Well, I decided(Actully, my bitch ass father decided) that I will attend community college for full two years in Los Angles instead of staying here in the most boring place ever, San Jose. I heard that community college is harder then going to a 4- year college, Is that true? And is there any posters here that attend a community college?

I showed up for class drunk or high most of the time.

I went to a university. My brother failed out of community college twice.

 

I urge you not to read too much into that, though - he wasn't really "college material." Most of my friends and wrestling buddies agree that the local community colleges are pretty much high school redux - it's just that one of them back home had a great wrestling team and so attracted a lot of athletes.

Basically, the first two years of college, whether you go to a university or not, are exactly the same thing, high school revisited.

 

Financially speaking, it's a good idea unless you can afford it or got a free ride on a scholarship to a university. Otherwise, it's basically the same shit. You might get teachers making the classes easier for dumber students often, though, which is apparently what happens most of the time.

 

I just finished up my time at THE NATION'S LARGEST AND MOST PROMINENT COMMUNITY COLLEGE (or so they claim) at Miami-Dade.

Actually, since community college and college are pretty much the same the first two years, its not a bad idea at all if you want to save some money. I went to community college for 2 years before transferring to a 4-year school and will only be about $10K in debt when I graduate next May. Of course, I'm hoping to go to law school in 2006 too so I'll be more in debt after that...

Does it count as a mark against me that I took a computer class that had a lot of online things (such as being able to take the quizes over and over until a certain time) and I got a C in it?

 

Sure, I use the net a lot, but by the end, I didn't really want to do stuff like looking up digital cameras and all that stuff. Plus, I was pretty much in a daze for the class, I barely took any notes, I probably did more work checking up on my fantasy football team than on notes.

 

I got an A and two Bs in my other classes

 

the other classes were..

 

an English class (which was good for having good looking women in it, and I think I put together a quick research paper for an A. I swear, I didn't spend much time on it and it was on the Saudis and 9/11 and all that stuff)

 

an American Politics class (which wasn't too challenging)

 

a class called "Native Americans in Contemporary Society" (which got me two important credits [writing intensive/cultural diversity]. Of course the woman teaching it was married to a native American. And the speaker that came in around the time we had a fooddrive as the 'final' did have some unique points of view on FreeMasons and the FBI. That class was also helped out by good looking women)

 

Basically, I can really halfass things if I don't care.

 

Oh yeah, two of my first semester finals were sorta-optional. I chose not to take the computer one and I could have avoided the English one, but it was a short scantron test. The third final was basically a food drive for an Indian Reservation, and I didn't donate anything.

 

Do I lose something in the experience since I don't smoke or drink?

oh yeah, Community Colleges are like High School, but with less bullshit.

 

High Schools keep you in the class until the end. There's people who really don't want to be there. There's more noise.

 

And the place i'm going involves kids getting out whenever, people also have a reason to care and there's not as much noise in the place.

 

That's one set of differences.

He wants me to stay in San Jose for CC, but he keeps telling me we're moving right after I graduted(FYI: I Just move here about 8 months ago, why? Because he got remarried after 2 years my mom died, and he met this chick over the internet and known her personally for only 4 months before they got married).

 

Anyway, I could still get in some 4 year colleges like Grambling State University(Which is cheap), Alcorn State(Which Is also cheap), and La Verne College is showing some interest in me. But I do want to enroll in University Of Miami(FL), so I guess going to A community ain't that bad.

 

But I want to attened one in LA, and dude might get offended by that. He keep telling me my sisters(who still live in the house that we live in before we moved here) might get kick out of our house in LA and I'll have no place to stay. But I have a bunch of family out there that will love for me to stay with them.

It's essentially the same classes. You don't study anything major-specific, just the same English, Science, Math, History/Social Studies type thing for a while. That's whether you're at a CC or at a Uni. Doesn't make a difference.

 

I got all my general ed out of the way at Miami Dade, then will finish up my major at a private arts school in downtown at a fraction of the price had I just started there.

I was actually making fun of you because I thought your gripe was that your dad was insisting you go to college at all while you didn't want to, when in fact I now see that you just want to to go to an actual university and not deal with a weak community college and his internet honey. So, actually, knowing this, your dad is an asshole, but I really mean it this time.

 

Also, I'm with Mole here. Unless you're living with your parents and get out of absolutely zero area requirements (i.e., what you'd be doing if you were going to a community college), the 4-year college experience is wildly different from going to a community college.

I'm going to Community College right now. Transfering in a short while.

 

Luckily, nearly everyone I hang out goes to the college up the road 15 miles, so I still get to the "big boy" parties, which actually suck sometimes because you may be in a small ass town house with forty frat boys huddled around a keg. You need some elbow room to properly party.

 

Meanwhile, Comm College in general is like high school. It's much less chaotic and there aren't any cliques.

 

Difficulty-wise...it just depends on where you're attending class...also it's a matter of laziness and if you the passion to get through school.

A coworker of mine is at a community college and was having trouble with her math homework.

 

My sister, a Jr. in High school, was able to solve all the problems for her.

I've actually considered going to college recently. Of course, I don't know what the hell I'm going to major in, or anything like that. Not to mention I don't know if I would take it seriously and if I would just be happy to be back and socialize with people so.

 

So I'm stuck at a supermarket dealing with asshole customers and may be working at UPS soon because like I said, I can't deal with asshole customers.

Did you already get accepted to University of Miami? If thats where you really want to be and cant afford it, go to Miami-Dade like Vitamin X did.
