OAO pre-No Way Out No Way Out thread

Recommended Posts

This has to be the weakest No Way Out in history :headbang:

Remember how awful 2003 was? The only thing it had going for it was the return of Stone Cold.

It was a co-brand (as they all were back then), but Angle didn't even defend his title, and Triple H faced Scott Steiner. The mani event was the pointless Rock/Hogan rematch.

Cena vs Angle > Cena vs Taker

Actually, Cena vs. Taker is better than Cena vs just about anyone.

Anyways, I think I might just order this show. Other than the Rumble, I don't remember the last time I ordered a WWE PPV, but this looks pretty good. The build up for JBL vs. Show has sucked for the most part, but I'm a mark for both guys so I'll probably enjoy that anyways. Cena vs. Angle was good once, it should be good again. Taker vs. Reigns has the possibility of being really good if it isn't squashariffic

That still leaves things like Eddie and someone vs. The Bashams, a CW Title match and something else. That's really not too shabby. See, SD! really is better than RAW.

We have a fourth match! According to the PWInsider radio show, Eddie/Rey vs. Bashams for the tag titles was already announced at the tapings tonight, and Rey will be facing one of the Bashams either on Smackdown or Velocity (didn't catch which one).

You can also expect a CW title match, along with the Ms.Smackdown Diva contest (if Meltzer's sources are correct). Personally I just the CW match. <_<

Forgot to add this from the press conference earlier:

by Andrew Lorenz

I just got back from the big No Way Out Press Conference at the Mellon

Arena in Pittsburgh. Nothing really to report.

Michael Cole MC'd it. Teddy Long opened up with the usual gimmick. He

said that he's invited Batista to attend No Way Out and that he accepted.

John Cena came out and did his thing, followed by Torrie who announced

that there will be a contest for "Who's the Next Smackdown Diva" during

the PPV that fans will vote on. (great, as if it's not enough to waste

valuable time on free TV, now we have to pay to watch that! yay!)

Booker T was there, then Rey Mysterio who introduced Eddie Guerrero. I

got the feeling that they were playing up their friendship a little too

much which should instensify the angle when Guerrero turns on Rey. Just a

guess though.

Kurt Angle got a big pop when he came out, even though he was 50/50 booed

when Cena talked about him 5 minutes earlier. Big Show came out with Joy

Gio-no-talent who proved her worth by not saying a word and just taking

off her business suit jacket, then sitting down.

There was only about 100 fans there. I think there was only 1 legit news

camera there along with the WWE hard camera & a roaming camera. There may

have been 2 news stations there though. It was only about a half hour

long, then they rushed the workers backstage to get rid of the fans. I

guess the media was to interview them later.

WWE Title, Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match

JBL .VS. The Big Show. 25min - 40min.

Winner: JBL.

No. Not at all. I saw you list Triple H Vs. Batista as 25-40 as well. Again, not happening. Don't be silly.

A man can dream.

Well, it's not like SD can get much worse.

True, but can it be worse than the Diva Search? I mean, we have around half of them cluttering both shows and it indirectly killed the women's division. Unless this somehow kills the tag division or something, it just can't be as bad.

It's also a nice bit of continuity by WWE, as Angle was Cena's first opponent, and I don't think they've wrestled one another since.

They've wrestled each other several times, including at least 2 PPV matches.

Vince already put the CW belt on a woman, and he thinks almost as little of the tag titles, which are worthless right now anyway. I won't be surprised if or when some faceless and meaningless diva wins another title Vince doesn't care about.

So, every title but the two world titles?

I wouldn't be surpised. At this rate, Smackdown will have more women than men on the roster. They've got to do something with them. Well, something they can put on TV.

They should just be there for photo shoots or something. Really, what do they add on TV? Nothing. They are there to look pretty and be hot. That, or they should be managers. Amy and Joy had fine roles, same as Hiroko. But what the hell does Dawn Marie do? Or that fitness girl, Michelle? Or Jackie? Or Torrie? Yeah, there are males who have no roles too and flounder, but at least they wrestle.

I guess Vince doesn't realize that in this case, less is more. For the last little while, the main pretty divas have been Trish, Torrie and Stacy. Each, Stacy to a lesser extent I suppose, have contributed tons to WWE. Why? Because fans knew who they were. In Torrie's case, the really, really wanted to see her naked, so her Playboy did pretty well. In Trish's, she was the number one babyface, sold tons of merchandise, and had a big storyline romance with Jericho. Could they have done that with faceless bimbo #8?

Yeah, pretty girls are great to look at, but why pay money for them if you don't care? These girls do NOTHING for Vince, with the exception of Playboy bound Christy. And even then, I really doubt that issue will sell as much as the ones in the past, because, get this, the fans really don't care for her. She's the redheaded broad who won that contest and is hyper.

Show can go 25 minutes, and so can JBL so I don't see why it can't be that long. I agree that it is too much time for Batista/Trip.

Since when can Show go 25 minutes, at least not without having a heart attack?

That was the plan.

He went 23 in last year's Rumble, and he was the focus of the action pretty much the entire time he was in the ring.

That had a bunch of other guys involved. In a BS singles match that goes 25 mnutes, they'll have to use every smoke and mirror trick in the book.

The whole point of the Rumble, as well, is conserving energy, meaning that Show not doing a damn thing was actually solid booking. It'll bomb like Adam (5 points to the first to catch the reference) in a cage match where the fans'll be expecting violent action. JBL, despite improvements, isn't exactly a marathon man either, and that's not a good combo for a main event.

I call this match at **, max.

Spiff gets the points, and Spiffy, think of the numerous fans that have cropped up in the internet age that never say WWF before the Austin era. It's a safe bet a lot of them would never have heard of the mutant from Three Mile Island.

HTQ -- I have no idea what Buffy has to do with this, but I do know that ** is pretty generous. JBL'll bust some hump, but it's not gonna go anywhere and I can't see it being better than *.

Adam was the villian from the horrible season 4. I figured the reference was something obscure.

I think the work itself will be *, but I'm adding * for the blood that will be needed to be shed to carry this.
