strummer 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 Among a flurry of comedy pilot pickups Tuesday, NBC and ABC gave the green light to vehicles starring "Saturday Night Live" writer Tina Fey and former cast member Chris Kattan along with "Beverly Hills, 90210" star Tori Spelling, and the WB Network gave the thumbs up to a one-hour to be directed by Shawn Levy. NBC has ordered two comedy pilots from "SNL" writers -- head writer Fey and Paula Pell, both hailing from NBC Universal TV and "SNL" exec producer Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video TV production company. The untitled Fey project will star Fey as the head writer of a "SNL"-like variety show, focusing on her efforts to control a volatile star and executive producer. The single-camera pilot, written by Fey and exec produced by Fey, Michaels, JoAnn Alfano and Fey's manager David Miner, will be filmed in the summer after "SNL" wraps its current season. The untitled Paula Pell project, written by Pell, centers on a formerly fat woman who struggles as she grows into her new skin while surrounded by her still-overweight family and friends. Pell is exec producing the pilot with Michaels and Alfano. Credit: HollyWood Reporter Could this mean the Tina era is over on SNL?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 She's had the sitcom deal for a while- NBC finally gave her the okay to film a pilot. Having the pilot being shot in the summer is kind of odd since they won't know what they got for when they do the fall lineup in May. Could this be a midseason replacement? Perhaps but they usually announce those in May as well. I also think it's hilarious that Tina is all on the single camera bandwagon now. It's probably so she can still think she's hip and that doing single camera with no laugh track will probably make her sound funnier- when it really won't. If this gets her off of the show then I'm all for it. I just don't understand why they'd shoot a pilot in June
strummer 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 Didn't know Tina had the deal for that along already. But, I mean seriously how the hell does Paula Pell get a deal? UGH, her pilot sounds terrible. Lorne's playing politics here I think. Maybe Seth and Amy on Update next season?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 Judging by the fact that she's a former fat woman- Pell won't be starring. She's been working for SNL for a long time- so she deserves it. I wouldn't mind Seth and Amy but she needs to go far far away

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 Don't you like Tina Bob? I used to until she decided to destroy Weekend Update by bringing on Amy Poehler as co-anchor. She's also been awful this season with her stale as hell Bush jokes and she was even reduced to ripping off the Daily Show a few weeks ago. She's getting paid $100,000 for show and she's earning that money by pissing all over the legacy of my favourite part of the show. She can go fuck herself for all I care. Special K 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 Jesus Christ, dude. Chill. And she wrote Mean Girls. That was funny.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 Jesus Christ, dude. Chill. And she wrote Mean Girls. That was funny. I love Mean Girls, don't get me wrong. It's the film I saw the most in the theatres out of any other and I ranked it #4 in my list of movies of 2004. I loved Tina until this season when she picked Amy to sit at the desk with her and ended up killing Update in the process by playing with Barbie's and singing stupid songs and basicall making me miss Jimmy on WU more then I ever thought I would. It's a shame that she picked friendship and good media press over quality- she wound up killing Update in the process
Special K 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 You may have a valid point, but I don't think it's enough to froth over. WU has seen worse. I mean, I think Fallon was unfunny in everything BUT WU, but I'm not gonna get my titties in a twist over it. I realize you take SNL seriously, though, seeing as you've been going for however many years.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 You guys all ignored the worst thing about that article ... the return of Chris Kattan to national TV. Ugh.

It was the segment that made me an obsessive fan of SNL and it used to always be my favourite part of the show and the thing I looked forward to all week. I consider Weekend Update to be my baby and it's something I obsess over week after week. And watching Tina, someone who I used to love and admire, and Amy, someone who I like a lot in skits, just completely crap all over Weekend Update really upsets me and makes me angry. I may be completely obsessed with SNL and Weekend Update but hey- at least I'm upfront about it.

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted February 3, 2005 I used wrestling lingo? I didn't even notice that well with the stars for sketches and terms like "her act has gotten stale". I stopped reading after that one so I culd make this post.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2005 I said her Bush jokes had become stale- I don't see how that's using wrestling lingo. I don't see how giving star ratings for something is associated with wrestling. People give star ratings for movies and television shows as well, I don't think that's using wrestling lingo. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 What arguing? I'm not arguing with anyone- I'm just telling people why I don't like Tina (you know- the subject of the thread) and explaining to people why I take Weekend Update way seriously. If you don't feel it's worthy of being discussed- don't post in the thread

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 I couldn't agree with barron anymore than I do right now. Not necessarily about SNL (I haven't watched the show in years) but about being unnecessarily attacked. Saying something has gotten stale is not wrestling lingo. Giving something star ratings - while it is pretty lame - is not wrestling lingo. And responding to someone's question is not a bad thing, even if it has been done before. Wait until someone uses real wrestling lingo before bashing them for doing so (e.g. "Did you hear that promo that Freddie Mitchell did with Michael Irvin?" when it's an interview, not a promo). JasonX 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2005 I wouldn't mind Seth and Amy but she needs to go far far away Seth is a total and complete lost cause that should be jetisoned from SNL as soon as humanly possible. Better to put Will Forte/Chris Parnell in the slot or take a chance on one of the featured players (IE Keenan Thompson or Rob Riggle).
