1234-5678 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 I'm sorry, the thread is supposed to be about movies that killed a movie career. Besides, Sheen is still in movies (Scary Movie 3).
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Damon doesn't have a dead career. He had a good run on Stand Up and has a good hit sitcom. A dead movie career though. I may have spoke too soon, there is a "Homey The Clown" movie set to start filming soon. That is $150 million waiting to happen.
godthedog 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 What about actors where a role permantly typecasted them and thus weren't able to get out of that role or get a different role? I can't think of any off the top of my head but I'm sure there are examples of them. the obvious one would be bela lugosi.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Raul Julia actually died from Street Fighter... :: Ducks Chair and Runs :: if we are going to be tasteless... Brandon Lee-The Crow I think it could actually be argued that had he lived, Julia's career wouldn't have. Whereas The Crow would've been the first step to a fairly long career for Brandon Lee. Scary thing about Tank Girl is that I rather enjoyed it, as it was totally over the top. Another funny thing is that it only killed Petty's career. Ice-T is doing pretty well on Law & Order: SVU, Naomi Watts broke out with The Ring, Malcolm McDowell is still a great character actor, and even creator Jamie Hewlett had some success in the UK with music group Gorillaz. Anyways... wasn't Chris Klein supposed to be the Next Big Thing?
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Tom Berenger's career seemed to die after The Substitute. Christopher Lloyd after Angels in the Endzone. Martin Short was sunk after he played a fairy godmother in a movie I had to look the title up for; A Simple Wish. Before that he had been on a pretty good streak with Captain Ron, Clifford, both Father of the Bride movies, and some animated films he lent his voice to. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Clifford is almost universally hated. Not by me, though.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 20, 2004 I like Clifford. I think it was one of Charles Grodin's best films, and Mary Steenburgen actually looked pretty good in it.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Heather Graham. After she did "Say It Ain't So" with Chris Klein, it was like she dropped off the face of the earth. She was in "From Hell" but her name was like a blip on the radar. I don't think she even got the top billing that Depp received.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Christopher Lloyd after Angels in the Endzone. He had a career after "Suburban Commando"?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Anyways... wasn't Chris Klein supposed to be the Next Big Thing? No that was Josh Hartnett.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 I like Clifford. I think it was one of Charles Grodin's best films, and Mary Steenburgen actually looked pretty good in it. I can count good Charles Grodin movies on one hand. There's something appealing about the guy though. It's like when 10 year olds play basketball and one of their dads plays, somewhat against his will, and he's out there in a Cosby sweater and tasselled loafers and still kicks all their asses. That's Charles Grodin's movie career.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 How is Sandra Bullock doing these days? Even Keanu Reeves was smart enough to avoid this.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Christopher Lloyd after Angels in the Endzone. He had a career after "Suburban Commando"? Maybe not much of a movie career, but he was an exec producer on Frasier, so I don't think he was exactly crying for work...
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Sandra Bullock is adorable. She's always done a mix of average to crap movies, I don't even think Speed 2 was the worst. That only killed her career if you say Speed 1 made her career, which... no, I don't think it did.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Christopher Lloyd after Angels in the Endzone. He had a career after "Suburban Commando"? Off the top of my head he did both Addams Family movies, Angels in the Outfield which was well recieved, and I believe Back to the Future 3 was after Suburban Commando. Lets go check at imdb.com After checking he did the third BttF a year before Suburban Commando and his career was pretty much over after Angels in the Outfield. He did nothing of significance after. He hasn't been in a real theater movie though since Angels in the Endzone.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Robin Shou. He was personable in "Mortal Kombat" but after doing "Beverly Hills Ninja" it seemed like he couldn't get any big screen time.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Robert Carradine. "Revenge of the Nerds" typecasted him for life. Anthony Edwards managed to do okay for himself post-nerdom I guess.

That only killed her career if you say Speed 1 made her career, which... no, I don't think it did. I believe The Net made her career and she's done well since Speed 2. Practical Magic, Devine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, both Miss Congeniality movies, and Murder by Numbers which wasn't too bad. Her career did look close to being over though with the triple threat of crap she did. Speed 2, Hope Floats, and Forces of Nature. Having Practical Magic released before Forces of Nature saved her ass. She did however share a film with Denis Leary which killed his movie career. That being Two if by Sea. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Miss Congeniality 2 isn't even out yet, is it? The first was actually really good, kinda snuck up on me. Leary's done well with voice work after Two If By Sea.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Chevy - Memoirs of an Invisible Man Am I the only one who liked that? No, I know a ton of people who love it, including myself. Agreed. I don't think any of us paid money to see it though. Chevy was killed by "Cops and Robbersons" and he wasn't helped by the beyond horrible "Vegas Vacation". I am beyond outraged that you would insult Vegas Vacation, one of my fav films. (and my fav vaction movie along with christmas one) Pick a number is what did it for me as well as "I won I won the money the money is mine I won" I guess not everyone likes dumb and sarcastic humor oh well
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Michael Keaton. Keaton pulled a Travolta. He helped deep six his name with "Multiplicity" but came back strong with "Jackie Brown" and that gave him some life again. Then Keaton did "Jack Frost" and it was like his big screen time was over for good. I thought "Desperate Measures" was good and felt he should have stuck with the bad guy motiff. Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Can we honestly say Kevin Costner's career is dead? It's not like he can't get work...but He hasn't had a hit in forever. His last big hit would have to be his last good movie "A Perfect World"...he was on a awesome run of movies (untouchables, Dreams, bull durham, dances, Perfect World) and some other modest hits and then he did WaterWorld and he never returned. It was flop after flop. He tried to revive himself with his old stand bys of Baseball and Western's with For Love of the Game which wasn't a hit and then Open Range which was good but wasn't a hit. Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Arnold Schwarzenegger. Check out this line-up courtesy of imdb: Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) Last Action Hero (1993) True Lies (1994) Junior (1994) Eraser (1996) Jingle All the Way (1996) Batman & Robin (1997) I'm surprised Schwarznegger could get people to come and see his movies after a string of hit and miss (crap) like that. Though, "Last Action Hero" bombed miserably at the box office in grand fashion. It was like the record holder for biggest bomb until "Cutthroat Island" was released. After doing TD, he effectively killed off his "badass" image that helped make his career. Talking for Arnold was one of the worst things he could have done once he felt the need to carry a movie's dialogue. Big mistake. At least in "Twins" he let Danny DeVito carry most of the speaking. Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 20, 2004 The difference is that Arnold does very well Internationally; so he's still a big draw.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Geena Davis. I think "Cutthroat Island" is the only thing that needs to be mentioned. Before this, Geena could carry a movie on her own (with a little help of course) but this turned her name into box office poison.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 20, 2004 I thought The Long Kiss Goodnight was a success...has she done nething since that? I know she did the archery deal for awhile.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 The difference is that Arnold does very well Internationally; so he's still a big draw. This is true. It use to be the other way around where he was a bigger draw in the US than in the foreign areas (who did not care for his slaughtering of fellow natives in his movies). That all changed with T2 when people all around the world became enamored with the special effects and grew to respect and like Arnie.
Sass 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 I thought The Long Kiss Goodnight was a success...has she done nething since that? I know she did the archery deal for awhile. "The Long Kiss Goodnight" came out like *right* after "Cutthroat Island" and it starred Samuel L. Jackson who was still a strong name to have in a movie after "Pulp Fiction" immortalized his badass brotha image. The movie was a success but Geena did not receive the same amount of pub that she had received for CI. She didn't do any other movies until "Stuart Little" came out in 1999 so 3 years had passed for her.
