I need an RPG........

Recommended Posts

SNES Roms:

www.emuasylum.com

That's the best site I find.

www.romreactor.net

Isn't bad either.

That EMUasylum website got my computer acting all screwy.

That's the most in-jokey thing I've EVER seen, and it must have taken so much effort.

X-Box as Umaro IS awesome. Who's the virtua boy supposed to be? Besides someone who gets his ass kicked all the time.

I can't remember, watched the video before lunch. But I think it was Gau. Gau was always a glutton for punishment.

And yeah, it looks like they put a lot of work into it. Pretty amazing stuff. And it reminds me of just how epic that VI ending really was.

Don't know how to do the spoiler thing so

SPOILER ALERT

Can I get a non-Nazi opinion on Suikoden IV? I'd go to review sites, but don't have a chainsaw to battle through the red tape. I adore Shadow Hearts (both) and have generally been a traditional RPG fan since Shining Force II days, my favourite RPG ever.

Suikodne IV

It's better than Suikoden III, and not nearly as good as the first two. It has a fairly intriguing plot (I didn't play through the entire game, mind you), it goes back to the engagingly quick system of the first two games. The graphics are REALLY pretty.

The ridiculous encounter rate hurts this game BADLY though, which is weird because Suikoden always had a pretty low encounter rate. Four people to a party also takes the variety out of the game.

I would highly reccomend you rent this game. I was high on it at first, but the nasty, nasty encounter rate eventually wore me down.

Well I've been rocking out to Earthbound on my ZSNES now. Also going to play Mario RPG, Link to the Past, and Breath of Fire 1 and 2.

Anyone know of any other good SNES ones?

Re: Suikoden 4

The encounter rate isn't so bad once you figure out that holding down R1 makes you go fast, including the ship. Makes those long ship voyages a lot easier.

As for the graphics being pretty...are you nuts? The game is downright ugly when compared to FFX or SH:Covenant. I thought most of the voice acting was pretty well done though.

I would also recommend a rent. It's a fairly decent waste of time, as long as you don't spend 50 bucks on it.

Dama: If you haven't played it, get Ogre Battle. That game is all kinds of awesome, one of my favorite games ever.

The entire time I played I had the R1 button held down, making my character run like his ass was on fire, and the ship speed up to a crawl. The encounter rate is still awful.

And yeah, the graphics are pretty. More for the backgrounds than the fairly generic character models.

Most games are ugly compared to FFX.

Ditto on Skies of Arcadia Legends... great turn-based, old-school feeling RPG.

Obviously, if you haven't played FF IV/FF VI/Chrono Trigger give those a spin.

Yeah, the Suikoden screens I saw leave a lot to be desired. Definitely of a lower quality than its' competitors. I'm currently tossing up between Suikoden IV, Ys: The Ark of Napishtim and Star Ocean: Til the End of Time.

Just sitting here discussing RPGs has made me realise how many fucking RPGs there are on PS2, it's a massive amount.

Not that I'm complaining.
