It makes little to no sense musically and I think it's generally just WAY out there. Is it supposed to make any sense? If so, I would greatly appreciate someone helping me with it. Ding ding ding... exactly. I *hate* people that don't like to listen to certain types of music unless they are tripping. I have a friend like this who doesn't listen to Pink Floyd unless he's high. I think Wish You Were Here is more of an indictment of the music industry, though both, and The Wall for that matter, are heavily based on Syd Barrett. The Dark Side Of The Moon is a study on what causes insanity, with the conclusion that if you're not dead, you're crazy. Roger Waters and friends surveyed people hanging around the studios with questions about these matters (Paul McCartney was surveyed but his comments didn't make the cut) and placed them into the song. The causes of insanity that DSotM points to are wealth (Money), war (Us and Them), death (The Great Gig In The Sky), and time (Time), to name a few. I've heard people add avoiding problems for "On The Run" and drugs for "Any Colour You Like" but those aren't widely accepted. "Speak To Me" and "Breathe" serves as openings and "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" wrap things up. I don't know what you're talking about with long instrumentals and "then they just start singing." To me, everything is done just the way it should be. It is hardly "way out there." A lot of the music is really rather simple. But Money is in 7/4 time. w00t! The Wizard Of Oz synchronicity is not intentional. Bear in mind that there were no VCRs and CD players in 1973, so even if you were just watching it on TV, you'd have to flip the record over between "Great Gig In The Sky" and "Money" and then you'd lose your place. Obviously has some sort of cross-appeal to it, since it sold a bajillion copies. If anything, it's too obvious. The only ones that say you need it to enjoy the music are living idiot stereo types they've decided to live by. The only thing you need to enjoy Floyd is a sincere interest in the music, if you don't have it, no matter how high you are, you won't enjoy it sober of fucked up.
