Playstation2 woes...

Recommended Posts

Anyways, my PS2 woes have officially come to an end. This afternoon, I traded in my 5 yr old, broken down, not-functioning PS2 for a brand new SLIM-JIM model!

Curiously, where did you trade it in, and how much did you get for it towards the new model?

I brought it over to EB Games and they gave me $90 for it towards the new one.

Get an Xbox. Not only has mine never failed me, but apparently they're also bulletproof.

I'd rather take the bullet than buy an X-BOX.

Then you don't deserve help.

Clearly.

If only Xbox had a larger game library, I don't think the console wars would have been even close. Such a better system in every aspect.

IT'S FUCKIN BULLETPROOF MAN!

The games on X-Box are anything but easy too. I'm still playing the first Splinter Cell, although I think I'm near completing it.

Ok guys, new problem.

My PS2 will no longer turn on, as in there is absolutely no power going to the machine at all, even though it is plugged into a working outlet, and I haven't blown a fuse or anything (the television is plugged into the same outlet and it is on). Any ideas?

That's what I was going to ask. My father thought his PS2 was broken because there was no power getting to it and the problem was the cord wasn't completely hooked into the machine.

Sometimes its the simplest things.

Not to be insulting, but are you sure the switch in the back is on?

I immediately checked the cord and the switch, so no, that isn't the problem. The plugs that power up the drive came out. My father is trying to fix it now, and not being very successful.

Except for the game library, the fact that next to no good Japanese developers make games for it, the oversized and poorly-designed controller(s), the necessity of buying a kit to play DVDs, online play costs extra, and it lacks that huge PS1 library, the X-Box is a lot better. :P

Sony sucks, but there's too damn many great games that companies make for their shitty hardware.

If not for the Halos, the XB would have been fucked unless they'd had gotten the GTAs.

I think Splinter Cell is great and that's an X-Box exclusive, right?

Not to mention KOTOR(and if they fix the bugs in KOTOR II before its Platinum release)

Nice. I'm surprised that EBGames gave out that much credit...

I don't count the PC as a videogame system, unless of course that's what the person specifically designs theirs to do and nothing more.

I don't know why, but I find it funny that your FATHER has a PS2.

My father has a PS2 and an X-Box. He's big into RPGs...only games he plays. It all started though when I got an NES the Christmas it came out. My father found Legend of Zelda, gave it a shot and from there it was no longer my Nintendo.

I have had my ps2 since december 2002 (its a SPCH 3001 model). I have had no such probelems as of yet, but do notice that some games make the system make a lot of noise (epsecially sd vs raw and sdhctp as well as nay sports games with lots of commentary on it) but its been over a year and I have had no problems.

I am nervous now reading this, considering I have been using it as a dvd player as well and as of late have spent more time playing dvds on it than games (the last game I bought was GTA:SA)

I agree about the porr ventilation thing. I just unplugged my system the other day to clean it out. well I basically just wiped off the top and siodes and there was a ton of dust on the fan and in the fan but I didnt blow on it, knowing that would prbably cause more probms. am I heading for disaster soon If I dont open it up to clean?

actually I should say that it was dusty only because I used to leave my ps2 uncovered, but over a year ago I started to cover it up with a towel when not in use to avoid dust getting on it

boy I hope it lasts until the ps3 comes out

the new ps2s would make me nervous considering how small and breakable they look.

how is it that the older gen systems could work for years and the new ones break quite easily?

Don't bother cleaning it until the Disc Read Errors become a problem. As for the actual life of the system, since you have been okay to this point, you should be okay for awhile.

It depends on the system. The original NES was pretty brittle too. And these days it is mainly with Sony. You could probably play football with a GameCube and then play it later. The PS1 had some problems, but not nearly as many as the PS2.

I was having dre and Sony just fixed my PS2 free of charge. The only thing I had to pay for was shipping and handling to Sony.

How much was that, though?

My PS2 squeaks as it is reading the disc. Meaning that during my games of nine inning baseball, all I hear is:

squeaksqueaksqueakSQUEAKSQUEAKsqueaksqueak...etc.etc.

Not good times.

I've had my PS2 since June 2002 and it's been working fine. The only problem I've had is with FF Tactics for the PS1 (but that's because of some small scratches on the disc -- not the system). I've played DVDs non-stop since I've gotten it and I'm glad I have no problems.

Nintendo (except for the original NES) and Sega (except for the Nomad) usually made systems that could stand up to the abuse (particularly the Gamecube, the GBs and GBA, and the Genesis)

I believe the design of the PS1 versus the PS2 also played a factor.

About Splinter Cell:

The SC games on PS2 generally don't look as well, and have the difficulty toned down. (More health, ammo, etc). Not to mention some of the levels are cut down, or parts are trimmed out entirely.

Stick with the Xbox versions.
