Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 At the conclusion of last night's Edge/Venis match, Edge locks Venis in the sharpshooter and JR rambles on saying "This leg lock that Edge has perfected" when it was the freaking sharpshooter! It wasn't the Edge-a-cator (the real submission move Edge uses) Edge didn't perfect shit!
Guest JMA Report post Posted April 26, 2005 JR also called the Edgecution "the Impaler" (the original name for the move). Of course, that name does sound a lot better.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 I'm guessing he was saying that it is a move he has perfected for himself as part of his arsenal, not that he took a move Bret Hart made famous and made it better...
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 No, I'm guessing JR didn't notice that Edge was trying to use the sharpshooter, although to be fair I didn't either. It looked like shit, and you really couldn't tell what he was doing.
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 I think JR just fucked up, not realizing that Edge was going through a sequence of Benoit moves. The light went on for JR when Edge locked in the crossface.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 In case you didn't notice, JR & Lawler don't put as much effort into it as they used to. Cole & Tazz probably would have called it properly.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 He probably thought Edge was going to do his verison of the Sharpshooter, and then as someone said, once he did the Crossfade, JR caught on.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 JR also confuses Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit on a daily basis. On a totally un-related note...Anyone remember Tony Shiavone always calling Chuck Palumbo.."Chuck Palumby"?

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted April 26, 2005 JR's just a terrible announcer these days. The Benoit/Jericho thing is very noticable considering he still does it after they've been in the company 5 years. I think it's just the fact that he doesn't give a crap about 90% of what goes on and only bothers to do a good job for his "boys".
Guest nokia Report post Posted April 26, 2005 Jim "Hyperbole" Ross needs to retire asap....Batista calling him the greatest of all time is a slap in the face of Gordon Sollie.... I just wished Heyman caould sit alongside King and correct him every chance he'd get
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 it looked more like a combination cloverleaf/sharpshooter.

I think it's just the fact that he doesn't give a crap about 90% of what goes on and only bothers to do a good job for his "boys". I actually think it's a combination of burnout and the lack of an analyst who can break down moves. Lawler is good at getting a story across (as long as it doesn't involve chicks), but he don't know moves. For Raw, a third guy (call Snow back up?) might actually be a good idea. syxx2001 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 I remember in WCW whenever there was a luchadore match Mike Tenay would come out and do commentary and leave. Or he might stay, dont remember. Thats what you talkin bout starvenger? And am I the only one who hates when there is a match going on and the commentators neglect it. They did it alot in WCW and Im pretty sure they still do it on Heat and Velocity. Dunno about Raw and Smackdown, but Im sure they do. Like I was watching a Nitro and it was Harlem Heat vs The Steiners in the main event and they are brawling, fighting and going on, and Tony and Bobby are talking about the fucking nWo and how strong they are and what WCW needed the night before at Uncensored and a bunch of junk. I think it takes away from the match as you are telling the fans "Hey, these guys are dipshits. Listen to what we have to say about Hogan/Triple H/Kane/whoever" then every 20 seconds they go "Big powerslam by Booker T. But like I was saying yadayada". Has it always been like that or was it something that just easied its way into the norm like camera in the locker room and sluts who cant wrestle?

Heh; I'm old enough to remember when Ross was a good play-by-play man... at the risk of sounding disrespectful, did the stroke cause him to forget how to call moves? Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 If Edge was from Oklahoma, a former football player or Steve Austin i'm sure JR would bother to learn his moves correctly, unless a wrestler fits into one of the above categories JR hardly sems to care anymore, and hasn't for a long time. You know the funny thing is, they were actually talking about HHH during the Edge and Venis match just a little during Raw. I just wished Heyman caould sit alongside King and correct him every chance he'd get You have no idea how much I miss Heyman's commentary but the problem here would be, King and Heyman would never get along. It would be gold to hear Heyman just start owning King on the headset but it would never happen. Plus I thing JR still hates Heyman on a personal level and I don't think he even wanted Heyman there in the first place. But man was I pist when Lawler came back to Raw after the invasion angle and kicked Heyman off the table and commentary has never been the same again for me. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 yknow I didnt even realzie that he was using the actual sharpshooter til now, I suppose the boring raw episode had me nearly on dreamstreet.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 JR just had it confused with that modified sharpshooter-type move that Edge has been using as a finisher (not sure if they've even given it a name yet), and I think that was understandable because Edge didn't even have the sharpshooter properly locked onto Venis, as far as I could tell.
