The Futureheads

Recommended Posts

Save the unheard-by-me Delays and Kasabian, I'm secure in the knowledge that the Futureheads are the best.

So, I might be seeing these guys when they come back to the States in June. I imagine they are very animated when they play.

Still doesn't eliminate The Music, The Libertines, Franz Ferdinand, Delays, Razorlight, Kasabian and Bloc Party.

I actively dislike everyone on that list except Franz and Bloc Party. Futureheads are fine too, though I haven't given their album more than a once-over. I'll listen to it again tonight.

These bands (with the exception of Bloc Party who seem passable) all make me ashamed to be British. Our music scene is really on a downward spiral the last couple of years and no matter how much the media try to tell me that Keane are interesting (they aren't) or the Kaiser Chiefs will be great (they wont), it doesn't gloss over the fact that these bands are all hype, no substance. The Futureheads do an average enough Jam impression, but there has to be something better in the UK.

What the hell is so good about them? Everything I've heard was vaguely harmless I guess, but certainly nothing more. 'Hounds of Love' can fuck right the fuck off. And I agree that every current British band mentioned is shite, though I will express my fondness for British Sea Power.

Kasabian are idiots. They try too hard to have an 'attitude' and their music isn't nearly good enough to back any of the posturing up and make it forgiveable. Even declaring their firm support of Leicester City couldn't soften me up enough not to realise they're about as far from being the genuine rock'n'roll article as Showaddywoddy.

Oh, other than some Partridge-esque vocal inflections and a general spazziness not unlike XTC's Drums and Wires, the Futureheads aren't ripping off much. Their songs are a bit more muscular than the older band's.

British Sea Power is good, but Inc has a point -- I'd rather be listening to the Bunnymen.

Of course, with the Futureheads there is quite an abundance of bands I'd rather be listening to.

And all of those other bands are pretty terrible, aside from the Bloc Party, who I have heard mostly good things about but have not looked into too thouroughly because I heard one song and didn't enjoy it that much. Thought it was passable, though, so maybe the rest is better.

Well, 'Hounds of Love' was certainly better than the other song of theirs I keep hearing, I'll give it that. Dunno what that one was called. Given the skippy Englishness of their tunes, I think I'll probably come to regard them as somewhat of a guilty pleasure, which no doubt will piss me off even more.

British Band. Did 'Under the moon of love'. Which probably doesn't help you.

Clinic are good, and I Am Kloot are ok as well.

I've heard another futureheads song, after warming to 'Hounds of Love' slightly, and it wasn't good. Something to do with 'false conversations'? The intro wasn't bad.
