Favourite Coliseum Video

Recommended Posts

Guest Lawlerm

Anyone have a favourite tape from all the non-PPV tapes released over the years? OK most of them sucked as a general rule but you got the odd hidden gem on a few of them and some others are cool to look back on just for nostalgia.

I'm in the process of putting all my old tapes on DVD and i've got a huge pile of Coliseum tapes, some of which i've never even bothered watching before just because they look so dire ie. High Flyers (released when a double axe-handle off the middle rope was considered "high flying").

Just like some opinions if anyone has a favourite tape that was better than they expected or anything i can look forward to while i'm doing this.

My favorite would have to be the Demolition tape. Ax and Smash just kicked so much ass in the late 80's.

The Bulldogs and Hart Foundation tapes were pretty sweet too.

Best of the WWF Vol. 11 has the kickass Savage/Race/Adonis v. Steamboat/Piper/JYD Elimination Match, Hogan/Piper vs. Orndorff/Race, and I'm sure something else I've forgotten.

I think a better topic would be Worst Coliseum Videos. For every good one, Coliseum put out at least 4 or 5 stinkers.

Mine would have to be Rowdy Roddy Piper's Greatest Hits. Just 90 minutes of primo Piper footage including Piper's Pit w/ himself.

More SNME was another good one. Rockers/Busters, Blazer/DiBiase, Hogan/Bossman in the cage match, Rooster's face turn, ect.

I watched Fan Favourites today and it opens with Koko B.Ware/Brooklyn Brawler. Sean Moodey actually tries to claim a fan requested it! I don't know how they kept a straight face doing some of these old tapes. Some girl reading off a card "I'd like to see Ultimate Warrior versus Earthquake. I think that could be one of the greatest matches of all time". I mean, do they have no shame?

Monday Night Raw: Prime Cuts is a great tape if no-ones ever seen it. It's a PAL copy i've got but i presume the same thing was released in North America. If anyones never seen it its a good watch and you could probably get it dirt cheap.

- Shawn Michaels v. Marty Jannetty

- Razor Ramon v. 1-2-3 Kid

- Doink v. Mr. Perfect

- IRS v. PJ Walker

- Yokozuna v. Crush

- The Steiner Brothers v. the Quebecers

- 20 Man IC Title Battle Royal feat. Razor Ramon v. Mick Martel

I like Wham! Bam! Bodyslam! I can't remember anything except Ted DiBiase hosted it and it featured a battle royal won by Bob Backland and a lumberjack match between Bret Hart and Owen Hart (That yours truly was in attendance for).

That's actually a pretty good tape with Savage/Virgil(Virgil's 1st WWF match) and a Jumping Bomb Angels match.

I assume you mean 1st TV Match, since he was wrestling House Shows teaming with Dibase and substituting for him.

I love Monday Night Prime Cuts, for the reasons specified above.

Also Wrestlefest 1993...

Terry Taylor vs. Randy Savage, which is all kinds of awesome. Money Inc. vs. Nasty Boys, in a match 100 times better then you would think it would be. Then Shawn Michaels vs. Virgil and Ric Flar vs. Mr. Perfect (loser leaves WWF). I mean what's not there to like (2 Repo man matches, but still).

Grudges, Gripes, and Grunts for me. Hart / Savage Vs. Flair / Michaels, Mr. Perfect Vs. Papa Shango, The Undertaker Vs. The Repo Man, and The Beverly Bros. Vs. Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake.

Rampage 91, Invasion 92, Global Warfare, and Invasion of the Bodyslammers are also up there.
