justsoyouknow Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Wow...that first pic Juaqin is pretty dead-on. I can't wait to see this one.
Nighthawk Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 It's going to be garbage. You know they'll sex it up like they do everything else.
Ravenbomb Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Wow. That takes care of that little nagging doubt about the casting
1234-5678 Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 It's going to be garbage. You know they'll sex it up like they do everything else. Alright, SEX! ::buys ticket::
godthedog Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Wow...that first pic Juaqin is pretty dead-on. I can't wait to see this one. i will never buy joaquin as johnny cash. ever.
justsoyouknow Posted December 4, 2004 Author Report Posted December 4, 2004 Wow...that first pic Juaqin is pretty dead-on. I can't wait to see this one. i will never buy joaquin as johnny cash. ever. He does look like a young Johnny Cash, though. Joaquin is a surprisingly decent actor when he puts his mind to it, I have faith in him.
justsoyouknow Posted December 4, 2004 Author Report Posted December 4, 2004 More This site's got some comparison photos...the resemblance is really uncanny.
Guest Evolution Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 i will never buy joaquin as johnny cash. ever. I can tell the difference between Joaquin and Johnny, but I can buy Joaquin AS Johnny, as opposed to someone like...Steve Harvey?
NYU Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Wow...that first pic Juaqin is pretty dead-on. I can't wait to see this one. i will never buy joaquin as johnny cash. ever. Well, a year ago, would you have bought Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles? I'm not a big fan of Joaquin Pheonix, but he may be able to do something good with this role.
Guest Cerebus Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Not that bad of a resemblance, not as good as Will Smith's look of Ali, but up there. I think Phoenix could pull this off provided he has a good script, which judging by the last two big biopics, Ray & Ali, is not likely.
Vern Gagne Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Better than Kevin Spacey has Bobby Darrin.
Guest PlatinumBoy Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 With all the talk of how Johnny looks, Reese doesn't quite look like June there.
Ravenbomb Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 She looks a lot more like June than herself
Vern Gagne Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Anyone have a list of who else is in the movie?

dubq Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Witherspoon should stick to fodder like Legally Blonde.. she's about as useless as Katie Holmes in a Batman flick.. oops.
Guest Cerebus Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Phoenix as Cash I could buy, but i just don't see Witherspoon as Carpenter. Anyone think that Cash's religious beliefs either get downplayed or tied with his drug/alcohol abuse?
Guest El Satanico Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 June herself handpicked Reese.
Guest Cerebus Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 June herself handpicked Reese. From the grave? June Carter has been dead since May of last year. Do you mean she picked Reese before she died? Edit: I meant "Carter" not "Carpenter." I tend to thinkof her as June Carpenter b/c my favorite duet of her and Cash is "If I was a Carpenter"
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 June herself handpicked Reese. From the grave? June Carpenter has been dead since May of last year. Do you mean she picked Reese before she died? Heh, this might be one of those stories that people use to make the casting seem more appropriate, whether the story is true or not. Someone told me that Ray Charles himself thought that Jamie Foxx was the best possible person to take his role for the movie. Right, like I'd trust Charles for his opinion on great acting
Nighthawk Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Let me acknowledge that a person choosing the actor to play themselves means absolutely nothing as far as the validity of the choice. Allow me a rare Simpsons reference: "It's obvious it should be... Gary Oldman!"
Guest MentallyNormal Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 They should of got James Garner to play older cash. That dude sort of sounds like him and looks like him as the older Cash.
Special K Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Alexander the Great picked Colin Farrell to play him. He thought he was hot.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 June herself handpicked Reese. From the grave? June Carpenter has been dead since May of last year. Right, like I'd trust Charles for his opinion on great acting Ray Charles DID approve of Jamie Foxx. He screened the movie...and I guess he liked what he heard.
Rob E Dangerously Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Joaquin looks like Johnny, but something with the hair seems wrong
TheBigSwigg Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Joaquin looks like he's got a little too much badass in his Johnny Cash. He needs to brood, not scowl.
