bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 So Eternal Sunshine which was depressing and really sad- gets nominated as a comedy. Jamie Foxx only got nominated for Collateral just because he's hot right now. And you didn't post the TV nominations that shows that Foxx got his third nomination
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Yeah, I'm looking for one that has FULL nominations. That's the closest I've come. http://www.empireonline.co.uk/site/news/ne...p?news_id=16429
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Just go to the official site. Even though I love her to death, Renee getting nominated for Bridget Jones while Hugh Grant and Colin Firth got snubbed is bullshit. Renee was fine as Bridget but I thought her character was at times a bit too annoying and too bitchy. She was really unlikeable. The guys totally carried the movie. Grant was hilarious and was having so much fun playing Cleaver again while Firth was perfect as Darcy. He didn't come off like the pompous prick that he did in the first movie and he totally convinced me that he truly loved Bridget and was willing to put up with all her shit. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Ray was a musical or comedy...not a drama?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Ray got counted as a musical. Ditto Beyond the Sea. Oh and Passion of the Christ got screwed
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Needed too, Passion was boring. And looks like Jim Carrey is headed for snubbed ville AGAIN by the Academy. This will be the third performance where I felt, and so did many others, that Jim Carrey should get a damn Oscar nod. Not saying he should win, but for god sake he deserves a nomination! Truman Show- snubbed Man on the Moon- he was the only positive and he was Andy, snubbed Eternal Sunshine- he's not getting the nod. And it looks like Jamie Foxx is headed for snubbville as well. Damn, the Academy is going to blow this badly.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Needed too, Passion was boring. I personally loved the movie and it greatly affected me. I only saw it once since it was just too violent and too upsetting to sit through. And looks like Jim Carrey is headed for snubbed ville AGAIN by the Academy. This will be the third performance where I felt, and so did many others, that Jim Carrey should get a damn Oscar nod. Not saying he should win, but for god sake he deserves a nomination I think he might get nominated as sort of a 'We're sorry you fucked you over all those years ago- we accept that you can act'. He was amazing in Eternal Sunshine. I'm still angry about him getting snubbed for Man of the Moon, one of my favourite films ever. In fact one of my teachers at school is a member of Academy and I yelled at hm that day when Carrey got snubbed. And it looks like Jamie Foxx is headed for snubbville as well. Damn, the Academy is going to blow this badly. Dude- he's gonna win the Oscar. He should too- if anyone else was in Ray that movie would've sucked

