Vyce 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 This is news? Howard ceased being relevant a good 10 years ago. BTW, for those who don't know, foundry music is associated (or was at one time) with Opie & Anthony. Who are everything Howard wishes he still was (that being, 1) relevant and 2) entertaining). UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 I find it funny how Howard isn't "relevant", yet he has the #1 morning drive radio show and currently has the government and FCC on his ass, making new laws in every media medium because of him, now even trying to censor Satellite Radio and Cable because of him. BTW - he filmed these XM commercials a few years ago, O&A just played that today.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 i dont understand... its an XM commercial from a few years back with Stern in it?? Uh, so what? how in any way shape or form is that thread-worthy?? as far as 'relevance' goes, I'd say stern is quite a bit more relevant, known, and listener-attracting than opie and anthony. However, this thread is the only thing's whose relevance i'm questioning.

It's funny how after he started bashing Bush, the FCC and Goverment immedietly got on his ass and started up with all these indecency fines(which ironically enough, he was the only one getting fined). Then, he decides to leave and join a Satellite Radio, and oh look, now all of the sudden all the right wing nutjobs want to censor Satellite Radio, which has gone on untouched since it began, and Cable TV which has been on forever with nobody caring. You can try to call it a coincidence but it's pretty clear they are after him.

Judging by E!'s ratings --- a single million is stretching it nicely. It's funny how after he started bashing Bush, the FCC and Goverment immedietly got on his ass and started up with all these indecency fines(which ironically enough, he was the only one getting fined). Because his lame schtick was never criticized BEFORE Bush. Nope, NO fines whatsoever before he started his sub-moronic Bush bashing. I used to call Franken unfunny --- until I heard Stern go off on an anti-Bush rant. Now THAT is not funny. And you might want to ask Mancow or, hell, A LOT of TV stations about "Stern as FCC martyr" crap he pulls. Then, he decides to leave and join a Satellite Radio, and oh look, now all of the sudden all the right wing nutjobs want to censor Satellite Radio, which has gone on untouched since it began, and Cable TV which has been on forever with nobody caring. And if you think the two shut-ins who watch Stern's show is why the FCC, idiotically, wants to censor cable, you're delusional. Why does the FCC want to censor cable? Because every agency wants the same thing --- more power. You can try to call it a coincidence but it's pretty clear they are after him. Well, I know he thinks so. Of course, he's been trying to prove he's relevant for a long, long while now... -=Mike
UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 What do you consider relevant? He's the #1 rated morning drive DJ in America, he's front page news in NY a few times a week and is always being talked about on CNN or Fox News. I call that relevant.

UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 Oh and BTW, about the fines, Rush Limbaugh the other day said the word Blowjob on the air when talking about teen's having sex. He said Blowjob and then kept saying the initials "BJ". On Howard's show yesterday he was informed by his manager that if he used the initals BJ together when referring to sex he'd be thrown off the air. So let's see if Rush Limabaugh gets fined for it(and we all know he won't)

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 14, 2005 - Of course it isn't staggering, because he wiped them out. Although just about every city has their own clone of him. Who, exactly, did he "wipe out"? And just about every city has a "clone" of him? News to me. - NY isn't the country, but it's the #1 media market in the world Which isn't quite the same thing as them being the country. NY think a guy who works in NY is spiffy. Wow. - You don't watch CNN and Fox News enough. Well, I don't have a TIVO set up to record anytime the name "Howard Stern" --- or, hell, the phrase "overrated hack" is uttered on those channels. You should read this article if you truley believe he is not still relevant http://money.cnn.com/2005/01/27/news/newsm...atings/?cnn=yes Which makes him still less relevant than, say, Rush Limbaugh. UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 Who, exactly, did he "wipe out"? And just about every city has a "clone" of him? News to me. Well I'm pretty sure before he became national there was some radio show on the station's he got onto. He destroyed them in ratings and took over slots all over the country. Which isn't quite the same thing as them being the country. NY think a guy who works in NY is spiffy. Wow. I never said he was on every paper in the entire country, I said NY. Not Don Imus or any other cornball, him. More than I can say for the Rush Limbaugh's and Michael Savage's and "Mancow's" of the world. Which makes him still less relevant than, say, Rush Limbaugh. Kudos. Rush Limbaugh is no longer relevant. I think it's pretty generally excepted that he's just a wind-up toy for the republican party, Well, I don't have a TIVO set up to record anytime the name "Howard Stern" --- or, hell, the phrase "overrated hack" is uttered on those channels. Sorry, I figured since you had the technology to find out that only 2 "shut in's" watch Howard's show, that you could do that too.

UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 How many stations is he on? Does it even number 50? 46 Hmm, biggest radio deal in history. More listerners than Stern. Howard signed for 500 million with Sirius, Rush signed dfor 250 million. As far as listeners, Rush gets more because every right wing assclown in the universe listens to him. However Stern dominates the key 18-34 ratings in nearly every market he's in. It's not technology. It's looking at E!'s horrid ratings. Do you have any site that shows these horrid ratings? Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 Yeah, the FCC and Bush care about Stern, right? You people who believe that are the blind sheep who listen to him. Howard Stern is a hypocrite. You idiots thing he is this "champion of free speech." He had a gag order put on Opie and Anthony and Don and Mike in 2000 and if they said his name on the air, they'd be fired. He's as bad as the FCC. He picked the wrong satellite company. Sirius is so minor league compared to XM it's not even funny. And don't tell me about the NFL - people who care about that have DirecTV to watch the games. He also stole most of his radio bits from someone named Steve Doll, but he'll tell you he invented everything.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 Oh and BTW, about the fines, Rush Limbaugh the other day said the word Blowjob on the air when talking about teen's having sex. I heard Rush say this (it was either Tuesday or Wednesday), and I did a double-take. And Loaded, you do realize that Howard has had problems with the FCC for years now, right. If memory serves, he got handed a big-ass fine in the early '90s, but due to the limited media avenues at the time (or at least as compared to now) it didn't seem that big a deal as it does now. And for the record, I was a Stern fan for years until he got on this Oh-woe-is-me-Bush-is-out-to-get-me complex. For me his most entertaining parts of his show are when he talks about current events. Whenever he would have the lesbian strippers on that's when I'd change the station...

Whenever he would have the lesbian strippers on that's when I'd change the station... You are definitely right about that, but he toned down his show so much because of those fines. You cannot deny that they have been on him hard(much harder than anyone else in the media) ever since he started the anti-bush stuff and that seems to be really when this anti-indecency crusade all started. And now that he announces he's going to Satellite they all of the sudden want to regulate that and Cable? Just seems odd to me.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 I think Stern gets hit the "hardest" because he's the biggest fish in his pond, and like I said before I really haven't been paying attention to Stern for a few years now so I don't know if the anti-Bush stuff is the "reason." I think Janet Jackson's boob played a bigger role, imo. I stopped taking Stern seriously on this debate when he called Michael Savage "pro-Bush," which tells me he doesn't know what he's talking about regarding this matter. And I think shows like The Shield (which I watch) are helping stir the "regulate cable" debate, which I disagree with. Personally, I think the V-Chip helped start all this. After all, by giving ratings to TV shows, all you have to do is look at what it's rated and block that show, giving tv networks the opportunity to put whatever they want on and say "Well, we rated it so don't watch it..." Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2005 OMG WHAT A CURRENT EVENT. I even downloaded this and I don't get it. Are they calling Stern a sellout? Is it funny because he's advertising satellite radio when he's still on FM until sometime well into 2006? I guess I just don't keep up with the Immature Shock Jock Wars.
