SWF Hall of Fame DVDs

Recommended Posts

Alright, here's what we're doing. We are going to start putting together DVDs of some of the Hall of Famers, sort of giving them a view of their past career. Here are those up on the block. Trying to get the Golden Age guys taken quickly...

Edwin MacPhisto

The King of Hearts/The Suicide King

The HVille Thugg

Sacred

Thoth

Mark Stevens

Chris Raynor

That's the first round of them. Think of important matches and promos you would want to include, and perhaps some easter eggs (Like the best of Christian Blackwell for Sacred, Bastion for HVille, etc...). Post all your suggestions here. :)

Dig up Kibs' history of Silent/Edwin. That's a damn DVD right there.

I demand that my DVD feature DVDA.

Would that count as an Easter egg?

Raynor in a thong!

Edwin: 'Careful how you swing your "club", caveman!'

Raynor: 'CHRIS SMASH!'

Oh God... Carnie porn.

POOFNAR must be in there, or it shall rain avacados for the next sixty days.

Chicken McNuggets for the Soul (Or whatever the one with red-vested Raynor action figure and matching-eyes Edwin action figure from Burger King was called. "They need the real MEEEE!")

Edwin's wacky heel-run, just because.

The first triple cage match from 13th Hour back in '82 (Hey, Sacred showed up at the end...)

I won't, however, mention the Dance-Off, only for the fact that I'm sure about a jillion other people will say it too.

That time Grand Slam beat Stubby (Hey, if it was enough of an accomplishment for it to make the Midnight Carnival website, it can be on the DVD. Then again, so did "Puffy like a bunny", in describing why Edwin rocks.)

I'll have to find one or two tidbits for myself seeing as no one read anything I was involved in or wrote, and if they did, they probably soon forgot.

Well I'd be interested in that Muzz, but most of your stuff was before my time so I don't really know where to look.

As far as Muzz goes, we ave to get the build to... I think it was Ashes 2 Ashes 2003, where Sacred and El Luchador Magnifico were feuding over the World Championship. During the build, Sacred snatched the title from ELM, doing what was as I recall a very interesting storyline about adjusting his wrestling style to deal with ELM's more aerial style (which means we need to add at least one of the build matches that didn't involve ELM). There was much rejoicing when he did about how the Australian Glass Ceiling had finally been broken.

Frankly, the majority of Sacred's stuff is DVD-quality, so barring any other in-ring storylines, we'd want to grab the promo storyline and some of the matches surrounding it in which his wife died, which presented sort of a revolution for the character.

Unfortunately I'm working from memory here, so I don't have links available.

A2A 2003 would have been only a couple of months before I joined, and I'm sure ELM left longer ago than that. In fact I'm sure he was only present via video at G4 due to immigration laws. Or something.

I loved your storyline leading up to G3 with Axis. I loved that fucking match, especially the ending.

Mine went away last year, but I do have my part of the archiving project from way back when on my HDD at home. I'll look it up and see what time period I was responsible for.

As for myself and King, I am pretty sure we have anything we wrote archived...

I think some pretty much required ones would be debut matches (or, if they lost those, their first victory :P), and notable title wins and defenses. I'd like to surf the archives to find some not-so-obvious nomination material, but my part of the archive project was only two months, so I'm pretty limited. Plus, I have a terrible memory when it comes to fed and title history.

Here's what I can come up with, from my horrible memory and my share of the archives. I'll let other people pick up the slack. :P

King

-- Debut Match

-- World Title win, over H-Ville Thugg

-- King vs. GSMS, G2 Tournament

-- "Revenge is a Dish Best Served in"... I want to say Vermont? Whatever state. Classic promo.

-- The ML Poker game promos.

-- The in-show promo where he announces Edwin/Mark retirement match. I loooove King in that promo.

GSMS

-- Debut Match

-- vs. Stubby

-- vs. Edwin, Retirement match

-- World Title win, Regenerate Rules Match

-- World Title win, over the Suicide King

-- Clusterfuck win

-- "Take The Long Way Home" - not an uber-important life shattering promo like some others mentioned - it's quiet, it's small scale... but I still think it's pretty damn good.

Edwin

-- Debut Match

-- World Title win, vs. Bo and Thugg

-- ICTV Title Defense, vs. Sacred, Battleground 2... or you could do the Double Ladder Match... or both!

-- vs. Nielsen, Stairway to Hell

-- "Good Morning, Angels!"

-- "In The Fade"

Thugggggg

-- Debut Match

-- World Title win, vs. El Luchadore Magnifico

-- World Title win, vs. Mark Stevens

-- I know Thugg has some notable promos, but I'll be damned if I can think of them right now. It's 3AM, I'm falling asleep at the keyboard. Forgive me, Thugg - I'll fix this ASAP.

Sacred

-- Debut Match

-- vs. Axis, G3

-- World Title win, vs. El Luchadore Magnifico

-- "I Will Survive" must be on there. Probably best as an Easter Egg.

-- "In The Name of Evil", which has the second greatest*** line in any SWF promo ever. Regarding his evilness:

Soon that will spread, with the dropping of more plastic bowls…

Thoth

-- Debut Match

-- World Title win, vs. Tom Flesher.

-- "Thoth Go Crazy" - Not a career defining promo, but I still love everything about it. From the hellhole motel to Grimedogg coming out with a drink in hand. Beautiful.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

More nominations to come as soon as I've got the time to research (which will probably not happen until Sunday :(...)

*** For whoever's wondering, the greatest line in any SWF promo ever comes from Edwin:

A plank drops out, and, in one savage instant four hundred hot dogs fall from above and bury him like so many Peruvian rugby players.
