Does anybody else think

Recommended Posts

I mean its 2 months away and only a handful of former ECW stars have been signed for the event, and with Shane Douglas holding his own "ECW" type reunion show the night before (in the ECW arena, where the PPV should take place), Im beginning to think that this isnt gonna work. Is it me or does anyone else think that 95% of the wrestlers contacted are gonna, or have already, told Vince to fuck off?

Yeah, it seems like it's not coming together very well at all right now.

However, "bomb" is all relative. While it won't draw anywhere near on the level of a regular WWE PPV, I bet it still draws at least as well as one of the old ECW PPVs would. As long as they can bring in a few guys outside the roster, they'll be fine.

I'm betting it gets next to no promotion, no TV time to set up the matches, and basically will be slapped together half-assedly at the last minute. Then when people don't bother checking it out, it will validate what Vince felt about ECW anyway.

Any chance of it being $19.99 to view, like the real ECW PPVs back in the day (HAHAHAHA!)?

This is obvious, but it all depends how they push the show.

If they just say "hey there's an ECW reunion show in June, order it" its going to do 50 or 60,000 buys on PPV. If they actually spend a bunch of TV time on it, and make it seem like something special, then there's no reason why it shouldn't do at least the same as all the other non major WWE PPVs have been doing (200-250,000 buys).

I am not really looking forward to the show, because I dont really want to see these guys who are 4 years older, and most of them rarely wrestle anymore.

It could be a great show, I mean I'm sure they'll have guys like Benoit, Eddie, maybe Malenko, Jerihco, and Rey on the show, which will at least guarantee 3 or 4 good matches on the show. Plus, they should have Foley there and maybe even Austin.

But the bottom line, this really isn't an ECW show, and as such I'm not that hyped up about it. Of course the minute Paul Heyman cuts whatever promo he's going to cut to sell the show, I'm sure I'll be saying something totally different.

It'll do decently, no matter what. The DVD set proved the ECW brand name is enough to do quite a bit of business.

If they are all there they should talk about it during promos for a while leading up to it. The Monday night before Jericho can have a special highlight reel in which he has Malenko, Dreamer and Storm all there to hype it up. Jericho can bring up the fact that Malenko, Dreamer and Storm are all coming out of retirement for it. Then it could be intrupted by a few people who have been known to hate ECW in the past and have a impromtu ECW style match where the team of four ECW guys come out on top. I think if they did that then it would get them a few extra buys.

Yeah, I think the whole point of the PPV is for it to bomb as well. That rascally Vince.

What'll be interesting to see is how they interweave the ECW PPV into WWE programming. Will it be "Oh, and by the way, we're having an ECW reunion show with such-and-such lineup . . . " or will they actually work this into the storylines on both RAW and SmackDown in order to make this a "must see" PPV? Will ECW guys just start randomly showing up on the two shows? Should be some interesting TV during much of May and June . . . or maybe not :-)

The less that they show the ECW talent on television the better. When the general public sees the kind of shape a lot of these guys are in it might end up costing the PPV buys if anything. The magic of seeing these guys again is the draw, and if WWE shows them for free on television, specifically guys like The Sandman who are in horrific shape and will look like a fish out of water on Raw or Smackdown, no one is going to take the PPV seriously. They need to keep a serious element of mystery to it where you just have to order the show to see the old ECW stars.

By far the best way to promote the show would be to just have Paul Heyman cut crazy promos about bringing it back for one night, it doesn't even matter what the storyline reason is, and announce a new match or two every week for a month. Maybe they could have him "buy ad time" like the nWo used to do too and show old footage of the wrestlers who are going to be involved in the show as well.

In all fairness The Sandman never was in the greatest shape. Speaking of Sandman is he even showing up?

As of like two months ago, someone (I think PwInsider) was reporting that Tommy Dreamer had contacted The Sandman to work the show, but nothing was ever reported on whether The Sandman agreed to work the show as far as I remember.

So who is going to be at the show anyways. I know Tommy Dreamer, Lance Storm and Super Crazy are all supposed to be there and have rumors of Jericho, Benoit, Malenko, Eddie & Rey but thats not really enough for a PPV.

Let's See who WWE has to offer for the ECW Show

Chris Benoit

Eddy Guerrero

Chris Jericho

Dean Melenko

Lance Storm

Mysterio

Balls Mahoney

Axl Rotten

Masato Tanaka

Dudleys

Spike

Taz

Al Snow

Mick Foley

Little Guido

Tracy Smothers

Justin Credible

Tajiri

Super Crazy

Psicosis

Tommy Dreamer

RVD(while injured can still play a role)

Joey Matthews(Mercury)

That's off the top of my head. I might be forgetting someone who is on the roster or was recently signed.

WWE has a better set of quality performers to offer then Shane Douglas's broken down horrible workers side of things.

Set up a good card, flushed with nostalgia and WWE will kill Shane's show.

There should be no WWE style matches at all. It should be pure ECW, sadly WWE are the ones putting it on.

It'll be a disaster. Few if any ECW fans watch the product anymore and they'll probably slap a $35 price tag on it. 50k buys at best.

This is just a horrible idea. The crowd they're trying to get are the ones that know that it'll be a watered down suckfest.

I think the smartest method would involve inserting commercials for the show ambush-style into WWE programming during May and June (think Taz vignettes before he debuted in WWE). Show old footage of the ECW stars, have Paul E run down the card with 'This Is Extreme' blaring in the background. Also, the announcers MUST no-sell these vignettes. However, if you have backstage vignettes involving wrestlers who will be there, you could have them kinda hint at it (they 'have plans that weekend' and won't be on their respective brand's house shows).

Yes, it's going to bomb.

But that's only because ECW was pretty damned horrid for its last 4 years. But since it's now owned by the WWE, it's inherent shittiness will finally be recognized by all of the blinded ECW fans.

Even though it will probably suck, I'm still going to order the PPV. Just because it's ECW and maybe it will be awesome.

Maybe.

problem is, just like their own product, they have the talent to pull off a good show but the inherant shittiness will likely leak through.

ECW with a slick production will be wrong.

unless dreamer and heyman have managed to obtain complete and total power, It's just gonna be a glorified telecasted house show using a select number of wrestlers.

Do you think Steve Austin will appear on the show? Advertising him to be there might add a little bit of a boost to the buyrate. If he were to appear I'd assume it would only be fore an in ring segment and maybe give a few stunners but a little participation from him is better than nothing I think.

Actually, that would be funny. Just have them see who can shotgun the most beers in a minute. It would be even more funny to see what they did if Sandman "shot" on Austin and actually drank more beer than him.

Paul E could 'sign' the Rock to one match at ECW One Night Stand, stating that since the WWE let him out of his contract the Rock is a free agent. I'm not sure about Rock doing an ECW style match but him being there would pop some buyrates.
