The OAO SmackDown! Thread for 2/10/05

OMG..

I had a flashback to Stan Hansen (when he was in the mens locker room with his boxers and cowboy hat on and Missy Hyatt went back there for an interview) there for a second.. He just needs a wad of chewing tobacco, a rope and a bigger gut.

BY GAWD IT WAS A SETUP!

How about that Angle/Misterio match? I thought it was pretty amazing, personally. Hopefully they get serious about making Misterio a main eventer sooner, rather than later.

Angle/Misterio was good, as was Funaki/Chavo, and I expect Akio/London to be a good match too, but JBL makes even the worst show entertaining, and that was what I was getting at.

I thought it was a better show than RAW to be honest.

I'm kind of feeling the Mysterio love as well...I've always liked that guy...which leads me to a some questions:

1. Could he honestly EVER be considered a WWE Championship or AT LEAST a US Championship contender?

2. If so, how could it be made feasible for someone to job the title to him without that person looking bad in the process (obviously UT losing a title to Mysterio, for example, would really hurt the appearnce of the character of UT)?

3. Would he draw? The guy has always been over, and lately he's been HEALTHY...hell nobody actually DRAWS these days so would it make a difference?

4. How long a reign would you give him? Obviously not a long one, but perhaps a S.Series to Royal Rumble type run?

5. How could you make the obvious mismatches with opponents lead to a believable outcome? Is every win a fluke because of a mistake on his opponent's part or sheer luck he was able to capitalize on? Who would you program him with? Mostly smaller guys like Angle, Cena and Eddie, maybe even Booker T? Would you risk a match against UT or Big Show without worrying about the fans crapping on the absurdity of him actually beating those guys?

If it wasn't for the spoilers on the internet and knowing the ins and outs of wrestling and it's politics, if I was purely a mark, there were several times last night I would have sworn Mysterio was going to win that thing...

More people around these parts need to watch Smackdown as it is hands down better than Raw.

Rey/Angle was great. Angle's continuous attempts to reel in Rey and Rey reversing played so well into the finish of Angle finally clamping down with the heel hook after the reversals was far smarter than Angle usually works. Rey is probably my favorite WWE wrestler right now - his huge ass splash to the outside was great, his selling is great, his moveset is way wider than most anyone else, he has great ring presence, everything. I loved how at the beginning, they had Rey escape Angle's attempts to mat wrestle and did a staredown, and then a second one happened after Angle escaped a 619 attempt. Really good match.

I enjoyed the match myself. Angle made Rey's near pinfalls look awfully close and had the crowd at the edge of their seats. A clean finished worked well, and didn't hurt either at all; making Rey look strong for fighting off the lock all this time. I also liked Angle reversing the 619 twice before the third, which made the third try seem that much more important to connect.

You're all missing the greatest thing to happen on Smackdown...

Reigns: "Even that Looney Tune Heidenreich, he got all whacked-out when he seen them caskets. I mean...he's already whacked-out...what am I saying?"

Angle: "Whacko!"

That was hilarious, I LOVE Luther Reigns.

I was surprised. I thought Luther's promo was really good, actually. He actually made me care somewhat about his character. Maybe I won't think of him as Horshu anymore.
