bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 You missed me swearing up a blue streak when I saw Don Cheadle's face on TV and realised Carrey got snubbed AGAIN. Closer was another snub for best adapted screenplay. Oh and Ray getting nods for Best Picture and Best Director is complete and utter bullshit
Ripper 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 You missed me swearing up a blue streak when I saw Don Cheadle's face on TV and realised Carrey got snubbed AGAIN. Closer was another snub for best adapted screenplay. Oh and Ray getting nods for Best Picture and Best Director is complete and utter bullshit Whats wrong with Ray for best picture. I don't know about Screenplay. And Cheadle deserved that nod. Its just the fact that Clint doing the grizzled old guy thing got him ANOTHER nod when it should have been Carrey. DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 What about Paul Giamatti, I thought he was like the only other gaurentee besides Foxx? It's a "Man on the Moon" conspiracy!
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Lemme get this straight Paul Giamatti and Jim Carrey: NO! SCREW YOU BOTH AGAIN! Clint Eastwood: WE LOVE YOU CLINT! And "Ray" was very much like "Man on the Moon". Take out the lead actor and the film isn't even tolerable. I hope Jamie Foxx wins twice. Better yet, I hope he doesn't win JUST so the Academy can prove themselves to be completely and utterly worthless.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Because the movie wasn't that good. It was way too long and a lot of the non-music scenes were very boring. After the 2 hr mark I began wondering if this was a 5 hour movie. Jamie Foxx was amazing and he totally deserves to win but one great performance does not make a great movie and certainly not one of the best films of the year. I thought Clint was great in Million Dollar Baby- I would've put Carrey ahead of DiCaprio
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I hope Jamie Foxx wins twice. Better yet, I hope he doesn't win JUST so the Academy can prove themselves to be completely and utterly worthless. Jamie Foxx shouldn't have gotten a nod for Collateral since he wasn't the supporting actor. He's in the film more then Cruise- he's the lead actor. Also Cruise was the better actor in the movie anyway
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I'm just glad Michael Moore didn't get a nomination. I hope his ego is hurt.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Leo was assured the Oscar this year. I'm absolutely STUNNED that Paul Giamatti got screwed, there is no excuse for that. Carrey getting snubbed isn't a shock, we all saw it coming. And Jim needs to realize that he'll never get an Oscar nomination until extremely late in his career. He is the Susan Lucci of Nominations.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 And "Ray" was very much like "Man on the Moon". Take out the lead actor and the film isn't even tolerable. Except for BOOGER, and Regina King, and Sharron Warren's fantastic debut performance as Ray's mother, and the music, "Ray" is much more than just "ooooh Jamie Foxx gave such a great performance" And Bullshit David Carridine getting no nomination for "Kill Bill Vol2", Foxx didn't need the 2nd nomination (nor Alda, he was good but it was a one note performance)
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I think Jim knows he's never getting a nomination even though I could see him getting an apology nomination later in his career. The best acting category was really strong this year- it was the actress one that was weak. Alan Alda getting a nomination was a well deserve surprise- he MADE the Aviator. And CBright- everyone knew Moore wasn't getting a nod
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Except for BOOGER, and Regina King, and Sharron Warren's fantastic debut performance as Ray's mother, and the music, "Ray" is much more than just "ooooh Jamie Foxx gave such a great performance" Regina King was alright- I didn't get any of the Oscar buzz around here either. The scenes where they flashed back to Ray's childhood were terrible- I hated them. They came off as so hokey. I thought Ray was pretty good- but because of the music and Jamie Foxx. Certainly doesn't deserve a Best Picture nod
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I love the fact that 3 of the best pictures have "nominees to be determined" in reference to who gets credited as producer come Oscar Night. I read an article about this in the New York Times, the Academy is limiting the number of recognizable producers to 3.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 The Aviator is really getting the "Give Martin his Oscar" nominations cause it really wasn't that great of a film. It was good but it just didn't say "Best Picture" when I saw it. And "Ray" was average at best, Jamie made that film into something. It was poorly paced and was not one of the best films of the year. Hell, as much as I hate to say it, I'd have put "Closer" ahead of "Ray". And I hated "Closer" with a passion. Glad for Alda though, he really did save Martin's film from being just average at best. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Thomas Haden Church seems more upset that Paul didn't get nominated then that he got nominated. It's sad he was snubbed for his amazing one scene in Spanglish
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Alan Alda getting a nomination was a well deserve surprise- he MADE the Aviator. No more than Alec Baldwin I thought And at least Giamatti won't have to relieve the agony of the Globes, knowing that Foxx is gonna win. Think Rock will live up to his threat if Foxx doesn't win? DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 It's sad he was snubbed for his amazing one scene in Spanglish Who Church or Giamatti?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Hell yes Rock will. Everyone and their mother agrees the best performance was Foxx. There would be no excuse for Foxx not to win the Oscar. And if Leo gets it, Rock will snap. Which is why if they move the Best Actor award to the final one of the night...I'll get a bad feeling.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 so basically Carrey should say fuck it and go ahead and roll out Ace Ventura 3?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 There is one thing you can officially, 100% without a doubt now say. The Academy views Comedy Actors as the red headed step-child of the film industry.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Looks like Spider-man 2 is going to win Best Visual Effects. I'm wickedly biased but Harry Potter deserves it- if only for the Dementors. And no 'Someone's Watching Over Me' for best song? Michael Gondry, Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Nichols, hell almost anyone, would've been a better pick for Best Director then Taylor Hackford
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 so basically Carrey should say fuck it and go ahead and roll out Ace Ventura 3? Well considering how good Ace Ventura 2 was... Carrey has the comedy Fun with Dick and Jane coming out in the summer and then it's his revival of the 6 Million Dollar Man. He's getting a lifetime achievement award or an Oscar for some weepy tearjerker when he's 60-
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Hate to say it, but knowing Jim's luck he'd die before he found out he was getting the nomination. He has given THREE amazing performances and everytime the Academy has told him "not good enough Mr. Carrey...TRY HARDER!!" And Paul Giamatti has now given back to back mind blowing performances, probably the second best performance of 2004 behind Foxx, and he gets the snub. If Robin Williams gets to present, he should unload. Robin has a tremendous amount of respect for Paul and Jim and them getting snubbed along with Bill losing in the most depressing fashion last year must not sit well. Someone has got to stand up and tell the Academy off. Robin has his Oscars so he shouldn't care.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Bill Murray didn't deserve to win last year- that's the thing. Sean Penn and Jude Law both blew him away. Chris Rock is the host- maybe he'll say something about Jim getting snubbed...again
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Speaking of which, what the HELL was the Academy thinking getting Rock to host? Chris Rock....the censors are going to need to work overtime on this one. And I said Bill's losing was depressing...he looked like he was going to hang himself after the show. And I agree, Sean Penn was better but Jude Law is the most overrated actor of our time imho.
