Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Wilco, at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL, on 02/15/05 Slint, at the Metro in Chicago, Illinois, on 03/26/05 I wish there were more, but those two make up for the lack of worthwhile shows.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 Oh, post some you guys are looking forward to, I guess.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 Edwin will mention the Arcade Fire. He even keeps a countdown in his AIM profile.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 The Arcade Fire, at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C., January 30. And, hopefully: The Wrens, at the Black Cat in Washington D.C., February 10. The University of Virginia's annual Fest Full of Rock should also be coming up in the next few weeks. It's usually a good collection for $10; last year, I saw the Unicorns, Rjd2, and Pretty Girls Make Graves (who are lame, but do an all right live show).
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I was typing my post before you posted that. I'm so predictable.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 I heard a rumor the Unicorns broke up. I hope it's true!
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I'm still waiting for their rap album.
Henry Spencer Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I'm probably seeing Modest Mouse sometime in February.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 You know, I've been listening to Modest Mouse for about 4 years, and I've never had a chance to see them live. The time they went through Virginia and the Carolinas, I was in Florida. The time they did a bizarre tour with 8 stops within 3 hours of my house, I was up at school. Damnable hell.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 Last night, I stole the remastered copy of The Moon and Antarctica from a Wal Mart supercenter. My opinion on the album hasn't changed within the past however-many-years I last heard it.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I'm going to tell Agent to give your address to the cops. Should have stolen Building Nothing Out of Something, though they probably didn't have it.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 I was at a CD Warehouse earlier in the day and almost bought that very album! However, the girl behind the counter was playing Modest Mouse in the store, and I didn't want to talk to her.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 5'9" and 160, I bet. What a porker.
Myxamatosis Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 Interpol and Blone Redhead in Lawrence, KS. Modest Mouse in Omaha. Should be solid.
Henry Spencer Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Interpol and Blone Redhead in Lawrence, KS. Wait a tick, when is this? I had heard nothing about it.
5_moves_of_doom Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I had tickets to see Wilco, but well... that fell through. Anyway, Modest Mouse, Slint, and the Arcade Fire, hopefully. I was thinking of buying Slint tickets today, as I love them and everything... but it occurred to me that I had never heard ANYTHING about their live show. Are they even any good? Anyway, I'll probably buy the tickets tonight either way.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Inca and Edwin, what are your thoughts on Dream Theater?
Hank Kingsley Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I am neither Inca nor Edwin but have a spot in my heart for Dream Theater. A Change of Seasons is incredible, as is Home (and pretty much all of Metropolis Pt. 2, for that matter). Their new CD Train of Thought is pretty good, especially the instrumental Stream of Consciousness and This Dying Soul. I'd love to see them in concert. Their new live CD looks tempting.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I have heard probably about 20 minutes of Dream Theater in my life, and they're up there with Rush on the list of bands that don't interest me whatsoever. For the most part, they're exactly the kind of music I hate. "Wanky" sums up my thoughts, I guess.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 For those that have never heard Dream Theater they sound nothing like RUSH. Especially in the area of vocals. I just wanted to get that out of the way. Reason I asked was while I know the genre is not your cup of tea I thought their stuff may have broken the mold of traditional progressive metal enough where it could catch your attention. And Supes, I too would love to see them in concert. They were an opening act for Iced Earth in the summer of 03 I believe...could have been just this past summer too. Tickets were sold out within 35min. I was quite pissed.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted January 12, 2005 Author Report Posted January 12, 2005 I was thinking of buying Slint tickets today, as I love them and everything... but it occurred to me that I had never heard ANYTHING about their live show. Are they even any good? Anyway, I'll probably buy the tickets tonight either way. I have some live mp3s of them, circa '89. Sound quality is kinda poor, but, from what I can tell, they sound like they do on record.
Myxamatosis Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Interpol and Blone Redhead in Lawrence, KS. Wait a tick, when is this? I had heard nothing about it. Yeah, it's on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Blone Redhead will be opening for them on a couple of dates. This happens to be one of them. I expect nothing by abstract goodness from both.

Sound quality is kinda poor, but, from what I can tell, they sound like they do on record. Well, that's good enough for me. Tickets purchased. Let's hope they don't dissapoint.
NoCalMike Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Unearth in February. Strapping Young Lad in the spring.
Dr. Zoidberg Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Moving Units on the 20th Elephant on the 22nd. AWESOME!!
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Nile in Feb, Cryptopsy in March.
The Czech Republic Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I have heard probably about 20 minutes of Dream Theater in my life, and they're up there with Rush on the list of bands that don't interest me whatsoever. For the most part, they're exactly the kind of music I hate. "Wanky" sums up my thoughts, I guess. It doesn't have a good beat, and you can't dance to it.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Absolutely. Justin Timberlake > Dream Theater
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Dream Theater is so awful.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 ^ True Bloc Party in March. Fucking A.
