AP reports that Samari Rolle, Derrick Mason, Kevin Carter, Fred Miller and Joe Nedney are being cut.

The Titans have been pulling cap space outta their ass since the Super Bowl season, and now apperently the're finally gonna take the hit.

I'm surprised they didn't cut Tank Williams as well since he got himself in trouble with the law last week too.

The team was getting old but I don't know if cutting an arm off was the best way to fix the problem.

Now the question is if they replace these guy with quality players or do their usual replacing the good players with nothing.

All of the guys mentioned have been in the league at least seven years, so the Titans are cutting guys right as they're starting their decline, and giving their young guys some playing time. I'm still holding out hope for this year, as the cornerbacks replacing Rolle have shown a lot of promise and the receiving corps, with Mason gone, reminds me a lot of the Patriots' receiving corps, but even if this year sucks there's so much young talent on the team right now that they're going to have a Florida Marlins-esque resurgence in a couple of years.

... I hope.

I hope the Saints will snag Rolle without overpaying for him.

Bledsoe needs another 5 years before he's old enough to be considered for the Cowboys QB position.

Oh my God... Nedney, Mason and Rolle!?

WE'RE FUCKED! WE'RE GONNA DIE IN THE AFC NEXT YEAR! LORD HELP THE TITANS! FUCK!

Hasn't Nedney played a grand total of 2 games over the past two seasons? I'm sure that they could survive with Gary Anderson (Andersen?) and Craig Hentrich on long kicks...

Wasn't Nedney the guy who missed like 2 or 3 extra points a year or two ago?

With Coles wanting out, and Smoot wanting about 4 million more in a signing bonus then Washington is willing to give, I wouldn't be suprised to see both Mason & Rolle in the burgandy & gold in 2005. I believe Greg Williams was with the Titans when they drafted Rolle.

Rolle is going to demand more than Fred Smoot since he's a far better player.

eh, before this past season maybe, but the fact that Smoot got better after Bailey exited, shows a lot about someone being able to take their game up to another level. Smoot's biggest flaw is his poor tackling, and no CB should demand blockbuster money anymore because of the new rules.

I don't see why you'd say that. If anything, having a corner that can cover is even MORE essential now because of the new rules because they can't get away with sloppy coverage like before, so a DB that is intelligent in coverage is in the right to demand big money.

eh, look at Champ Bailey though, who before this season was regarded as the best cover corner in the league. A lot of cover skills had to do with the ability to bump and run, and use your hands to feel the route out downfield, that way you wouldn't lose the WR when you turned your head around to look for the ball, now that the officials have taken on a "hands off" system, it is almost more valuable to have an excellent free safety that can help out on medium - deep routes. I mean the Redskins pass defense went up majorly in efficiency after LOSING Bailey.

Well that's because they had an equally good corner in Shawn Springs, but with half the hype.

He sure wasn't regarded as "just as good" when we signed him. Personally, I felt Shawn Springs had a great year, but you have to also credit Greg Williams' defensive scheme, I mean hell they stopped the run with a Defensive line that had 1-2 different starters every week due to injury.

Right, so the point remains that losing Bailey wasn't that big a blow to the Redskin defense.

Al Harris had Darren Sharper making him look like a decent corner for a while too, so I see what you're saying. When Sharper couldn't come around to support Harris in a double-zone, Harris would get burned every single time.
