AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2005 After Advance Guardian Heroes, I'm skeptical (not the original team of course), but Astro Boy was very good. However, shouldn't the characters be a bit smaller than shown here? (Screenshots included) http://www.gccafe.com/news/media/staff/Images/gunstar.jpg
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 OH MY GOD. Prayers really do get answered! Gunstar Heroes is my favorite Genesis game ever, and one of my favorite games peiod. I tried it out after buying Mischief Makers, and Gunstar is just the purest form of fun. Gunstar Heroes is one of the few games I still feel childlike glee while playing, so if this sequel is even close to that good, I'll probably cream my pants. I just about did when I read the article. Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 Agreed. Gunstar was one of the best games to ever come out for the Genesis, and to see an updated version has caught my interest, to say the least.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I'm keeping my skepticism cap firmly on, especially since early reviews of AGH were quite positive. However, Gunstar's one of the handful of games that I still hold onto my Genesis for.

Special K 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 Treasure needs to make a collection. I've never been able to play Guardian Heroes or Radiant Silvergun, but I've enjoyed every game of theirs I've played. Gunstar Heroes, Bangai-O! and Astro Boy are all great. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2005 Here's an excellent new preview of the game. http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3140199 Save for the ugly Beyblade-looking new renditions of Red and Blue, looks like it's everything we could have hoped for.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2005 Awesome. There's also a 56 second long video of the game and a link to an article revisiting the original. I can't stand it any longer. I must play Gunstar Heroes again. What's a good Genesis emulator? Sadly, I don't own a copy of the game.

Check the recent "looking for a good emulator" thread for ROM site recommendations. And yeah, I personally feel Gunstar is the best Genesis game ever made, and it's one of the few reasons I still keep my Genesis around.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 Reminder-- Gunstar Super Heroes should be available tomorrow. I'd assumed 25th--but you know those ship dates, and recent wacky weather (at least in my area)... Hopefully I can pick it up and play a while before work. devo 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 Man, I'm surprised five and a half months went by without comment on the game. Definitely picking this up tomorrow (If I can find it). It'll be the first GBA game I've bought in a LONG time.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 Shit, maybe I should trade in one of my unopened Toys R Us games for credit. I forgot this game was coming out so soon. The original was, as I said before, one of my favorite games ever, and from what I played of the demo at E3, this is the exact same style.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2005 I suggest whoever intends on picking this up to do it ASAP. I just got my copy from EB--when they opened the new shipment there were a tone of Resident Evil 4s (PS2), Ratchet Deadlocked, Soul Calibur IIIs....and three Gunstar Super Heroes--which will be gone by the end of the day between me and the employees. Not sure if that's the exception or the rule nationwide. The game looks and feels incredible. While I would have compromised for Megadrive visuals in exchange for 2-player, considering it's a portable and such an opportunity would be rare, it's not that bad. So far--a simple introductory stage, then you pick which moon to tackle. Just started Moon 1, which has a starting sequence where you're standing on top of an airplane, barrel-rolling away from shots. Then it's a graphically souped-up version of the original Gunstar's 1st stage.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2005 Got my hands on it, beat it on Easy. The game's basically a remake of the original (with quite a few changes...I wanted to face Great Final Soldier and the M. Bison ripoff again, damn it), which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but since they advertised it as a sequel it's somewhat disappointing to not see much of anything new. Also, I really dislike how they completely changed and dumbed-down the weapons system. That being said, the game's still fun as hell. Plus, I marked out for the Flicky level. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2005 Got my hands on it, beat it on Easy.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> You *can't* be serious.... Play it on normal, foo. Seriously, though, try it. I'm having a bit of a rough time of it, but it's just the right mix of fun and frustration. Out of what I've played, I'd say it's about 1/3 new, 1/3 familiar but heavily remixed, and 1/3 VERY close to the original. The game looks better than most DS titles--I would love to see how well Treasure could work their magic on a DS game. and the M. Bison ripoff I noticed someone who looks just like him on the train right before you fight Seven Force. 1up has a feature on Treasure up, which subtly pisses on Gamefan (which is funny because they're barely on par with them most of the time). Truly the reviewers who hyped up Stretch Panic deserve mocking, but stuff like Gunstar and Yoshi's Island they tended to be on the money with.

Heh, you act like I'm done with the game now that I've beaten it. Just wanted to breeze through it the first time and see the whole thing before I challenged myself.
