Questions About MP3 Players

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a good MP3 player right now. I want something with 20 gigs, anything less is unacceptable. The main features I really want are a long battery life and the ability to redownload the music from the player back to my computer. I want the player so when if I delete a song from my computer, I can get it back by downloading it from the MP3 player. Are there any such players that can actually do this? And whats this feature called btw?

As long as you remember to turn off the "automatic sync" option in the itunes program before you start transferring songs, you should be able to do what you ask for with it with ipod.

iPod 20 Gig has the best interface, feel, look, and control (i wonder why nobody's ripped off the new click/touch wheel, its a work of brilliance), however it is $$$ and short on the extra options, and its battery life is merely acceptable.

iRiver makes a 20 gig hefty thing that has lots of options on it, and its battery life i believe is more. Avoid anything by Creative, and be wary about Dell, those companies are not known for consistent quality, regardless of the inevitable "i didnt have any problem with my creative/dell", they're the lucky ones. Out of those two Dell is definetly the better option though.

Go with iPod or iRiver's 20 gig-er.

The real question is how much do you value being trendy? If it's a priority, YOU MUST HAVE THE IPOD! If it's not much of a concern, feel free to explore the competition which offers the exact same product for half the price.

To assist on metr0man's comment, iTunes (the provided software component to iPod) doesn't copy songs from the iPod, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. You just need to use one of many non-Apple programs out there to do it.

Ones that I've heard people I trust vouch for are:

SharePod

EphPod

Anapod Explorer

iPod Agent

Anapod is money, the others are free. SharePod is just a simple program to copy the music from the iPod. EphPod and Anapod are practically iTunes replacements if you don't like that program.

iPod Agent takes music off the iPod like SharePod does and can also do a bunch of other interesting things if you want like put the weather forecast or movie showtimes on your iPod using the built in calendar and notepad functions. It also manages Podcasting, where people make updated feeds of radio programs and send them over the internet and your computer automatically downloads them and sends them to iPod. Podcasting is becoming rather popular right now.

Don't listen to people like the above who are either upset they don't have an iPod or just hate it because it's trendy and they hate trendy things. Software options like the above are rare to nonexistant on other players because they don't have the huge community of third party developers that iPod has.

Well, it depends on what you want and what you plan to do.

If your primary wish is to have something that will go with you all over the goddamned place without being a burden, I would reccomend one of those little Flash memory players.
