mode where you face a nonstop barrage of enemies. It's pretty short, but it's a lot of fun.

I'd also like to add Super Mario Advance 3: Super Mario World 2 = Yoshi's Island to the list. It's somewhat of a Thanksgiving tradition to play the heck out of the SNES version, and I was reminded of what an awesome game it was. Heh, I've actually played the Master System version of DD myself. Pretty good, actually.
Guest The Gecko Report post Posted November 27, 2004 So I got my GBA SP today, Black Friday, and I also got 2 games at Meijer because that had buy 1 game get the other half off. Unfortunately, the only 2 games they had that were on my list (my Meijer has a poor selection) were Zelda: A Link to the Past and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga... Mad Dog, props for referring M&L's Superstar Saga, I was a little iffy when I bought it, but now I love it. I had no idea it was going to be so much like Super Mario RPG (perhaps one of the best games ever) and of course Zelda, I knew that it was going to be good and it lived up to its reputation. Not much I can say about it other than its a great buy. Thanks again for your help guys.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 On a related note, I hear that the DS doesn't play GB/GBC games, just DS and GBA games.
Anya 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Yeah, FFT sucks. I wanted to like it, but it's just lame. The story is SO boring and the gameplay drags on. The law system is like the worst thing ever. I played like 20 hours before giving up.
