Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Well that was really nowhere near as good as all the hype and posts of endless "hahahaha" made it out to be. Somebody thought a commercial that was all but 15 seconds of an HHH promo would make people buy the show. Sad.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Of course it is being made to make you want to buy the show. That's what a commercial is Me thinks Tawren has never watched half time Super Bowl commercials. Half the time you don't even know what product is being shilled. They're made to get people talking. Guest Desperate Housewife Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Oh, and Wall Street, with you know who Snitsky? Bradshaw, maybe with Vince playing the Martin Sheen Role. Dunno who'd be Charlie. Also, an 8Mile skit can't be too far off for Cena, can it? Well that was really nowhere near as good as all the hype and posts of endless "hahahaha" made it out to be Triple H fell off a horse - it's funny
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Nice to see Tawren COMPLETELY missing the point. The commercials are just like the Summerslam olympic ones. Or every Rumble one for the past few years. Fun. You know, what entertainment programs are supposed to be. You're not supposed to think 'wow, there's re-enacting the civil war in a wrestling ring, I want to buy the show'. Then why does it end with "WrestleMania 21" and the date of the show? Why not just do the spoof. IT'S A COMMERCIAL FOR WRESTLEMANIA. Of course it is being made to make you want to buy the show. That's what a commercial is. It's a spoof, based on the fact that it's Wrestlemania in Hollywood. If they just did the spoof, people would wonder what the hell was going on. It's no more or less of a 'commercial' than the HOF announcement, or having the banner hanging from the ceiling. They do something...then they shill Mania. What are they supposed to do with the commercials exactly? Sell it on an un-confirmed Batista/HHH match? Or the un-confirmed Smackdown match? Unconfirmed HBK/Angle? The uncompleted HOF line-up? "Wrestlemania 21...The Rock might be there, so buy buy buy!" Yeah! If they can't come up with something better and one that relates to pro wrestling, they have to do lame movie spoofs! They have to make wrestling look unfunny and even more fake! That's the best they can do! And YOU HAVE TO LIKE IT! omg they're exposing the business! It's a commercial for Wrestlemania, in 2005...not Starrcade 85. What do you suggest then, more Wrestlemania recalls? It's Wrestlemania in Hollywood. That's what they've been shilling ever since they announced the sight. Wrestlemania going Hollywood. I'm not sure exactly what you're expecting from the commercials, seeing as again, there's no card...except to shill the Hollywood aspect again. Because THAT'S ALL THEY'VE CONFIRMED! Oh, they could remind us that Benoit won the title last year. Or that Hogan slammed Andre at WM 3. They could do the same flashback style video they always do. Something that people would just glaze over watching because they've seen it all before. Aren't the point of commercials to grab the viewers attention? To stand out? It's supposed to be something fun. To laugh at. And to play off the Hollywood theme. Not everything has to be completely focused on profits and workrate and buyrates, contrary to popular belief. If it isn't focused on buyrates, why are they even doing commercials? Why not just not do it? They're not selling the PPV on these commercials. They're not going to affect the buyrate. There's still 2 months to go. These are EARLY commercials to create interest, not to sell the show. That's the point you're missing. And besides...what's more memorable, an advert with Big Show talking in a Cage, or an advert with HHH as Braveheart riding a donkey? If they are going for memorability, why not do HHH flying through space with a laser show behind him as big dragons jump up and down and hot chicks get naked and masturbate each other on top of giant seizure robots? That's memorable, dammit, so it has to be great! Because it has nothing to do with Wrestlemania or Hollywood. Why I'm giving a serious answer to such a childish responce I don't know. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 But the people who would "be talking" are wrestling fans who already would be talking. Anyone else wouldn't really get it, or care. This is just the WWE jacking off so they can have a special feature on making the ads and talk about how they're not wrestling but, rather, they make movies. Edit: I have been enjoying them, though. They just don't serve a purpose other than the above.

NYU 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Tawren is looking absolutely ridiculous in this thread. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull off a Titanic spoof. Lita could be floating around on a piece of drywood in the ocean as Kane clings to hang on. She'll begin crying about never letting go but, sure enough, she does. Kane begins sinking into the water as Lita looks on and sobs. But dramatically, he'll shoot his hand up out of the water and fire pyro will go off around the two of them. There's so much they can do with this "WrestleMania in Hollywood" theme and, for the most part, I'm actually enjoying it so far. Even if they don't necessarily hype up a card that hasn't been made, or an event that doesn't even need any hyping up at this point anyway.

Somebody thought a commercial that was all but 15 seconds of an HHH promo would make people buy the show. Sad. Exactly. Hopefully they release one 'serious' commercial before the show, or at least during the opening package. If I were a casual fan i'd find the commercials amusing, but I wouldn't be hyped into buying the show.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 For the people whinning and moaning about "oh its not serious, people won't like this", can you shut up? I mean God forbid they actually do something entertaining and fun commercial that I'll actually remember. Instead of just throwing around the serious old commercials that I don't even recall. Plus, its in Hollywood. They've successfully tied the commerical with where its gonna be held. I mean, sure I would like serious commercials as well, but these funny ones are just as great as well. Also, HHH really did look like a natural doing that Braveheart spoof. This is forcing me to actually admit "hey, if he had a leading role in a movie, I'd tempt myself to watch it." Guest JRE Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Oh please....so many people see these serious wrestling commercials and just laugh 'em off with the usual wrestling is fake stuff. There is nothing wrong with drawing people to wrestling with humor. Half the f-ing ads on TV are just trying to be funny. This isn't that far fetched. There is nothing wrong with drawing people to wrestling with humor. Half the f-ing ads on TV are just trying to be funny. This isn't that far fetched. But the main point remains: people are going to plunk down $50 (for WM, $40 for non-WM's) for a PPV (and, if you're talking non-fans, a PPV for something you don't even watch) based on seeing a funny commercial? Seeing a serious wrestling commercial or seeing a funny wrestling commercial isn't going to matter to people who already view the product as a joke. You can't compare it to other companies using funny ads, because they're just going for name recognition. Most people already know about the WWE, so if they're not already watching, the commercials aren't going to matter. These commercials are really only playing to the existing fanbase, not to non-fans. If you want to make that argument (giving your loyal fans a laugh), that'd be fine. But these commercials aren't going to draw in an appreciable number of new fans. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Considering the fact that the WRESTLEMANIA name alone sells the PPV about as well as any given match, the ads are just supposed to let people know that its coming up and what the date is.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Show in Godzilla. Or as King Kong with Torrie. See, now I wish we had Lesnar again. That stupid monkey-like HappyDance he did on the ramp was why I always called him Donkey Kong. My complaints isn't that they're trying for humor instead of that overdramatic "performance of the Gods" routine they've done for about four years now. My complaint is that the humor wasn't funny. I liked the Rumble ad, because it was funny.
