Heller's daughter can't be evil, as she just tried to kill herself.

That doesn't prove anything. She could've knew the gas wouldn't be deadly, and did what she did to be sure she dispels any doubts about where she stands.

This episode was a "slowdown" from the breakneck pace of the the first four hours. We got another good scene between Heller and his daughter. We also see how President Keeler will NOT be an ally for Jack like Palmer was. Next week, the Araz family's storyline with Debbie seems to be ending (for now) and their role in the larger scheme is coming into focus.

Oh yeah, NEXT WEEK: JACK KICKS EVERYONE'S ASS

Spoilerific stuff concerning the last 6 hours of 24 courtesy Zap2It.com...

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) He may no longer be president, but David Palmer will be back on "24" this season as Los Angeles faces yet another terrorist crisis.

Dennis Haysbert, who played Palmer on the first three seasons of the FOX series, has signed on to a guest-starring arc this season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He's set to appear in the final six episodes of the season.

He was one of several regulars who didn't return for "24's" fourth season, which is set 18 months after the end of last year and has federal agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) chasing Islamic militants out to murder the secretary of defense (new cast member William Devane) and wreak other havoc on Los Angeles.

The show's back story is that Palmer chose not to run for re-election after the death of his estranged wife, Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald), last season. Geoff Pierson, who appeared in several episodes last season as Palmer's opponent, is now the president.

As with most things about "24," details of what Palmer's role will be within the show are being kept quiet.

Finally watched my tape from monday.

This is a classic "calm before the storm" episode. Next week's looks like a classic "Jack v. The World" episode.

Everything has been good so far. Nothing is making me fast-forward, although I'm sure that the CHOCOLATE TENSION at CTU will get old very, very quickly.

This season is awesome so far and it's hooked me in early as much as any season has. I really miss Tony, Palmer and Michelle (who's ridiculously beautiful) but I guess they really did need to change things up to keep the show from getting stale. My only problem so far is that there are just too many women at CTU. That probably sounds sexist but I'm missing the days of Jack, Tony, George Mason and Chapelle running things instead of a bunch of coniving dames. Other than that it's a great season with a great storyline so far though and it's continuing to intensify my massive man-crush on Jack Bauer.

Now, see how much more interesting the villainous family is now? The writers have made them a lot more complex, and I am much more satisfied than I was after the 4-hour premiere. Finally some opportunities to show off a little acting range for actors who are clearly thriving with it.

It's all too easy and straight forward...for 24. We seemingly know everything already and that's not like this show.

Honestly, not even the first season started out this hot. And the first 12 episodes of season 1 are stand-alone.

I think this season feels different because there's no plodding Palmer stuff. Don't get me wrong, Palmer is one of the strongest characters in the show's history (third behind Jack and Nina), but the Palmer thing never really got good until the end of the season.

Now, the only slow parts are at CTU, which is never slow. Jack has been absolutely tremendous so far, and the rest of the cast has been excellent. I was kind of apprehensive before this season, but if this is going to keep up...well. This could give season 1 a run for its money as the best season thus far.

Behrus was the man tonight.

I hope next week he kicks down the damn door and puts a round in his father's forehead. I know that would never happen, but I was thrilled when he throttled that guy with the shovel about 5 more times than necessary.