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 If Foxx gets the nod, Carrey is screwed. Plus Foxx more than likely will get a nod for Collateral so they will probably skip him for the Best Actor Oscar Nod. Which would be criminal but I can see them doing it to him. Johnny Depp is the new Tom Hanks to the Academy, so he'll get the nod. Don Cheadle will probably get a nod for Hotel Rwanda. Liam Neeson will get one. Paul Giamatti will get one. Leo will get one for his work on Aviator. I can't see a way for them to put Carrey in the five. Even though he gave a defining dramatic performance but oh well. The five, I think, should be: Paul Giamatti Jamie Foxx Jim Carrey Liam Neeson Leonardo DiCaprio Any list that doesn't include Carrey AND Foxx is bull. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 That's another thing- The Golden Globes seemed to go OMG CABLE!!!!~ just so they could like they were 'hip'. Without a Trace deserved something- if only just for 'Wannabe'. I'm surprised LaPaglia didn't get anything or the show didn't get a reward for finally knocking off ER
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA MICHAEL CHIKLIS THE SHIELD DENIS LEARY RESCUE ME JULIAN MCMAHON NIP/TUCK Unbelievable. Why? Those three are outstanding.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Plus Foxx more than likely will get a nod for Collateral so they will probably skip him for the Best Actor Oscar Nod. Which would be criminal but I can see them doing it to him. Foxx is definetley getting nominated for Ray and he's probably going to win too. The movie's been a rousing success, Foxx's performance is causing people to ignore a lot of the movie faults (including Ebert) and Ray Charles just died and had a comeback this year. Johnny Depp is the new Tom Hanks to the Academy, so he'll get the nod. Don Cheadle will probably get a nod for Hotel Rwanda. Liam Neeson will get one. Paul Giamatti will get one. Leo will get one for his work on Aviator. Kinsey has faded at the box office so I think Neeson will be ignored. Having 4 performances all based on real people is overkill and someone is going to get snubbed. I could see it being Leo or Neeson. I agree- they were my two favourite performances of the year. Kinsey bombing and Eternal Sunshine doing real well on DVD will only help Carrey. He's got to get a makeup nomination soon and this could be the year. Hotel Rwanda looks like the Schindler's List about Rwanda so I could see it getting some sentimental nods. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 If Carrey doesn't get the nod this year, I don't think he'll ever get one. That would be three great performances that went WAY to the left of what he usually does that get ignored. I always felt an actor showing range is what the Academy should recognize and a comedic actor showing off major drama chops should be what the Academy awards. When do the Academy lists get announced? I know it's sometime after the Golden Globes.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Academy Award nominations are in late January. If Carrey doesn't get a nod here then the Academy loses a lot of legitmacy in my eyes. Actors nominated actors- maybe it's jealousy of Carrey's success or something. If he doesn't get nominated I hope he doesn't go off the deep end and do a movie like the Magestic again. I love Carrey to death but that was a real sad attempt to get an Oscar nomination.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted December 13, 2004 BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA MICHAEL CHIKLIS THE SHIELD DENIS LEARY RESCUE ME JULIAN MCMAHON NIP/TUCK Unbelievable. Why? Those three are outstanding. Because what are the odds of the three leads from my three favorite shows actually getting nominated? That literally never happens and I wasn't expecting it seeing how both The Shield and Nip/Tuck were overlooked by the Emmys.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 MERYL STREEP THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE This was a surprise given the film, but well deserving since she did give one of the best supporting performances of the year. It was sure a bad year for the lead actress categories. Here's hoping David Carradine can pull it off. That was the best performance of the year, and I would love to see him get an Oscar nod if he wins here. He's like Johnny Depp in a way, in that he completely made a film that would normally not get noticed by the awards people.
Guest Loss Report post Posted December 13, 2004 KBV2 and Eternal Sunshine should own every category they're in. Let's hope it happens.
Guest Loss Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Might I also add that I'm disappointed at the fact that there are no Garden State noms.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 I was dissapointed Harry Potter didn't get anything. I mean I didn't expect it to but it had an 88% rating at RT and I was hoping it'd get something. I'm happy Kill Bill and Eternal Sunshine got nods even though Eternal Sunshine being labelled a comedy kind of pisses me off since it's so not.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Might I also add that I'm disappointed at the fact that there are no Garden State noms. Good. Garden State was really good but the last 15 minutes kind of killed it for me. I liked it but it wasn't a great movie or anything. I could see it getting a screenplay nod at the Oscars- I also hope Napoleon Dynamite gets something

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 It's great that Michael Chiklis got a nod, even if he probably will lose. It's also strange that Kiefer Sutherland and James Gandolfini got shut out.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA MICHAEL CHIKLIS THE SHIELD DENIS LEARY RESCUE ME JULIAN MCMAHON NIP/TUCK --------- Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! My 3 favorite shows are all on FX. They are turning into a great network. I am very very glad to see all three of these guys get the nods. Any one of them deserves it. And all three of the shows could have easily been up for best drama.

TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Has anyone here seen Million Dollar Baby? I've read some reviews and I'm surprised Eastwood didn't get nominated for acting(although he already has 3 noms for various stuff). Here's hoping Morgan Freeman finally wins something, god knows he deserves it(moreso than Carrey IMO).
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 I kind of don't get why Tarrantino movies get love, but he doesn't get much love for directing them. I consider TARRANTINO to be about 90% of the reason his movies come off with that "cool" feeling, and being different from everything else. I mean could imagine ANY OTHER director trying to tackle Kill Bill and having it come out so good?
Guest Evolution Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Desperate Housewives is very much in the wrong category, and it'll show when they and Lost lose the Comedy and Drama categories to Arrested Development and The Sopranos, respectively. That's my prediction.
