Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 Well, from Wrestlemania 21, anyone who hasnt made the jump to DVD yet is a bit fucked, as WWE will stop producing any VHS versions of PPV's, biography tapes and so on, Backlash 2005 will be the first PPV to be released DVD only http://www.silvervision.co.uk/ Im curious tho, does anyone still buy VHS WWE events, I was in HMV the other day and they were selling off VHS stock they had to make room for DVD, and they had some cheap vids, PPV events and so on for only $3.99, but I didnt buy them cos I hate VHS

Guest news_gimmick Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I figured it would come to thsi eventually because the quality of the VHS had become really bad in the last couple of years. But overall I don't think it is much of a big deal.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I figured it would come to thsi eventually because the quality of the VHS had become really bad in the last couple of years. But overall I don't think it is much of a big deal. I agree. I bought a brand new PPV vid last year, and *right out of the sleeve* I was seeing lines and static. It's almost like they were recording them all in EP.
Guest news_gimmick Report post Posted April 21, 2005 Yep, last one I remember getting was Backlash 2001 on VHS and it was in that horrible EP quality. The audio was a joke and the screen terrible, so I knew then they were slowly going to phase out VHS. I think I had WrestleMania 2000 in EP as well and they edited it horribly too, so I can only imagine how bad VHS has been in the last 4 years or so.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 Besides the price, the only advantage is FFWDing through that "bodies have been bruised" yadda yadda "don't try this at home" crap that you *cannot* skip on DVD. I hate that. Earlier DVDs let you speed through it even though you can't skip it, but lately you can't even do that.

MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I stuck w/ VHS this whole time as far as ppvs go. Yeah, the quality on 90% is lackluster as they use EP except for a few in which they used SP for no rhyme or reason. I will miss not being able to pick up ppvs on VHS for $7.49 at FYE. The reason I haven't converted to dvds yet is that I feel like I'd be starting my collection over since I have 525+ commercial masters on VHS over the years. But oblahdee oblahdahh, Life Goes On. Yeah, the prices vary but if one picks up the release in the 1st week, it's usually discounted down to $10-11. But the last 4-6 months, they've been $8 . . . $7.50ish when my lil 5% off card comes into play. I'd be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts some of those tapes MAY be marked down when you take them to the regsiter.

Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 for some reason on my one dvd player I can skip the dont try this at home clip, yet on my ps2 I cant. anyhow, I still wonder why they stopped producing the vhs in sp. Its not like they can't they did it for years. They got cheap figuring everyone would buy dvd. I have the unforgiven 01 vhs and on the back it says its in ep, but its in sp go figure. No mercy 2001 I have and it is horrible. my wm2000 vhs (which I stupidly paid the srp price of 39.95 for back in 00) isnt that bad but wish I had the dvd (which is getting harder to find) add to this the wm20 vhs I heard cut out two matches for no apparant reason. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 add to this the wm20 vhs I heard cut out two matches for no apparant reason. Make that 4 matches . . . the 2 Tag Title Matches, CW Open, and Women's Title Match. Plus, all the hype videos are hacked outta there, except for UT/Kane. The quality is surprisingly good for EP though as they clipped the event down to 3 hours.

I've got a feeling they took a look at how much they actually made off of VHS tapes and just decided it wasn't worth the time to make them.
LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 About a year and a half ago, possibly 2 years ago, I went into FYE, which is where I buy a lot of WWE shows, and I was shocked to see that all the wrestling VHSes were moved to another location in the store, and where they usually were were all wrestling DVDs. Now there's virtually no wrestling VHSes left at that store, except at clearance prices (4-8 bucks or so).
Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I went up to Suncoast a couple fo weeks ago, and all they have for VHS now is one small section on the wall. I'm thinking that VHS is getting pahsed out in genral as a way to buy movies.
Guest JstnCrdbl4 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 Yea I work at a Target and as a whole the company just got rid of all VHS except for kid's movies, which are gonna go away in October. It upsets all the old people.
foleyfanforever88 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I found a way to skip through the "Dont Try This At Home" part on the Royal Rumble 05 DVD..when the ad for the NYR DVD starts, skip back a scene and it will take you to the last bonus feature on the disk. From there you can go right to the menu. It's only gonna save you a few seconds though.. I guess you can do the same on any DVDs where there is something before the Dont Try This part

geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 What I always thought would be a funny "fuck you" to the internet community would be if WWE would make all HHH matches like the service announcement on DVDs. I could just picture some smark trying to ff through a HHH match, and then hilarity insues as he or she finds out it is impossible.
foleyfanforever88 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 next time you put in a WWE DVD with someone else that wants to watch it, secretly use the repeat function so that the Dont Try This At Home part loops indefinitely until they figure out how to stop it

Don't try this at home In case you missed the oversized one. That's because they don't want you to make a don't try this at home video. When I first saw that, I was in awe as to all the stuff on there. Then I went and tried to belly-to-belly my cousin through a window. I guess that video didn't work.
