Watched it. Loved it. Will buy the DVD. Did Hellblazer a little justice...but it definitely had it's differences...like Constantines personality.

 

Still, I liked it. I'm recommending it. For what it's worth, I also liked, loved and own Hellboy on DVD. So, if you like Hellboy, you'll like this.

I'll give it a try. Not much of a Hellblazer fan myself so I suppose I won't bitch about how Keanu looks nothing like Sting (the real-life inspiration for the Constantine character.)

Cracked me up that the preview code sent out for the videogame has a cutoff right at the end so that it won't reveal any spoilers for the movie, but they go ahead and send out a copy of the graphic novel with the disc.

Actually, aside from the first Matrix, this is the first Keanu "big budget" movie that I've enjoyed. Normally I'd prefer seeing him in older stuff like Bill & Ted, or My Own Private Idaho because it's early in his career and you can excuse the bad acting. But Constantine did a great job of covering that [the fact he STILL hasn't improved in acting skills] up for the most part. I think the secret is more one-liners and less monologues.

 

But yeah, Constantine, definitely good shit. It's already on my wishlist.

Constantine was a really good movie. I haven't read the Hellblazer series, so I didn't have any of those gripes with the movie going in, which I think was kinda nice. I am interested in reading the series now - but I might not want to, because normally when I go movie to book I'm offended at all the differences, heh.

 

I really liked the story, and the characters. It was a very enjoyable movie, and I have no complaints. I will definitely be buying this when it comes out on DVD. Wisecracking and demon killing is right up my alley.

Who would have thought combining the acting skill of Keanu Reeves and the writer of Suburban Commando would produce such a good movie?

 

I'm definately buying this film on DVD and so far everyone I have talked too have loved it. Some said the pacing was a little slow but I think that was a good thing. You need time to process and realize this isn't a straight up action movie and if the film moves faster then that is just what it tries to be.

 

Easily one of the best movies I have seen in the last two months. And I've seen some "oscar" contender films.

Well I no doubt think this Keanu/Rachel Weisz teaming will do much better than their previous film: Chain Reaction. Haha. Then again how could it not?

 

Constantine was a bad ass though, if they'd had someone more cynical and bitter than Keanu it would have seriously rocked.

I watched this movie last week. The trailers made me skeptical at first...plus I had read 'Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits' the tpb this movie supposedly based from. So naturally I had set my expectation waaay down low.

 

Suprisingly, Constantine turns out to be very decent and enjoyable...even with the many changes implemented compared to the comics. Hell, I don't mind Keanu...which is strange, to say the least. However, some story elements from Dangerous Habits were kept in...such as:

 

1. Constantine dying from lung cancer

2. Constantine giving the middle finger to the devil

3. Lucifer descends (his bloody barefoot entered the frame)...when Constantine cuts his wrist.

 

I enjoyed this movie...even moreso than Hellboy (which I liked a lot, btw).

I thought the film lost a little steam after the first half of the movie. But overall, it was a visually stunning picture. The images of hell, while predictable, almost made me turn away for a few seconds.

IIRC, the visual fx for this movie were done by Weta Digital...same folk that worked on the LOTR trilory. They did a fine job on Constantine, I'd say.

 

Hmm, Ebert seems to hate this movie. Oh well...*shrugs*

This movie was one of the best visual flicks I've seen in a long time. I can't really say much about the story, not being a fan of the comic, or knowing much about Archangel's and Exorcists and all that, but I enjoyed the ride.

I liked this movie but it wasn't remotely as rollicking as Hellboy. Hellboy had some really bizarre humor thrown in that I enjoyed. And it had Ron Perlman. And the cool looking Nazi heel.

I'm a fan of the comic. I still enjoyed the movie thoroughly, particulalry the visuals, but there were so many changes from the comic, that I would barely class this as an adaptation. More like a reinterpretation.

He's not a gung-ho action hero, he's a coldblooded manipulator who depends as much on luck and lies as he does actual magic. The Hellblazer series depends heavily on its setting in London, its backstory of old English occultism and its various weird British characters. I haven't seen the movie, but I just can't imagine it taking place in LA with Ted Neodore Logan and being anything like the comic.

The friends part was accurate and Constantine was still a nasty piece of work, and there was enough homoerotic overtone in the movie that it is POSSIBLE his character might be bi. Negative on the city, accent, hair but the rest was very close.

 

Anyone who told you that Constantine is a gung-ho action hero, really didn't see this movie. The luck and lies is accurate as well.

 

Other than hair color and nationality, the character is actually pretty spot on.

They should of called this movie Matrix 4: Holy Wars. Decent Keanu Reeves action movie as it seems to follow the formula from everything else he has done i.e. black & white suit, guns, religion.
