What happened to the Dudleys?

Recommended Posts

They were pretty much dead in the water (cliche 1) after Taker buried them alive (cliche 2), so they had to be pulled off of TV before one final run (cliche 3).

Do you think that they'll be smart enough to put MNM & the Dudleys on the same show when they come back? You know, to take advantage of the fact that the teams have worked together and all.

MNM were set for SD! dark matches lately, so let's hope so. Plus, Nitro and Matthews work the cruiser style, so it'd make sense for them to be on SD! as they can help that division as well (you know, if they ever do anything with it).

I mentioned this in another thread, but it seems applicable here..

From what I heard, the plan as of a couple weeks ago was to bring the Dudleys back to face Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio for the tag titles at WM.

I thought there was a Eddy V. Rey plan?

Very well could be, that's why I put the "couple weeks ago" disclaimer on my post. Keep in mind, the company we're talking about has a penchant for booking-on-paper-napkin tendencies.

Smackdown Magazine reported that there would be an Eddie vs. Rey match at WrestleMania.

I remember when they had actual tag teams and didn't just pair up random singles competitors.

And it's funny how OVW breeds actual tag teams with the help of by far the greatest tag team manager of all time, yet all those teams that wind up meaning something (Jersey Shore Crew, Troubleshooters) get broken up in favor of lame/unover singles gimmicks (Simon Dean, Masterpiece Chris Masters).

Hell, OVW has more actual tag teams now than I think WWE has had since '02.

Well...a tag team IS two singles competitors paired together..so yea.

And you could mean..make teams like, The Bashams, where they come in together, but even then they're just two random OVW stars paired together.

If Bischoff has any say in matters then I wouldn't be surprised if the Tag Division dying was partially his fault. He hates tag team style wrestling.

Not back in the day. Tag Teams were Teams of two wrestlers that did that style and nothing more for the most part.

Rock'n'Roll Express, The Rockers, The Road Warriors, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew(this was before Arn did singles stuff), The Fabulous Freebirds, etc

Well...in this thread what team were you talking about exactly?

Because going by that definition, MNM is an actual team. As they both work that, not so high flying, cruiser style. (this is who I believe you were referring to?) And well, the Bashams, and Dudleyz, are give-ins on being an actual tag team, as they even fit the part lookwise.

First in terms of the Bashrams in fact in OVW i heard tell they were even Feuding with each other in singles.

With the Dudleys it must have been kinda hard for them to come up with anything, when the freshest idea they last tried on Smackdown was to make Bubba and DVon the footsoldiers of Boss...SPIKE.

Eddy and Mysterio, Mysterio and RVD, Kidman and London...those types. The pairing random singles wrestlers with one another thing.

I can't really translate this, but what I get out of it is that you heard The Bashams were rivals in OVW. And you're right. Danny=Damaja, and Doug=Doug Basham aka The Machine.

Bubba did an interview on Between The Ropes recently and he said that it was time for the Dudleyz to vanish for awhile.

Not that I can blame them, after that horrible angle with Spike.

This is why I wish that things were different, because the tag division would work if they were allowed to operate without a leash put on them, ability-wise, moveset-wise, and storyline-wise.

I agree. Now with London and Kidman, the company wasn't doing much with them anyway, pair them up long term, they should still be a team now even. Instead they hot shot the titles to them in a surprise, break them up and now neither have done anything too noteable storyline wise in months.

I just don't get how the Bashams were supposedly singles stars in OVW, come up as a tag team (disregarding how deep their hatred of each other was there and now they are brothers) and actual teams are broken up for random stuff. The tag-teamers come up as singles workers and the singles workers, which I believe both Bashams were main event, so possibly could've been solid midcarders in WWE, become a stale tag-team.

well they generally disregard us IWC types who actually delve into history and records and stuff. they prefer to produce their product for the casual wrestling fan, who outside of the Ohio River Valley has no knowledge of OVW and therefore wouldn't know of the origins of the Bashams or Batista for that matter and others.

London and Kidman could have been really interesting as a tag team. Just for the Aerial Double teaming they could be capable of

Yeah, I wasn't going to mention the Basham feud at first for that reason. I mean, it shouldn't matter if they did something meaningful.

Just from what I hear, Dinsmore and Conway were an AWESOME tag team and there forever. Instead, Conway was thrown in as a French sympathizer and Dinsmore is our handicapped buddy. Now, not saying Eugene didn't get over, because he did, but those are two guys who apparently gelled together and will never team. Tag Team matches were often show highlights a few years back and now it is forgotten. I don't mind the random teams once in a while, but it just loses any effect after a while.

Conway and Dinsmore were awesome as a tag team, as well as on their own. They've put on some tremendous matches, but now Nick is limited by the Eugene gimmick, and Conway is forced to carry the load for Grenier.

Personally, during the Draft this year, I'd love to see La Rez split and have Conway go to Smackdown. I think he could become a worthy singles competitor if taken away from the Resistance gimmick. As much as we need tag teams, those guys have run their course, IMO.

Smackdown Magazine reported that there would be an Eddie vs. Rey match at WrestleMania.

If you're referring to the actual 'SmackDown! Magazine' printed by the WWE, then I am surprised they would so blatantly give away their future booking.
