"-WWE Superstar Booker T on ESPN Radio 710 AM. He commented that he recently signed a new two year deal with WWE. This confirms that Booker T will be around for at least two more years with rumors that he would retire when his current deal ran out."

At least the rumors of him retireing could be put to rest.

Oh boy, 2 more years of Booker floating around the midcard and being involved in silly, silly angles.

Can't wait.

EDIT: I'd much rather see Booker T let his contract run out and maybe go the Ricky Steamboat/Mick Foley route, perhaps reuniting Harlem Heat or something like that.

Sooooo....does Booker think that in these two years he will sometime win the big one?

Posted

Makes sense since it was around this time 4 years ago he first signed with WWF (he was one of the few who chose to work for WWF, rather than sit on his ass and collect guarenteed Time Warner money...Linda McMahon stated around the time his was not one of the contracts that they picked up directly from the sale).

I'm wondering if they promised him a push when he resigned.

Or maybe he's just not making as much as he'd like from "Jam Zone" (or whatever his clothing store is called).

Still, I'm glad to see him still around.

Unless Booker T invested absolutely horribly, he's doing fine.

Booker and Stevie were both, for some reason, making around $750,000 a year for their last couple years in WCW. I believe they reworked Stevie's contract, though, once they realized how fucking nuts they were.

He was 5 time WCW champion. I haven't watched SD in a while, does he still do that thing?

So Vince didn't want to sign the current (at the time) WCW champion? He's a thinker.

Meh, I was only saying that becuase until the WWE got there hands on it the WCW world title was only equal to the WWE IC title.

I think the IC title held more weight than the WCW title did in 2000-2001. The belt seemed to change hands every week. It's easy to be a five or six time champ like Booker or Jarrett when the title traded on every other tv show and every ppv

Posted

That and people like Jeff Jarrett who was the IC champion his last night in the WWE and when showing up in WCW was world champion before much time at all. Then you have WCW champions like Booker T & DDP who when they came to the WWE has so far only been able to win the IC or European title.

McMahon and the ego take control. "We must look better than WCW, even though WCW is dead!!!"

I guess he can deal with the midcard as long as he's still earning six figures. Considering some people on TV eat bull balls for fifty grand, pretending to fight people for six figure pay outs definitely doesn't suck and I'm pretty sure Booker is happy taking the money as long as it's being paid out.

What's the point of this? He's not going to get a push and he's taking up space that could be given to a newcomer.

I think Booker is good to keep around. He's the type of guy that the fans see as credible, so he can be used to put over younger guys coming up. He's perfect for that US/IC title mix spot on the card.

Unfortunally thats most likely as far as he will go. I would like to see him become a six time world champion.

Come on guys! Did anybody for a second think he would retire! No matter how many people say Foley, Steamboat and others retired, they are still involved in the business. It is all they know.

God can you imagine what Booker would do without wrestling?

Exactly

He would play computer games all day and with Stevie Ray remember the good ol' days.

Signing a contract extension was all he could do.

No, I was saying that WWF went out of their way to make sure they signed Booker T. They didn't pick up his contract as part of the sale, so they had to negotiate individually with him.

It might have been equal later on, but not when Booker won his first WCW Championship.

When Booker T won his first WCW title, it was July 9th 2000. At the time, the IC champion was Val Venis and he lost it to Chyna which wasn't even a one-one match. Chyna got the title by pinning Trish in a tag team match, with Eddie as Chyna's partner and Val as Trish's partner. I don't remember the angle that well, but when a singles title changes hands in a tag-team match when the winner didn't even pin the title holder, that's pretty sad.

Booker T did lose the title the next night, the 28th, to Nash and won his second on September 17th 2000. Now during his second reign the title wasn't worth that much because Russo beat him. Granted, before Booker won the title it was in David Arquette's position. But like I said before, the IC was below the WCW title when Booker won it for the first time.

Booker has won the big won. I remember when it happened and was very happy since he finally got what he deserved.

I'll never forget the way Triple H buried the WCW title during that promo he cut on Booker shortly before Wrestlemania XIX.

This is the same guy who puts Flair over for being a 16 time World Champion, even though 6 of those time were the same WCW title he made fun of Booker for winning.

whats even more ironic is that he had the same exact title over his sholders during that promo.

I really wish WWE would give Booker T one title reign before he retires. I wouldn't even care if it was a two month reign, just as long as he held the title.
