Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 13, 2005 The fans don't either but that's never stopped Fox. Seriously, they have the worst sports announcing crews in the world.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I don't remember who brought this up, but the hypocrisy here is off the charts considering Buck did those "Leon" commericals shilling Budweiser. I was watching the game at a bar and thus didn't hear the commentary, but he's got a lot of nerve coming down on Moss when he was a part of marketing that type of display. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Joe Buck: "What a disgusting display by Moss last week, that was the most sickening thing I ever saw. BTW, stayed tuned for the new season of Fox's hit show "The Simple Life""
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 13, 2005 For me, the football announcing food chain goes like this: Michaels/Madden > Fox's crew > CBS' crew > ESPN's crew.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I like the CBS crew, but FOX draws me in with its fancy colours. That and I generally care more about the NFC. Michaels & Madden can't be beat.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I'd take Helen Keller and Marcel Marceau over the ESPN Sunday Night crew. Oh, and Buck has just been trained by FCC sensitive producers to jump all over that kind of an incident. It would have been the same with Al Michaels or any other broadcaster, in my opinion. It was someone on Around the Horn, but I can't think of which guy. Joe Buck is only good at baseball games.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Is it wrong for me as an Eagle fan to actually like Troy Aikman's commentary? Because he's probably the best out of the Fox A-team. And I think Daryl Johnston is good too. Ugh I feel so dirty saying that. Theismann is like the Bill Walton of the NFL: Proof that you can play the game for a long time and still not know what the fuck you're talking about.
MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 The CBS Phil Simms and Jim Nance announce team is the best IMO

It would have been the same with Al Michaels or any other broadcaster, in my opinion. THANK YOU for bringing that up MIB I thought I was the only one on the planet who understood that. Buck going off on Moss was something he HAD to do cause it wouldnt look good to the NFL suits if he didnt. Any announcer put in that position would do the same thing I guarantee you. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 CBS has horrible announcers. Nantz never shuts up, and Simms is a pollyanna. Hated Deidorf since MNF.

Whatever, I still don't get why this is even a big deal, FCC or not. Claiming that Buck had to bash Moss because of pressure from the NFL and the FCC is bullshit, and a total cop-out. What if he didn't, they would have had him fired? Give me a break.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 If I'm not going to bitch about what Moss did, then Buck can say whatever he wants to. The Vikings are just using this to bring the team together, the "everybody's against us" mantra.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 They've all but said that. This is not old hat for fans in MN. Many truely believe there's a conspiracy against the local sports teams. In fact, many insisted Jack Buck hated the Twins back in the 1991 World Series.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Can someone explain the hate for the ESPN crew? I really like them to be honest... Fox is by far the worst. MNF is almost unwatchable because of Madden.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Can someone explain the hate for the ESPN crew? I really like them to be honest... Ridiculously fawning praise for everyone on the field, bordering on verbal fellatio in many cases, particularly for Mike "Barry Sanders" Vick.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 What's wrong with hyping up some players? That's part of their job if you ask the NFL. I just find them entertaining much more than the other crews. I do like a few of the CBS pairs alot too. Fox crews are ALL terrible.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 The best announce crew in the NFL is the mute button on my control. None of the crews are worth a damn. Madden used to be good, but I gave up on him when he said, "It's very important to score points if you want to win" and of course, "It's a lot harder to come back from 21-7 than 14-7". Thanks John! nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Can someone explain the hate for the ESPN crew? I really like them to be honest... Ridiculously fawning praise for everyone on the field, bordering on verbal fellatio in many cases, particularly for Mike "Barry Sanders" Vick. Their non-stop fellatio doesn't bother me as much as their inability to actually add anything while calling a game. They're supposed to give INSIGHT into what's going on, not just remind a viewer to watch. For example, say they're showing a replay of a big sack. Instead of showing who missed their block or pin-pointing why the DE got through so quickly, McGuire will just say "Look at this play". Dickhead, I'm already watching the game, and thus will be watching the play regardless if you tell me to or not. Madden, for all his stupid comments, at least still breaks down plays. Of course, having said that, wasn't it Madden that said that a field goal was every bit as good as a touchdown sometimes?

Yeah, my favorite is Paul McGuire saying something like "Look at this play! Watch how fast he throws this ball! I've never seen anyone throw a ball that hard!" as Vick overthrows Alge Crumpler by 10 yards.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Madden is completely useless. Talking about linemen's buttsweat is rather unnecessary. Micheals is equally useless. I don't mind Thiesman really. He's usually just a dipshit, but occasionally he does bust out something that I didn't see the first time. Not often but yeah. I don't mind Aikman, and I agree with MJ23, Nance/Simms is, sadly, the best team out there.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Of course, having said that, wasn't it Madden that said that a field goal was every bit as good as a touchdown sometimes? Yes, but that was actually good insight. He just meant as long as you are putting points on the board, sometimes a field goal is just as good as the touchdown. All the time? No, then you just can't make the drives count as much as they should.

Claiming that Buck had to bash Moss because of pressure from the NFL and the FCC is bullshit, and a total cop-out. What if he didn't, they would have had him fired? Give me a break. You have to understand that the NFL is a massive stuffy corporate entity, that is very prudish in the way it does business (in some ways). I am an unabashed fan of Joe Buck and think he is one of the 5 best play-by-play guys in sports bar-none. I have NEVER seen him go on a moral high horse prior to the Moss incident. At any rate, if he were to make light of the situation which may have been his first intuition, would he be fired for this week's game? Probably not. However, he would have made enemies in the league office and may have gotten demoted next year. The NFL only wants certain types that will make the league look good broadcasting in its premier spots. Buck not going off on the Moss mooning would have pissed the higher-ups off to no end. I'm not saying I agree but it is (in my opinion), the reality of the situation. No, then you just can't make the drives count as much as they should. Well, wouldn't it still make more sense to say a field goal is ALMOST as good as a touchdown, rather than as good? I understand that it's good to put points on the board, but unless you're losing by 2 with seconds to play or the game is in overtime, it's always better to put 7 on the board than 3.
