"TNA star Michael Shane may soon be competing under his given name, Matt Bentley, due to the recent signing of the Shane Twins by World Wrestling Entertainment.

From what I understand, Mike Shane owns the copyright on the name and since WWE will be protecting it for him as he's now under contract, Bentley may need to give up the goose so to speak, and change his working name.

While the decision hasn't been 100% confirmed, if it goes through, hopefully TNA will handle this smartly so it doesn't come off too disjointed. Shane/Bentley is primed for a big babyface push down the line. "

* See you can't escape the clutches of wwe anywhere.....sad news for Shane though

I just assumed that it was because "Michael Shane" sounded enough like a reversed "Shawn Michaels" that he never bothered to change it.

I suppose it's just smart business for the Shane twins to put a © on their own names though...

I mean instead of Matt Bentley they should just repackage him as Shane Matthews. Have him come out and say he is tired of living in HBK's shadow, so he will cut ties with any connection to HBK. Hence "Shane Matthews". It is staying true to the principle of using your first name as your wrestling last name (Michael Shawn Hickenbottom---> Shawn Michaels, Matthew Shane Bentley---> Shane Matthews)

If Michael Shane was actually entertaining, I'd probably care, but right now... eh. Changing names in TNA means getting the worst possible name. Whatever happend to Simon Diamond, a.k.a Pat Kenney? What a great push he got for that name change...

Calling him Shane Michaels would be a nice FU to WWE.

Yeah and forever label him as a pretender!! :firing:

Well, Michael Shane needs to do something because he's fucking boring right now. Perhaps a name change would give him the motivation that he needs to not suck.

He's now just called "Micheal"

Bwahahahahahahahahha

Of course, I may change my tune if he uses that Franz Ferdinand track as entrance music

TECHNICALLY, he could still use Michael Shane, since he's using MICHAEL, the full name, and not just Mike. But, then again, TNA creative is terrible..."Empire Saint"? The FUCK?!

This has no impact whatsoever, but the name is already taken by a guy in Montreal.

More on TNA's Michael Shane reverting back to his real name of Matt

Bentley... Apparently he shot himself in the foot. Bentley contacted a

booker for Florida's Full Impact Pro promotion after they promoted Mike

Shane of 'The Shane Twins' for an event and claimed this was false

advertising because he was the real Michael Shane. The booker told this

to his Mike Shane (which is his real name and he also owns the trademark

to the name) who went to his lawyer and the issue was resolved legally.

The strange thing here is that both men have worked on the same shows

together in the past and could be considered friends. So basically if

Bentley had kept quiet and not made this an issue he wouldn't be having

to change his ring name.
