The Official Orange Bowl Thread

Recommended Posts

Okay it's not official until tommorrow but we know this will be the match-up. The game isn't for another month but we know someone is going to make 300 posts about it between now and then so might as well create it now.

Start your predictions.

Not so fast my friend! 400 posts! Someone start a count!

Anyways this is going to be a wild game. OU's defense is finally alive and the offense has always been alive.

The Heisman curse may factor into this one though......so...Leinart for Heisman! Then he can pass for 132 yards and 4 picks!

I wasn't followinig the SEC too closely this year, so I'm hoping someone can field this question with an intelligent answer...

What could Auburn have done differently over the course of the season to clinch an Orange Bowl berth?

Started the season ranked #1 or #2? That seems to be the main difference between all 3 teams.

The I-AA game didn't help them, but it wouldn't have mattered.

All three teams really deserve a shot at the winning the Nat'l Title.

So Auburn is going to be in New Orleans against VTech?

USC can't come out of the gate slow, like they have a lot of this season,Oklahoma is too good. I frankly don't trust a team that's done that pretty much all season to stop reguardless of the game.

Actually, the preseason rankings aren't really the problem, as the computers have a much larger disparity between Auburn and the other undefeateds than the polls do. Basically, when they were making the schedule, and they added The Citadel, Louisian Tech, and Louisiana Monroe, they were fucked. I heard that they had other teams scheduled that backed out, but it doesn't matter. They needed at least one major non-conference opponent to put them over the top. If they would have scheduled some mediocre team like OSU or Texas Tech and blown them out instead of playing straight cupcakes, they'd probably be playing for the title instead of Oklahoma.

Have you noticed that nobody has been able to run the ball against OU? Cedric Benson and Vernand Morency who are both comparable in skill to Bush(well at least Benson is) were stopped dead.

Leinart has to pass deep to win since that's where OU's big weakness is. However they do have Perkins back who was absent when they looked vunerable to the deep ball in those two games. But Leinart's going to have to win this game.

I don't think Bush will get much on returns b/c OU was all over that dude from Colorado as soon as he touched the ball last night. OU basically out ran the kick off and I think they'll probably do that and be in Bush's face as soon as he touches the ball. He may be able to juke one but 4 of them in a line in front of him? He'll get stuffed.

Also that Offensive line for USC has to stand up and play better b/c OU leads the Big XII in sacks this season and Dan Cody will want to get his hands on Leinart.

That being said OU's offensive line has gotta work on picking up the blitz better. They showed against Baylor they were vunerable to it until they pick up on it. So if USC can blitz early they may be able to rattle White early if they just hit him repeatedly. Then again Baylor hit White repeatedly and he wasn't rattled but USC still has a chance to do that.

I think both teams will load up to stop the run so it's going to have to be the secondary that performs. And both teams have shown(USC did against UCLA) that their secondary is vunerable.

Also both of these teams have shown that they are second half teams. Both have staged there comeback and had their best performances in the second half of most games.

Although OU didn't come out of the gates slow against Colorado b/c they were so fired up. So they may be crazy against USC. I dunno.

I think both teams would have problems with Auburn based off the fact that both teams are second half teams and Auburn jumps on you so early.

So Auburn is going to be in New Orleans against VTech?

That was the last projection of it I saw, earlier.

I also saw Texas/Michigan in the Rose Bowl, but, that's for another thread...

Are you serious? People actually listened to Mack Brown's whining and moved Texas up? Oh well, the bias towards the Big XII continues.

That was the projection that Brad Edwards made on ESPN.com. He says he isn't moving Texas above Cal but he thinks that it's still going to happen. Remember only 4 people have to change their vote.

And you know Mack Brown was on the phone campaigning last night. I heard he promised health care and social security reform if they send him to the Rose Bowl.

I was actually thinking last night that it'd be funny if USC, Auburn, and Cal all lost so that Texas could get their ass whipped by OU again.

This pisses me off. It's the same kind of bullshit that cheated Michigan out of sole ownership of a National Title that only they had a legit claim to in 97.

Well blame the god damn voters.

I think it's funny that people go nuts over the computers putting down a screw job when the voters have been the ones to keep Auburn and Cal out this year.

The computers were put into place to control the voters. Doesn't look like it's doing it's job.

It pains me to say this, but after last night's performance, it's basically OU's title for the taking.

Don't say that! You'll jinx them!

But as long as we're on the subject.....why do you feel that way?

Well... let's look at the two respective teams...

USC vs UCLA- Outcome in question with 2 minutes or so to go and UCLA being down by 4 or 5, in deep USC territory. It took a timely interception to solidfy USC's spot.

OU vs CU- I'm not entirely sure which team is better, UCLA or CU, but the fact that CU is the champ of North, I will give them the benefit of doubt, well OU handled them very easily.

In fact I'm so disappointed in USC's performance I'd be willing to let Auburn play in the Orange Bowl instead of USC, just because USC did not deserve it based on last night.

(AND YOU KNOW I'M AN USC FAN)

I just thought of something.

This game is going to have Antonio Perkins vs. Reggie Bush on punt returns.

Bush has 2 on the season and Perkins has tied the record for most returns in a career.

Bush will probably have the record when he graduates which makes this an even more exciting match up.

It looks like Ted Ginn Jr. should give Bush some competition for that record in the next few years.

Cal gets fucked over.

Fucking BCS always finds a way to completely screw things up. There's no reason why Texas made the jump when they didn't even play but I guess it wouldn't be the BCS without a Big XII team getting over at the expense of a Pac-10 team.
