Cena gets boo'ed when Christian name drops him in MSG (and got a good pop as well), and now gets boo'ed in the country that will eat anything up? Maybe JBL WAS an over world champion and everyone's pissed off he lost?

justcoz 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 They neutered Cena's character with the babyface turn, just like they typically do when they turn an "over" heel into a face. What once got cheered because it came off edgey in an Eminem sense is now getting booed because it's campy in a Marky Mark or Vanilla Ice kind of way. The face turn took away his excellent mic work as a heel, when his raps weren't campy and an excuse to call another wrestler a homo. I also think his weakness in the ring is more exposed now as a babyface. If they insist on running with the hip hop character, turn him tweener and let him go back to what he was doing in 2003-early 2004. He wasn't getting booed at MSG at the time of Wrestlemania 20 but they cut his balls off from him in time for him to be booed at the same arena one year later. I say, drop the hip hop shtick and just let him act like a thug from Boston. He has the acting ability to be serious when required and it was a nice touch he added to his character leading into Mania. It's not enough though.
gWIL 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 Sounds like another good Smackdown. But why must they turn their must over face heel? Why?
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted April 26, 2005 Because turning Rey Mysterio would be even dumber? Eddie has natural heel charisma. Keeping him as a baby kissing face who can't even cheat to win anymore has hurt his appeal.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 26, 2005 Thing is, I don't think it'll work. Fans like Eddy. Now, if they have him, say, rape kittens --- then you might have some heel heat. -=Mike
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 I wouldve much rather seen Rey as the heel in this feud. I liked Rey as the creepy little prick heel that he was when in the Filthy Animals. I enjoyed him in that role, and would have rather seen it get tried again. WWE just continues to make more and more mistakes, and this one could possibly ruin Eddy's career. I guess we'll have to wait a couple weeks and see how the crowds react.

ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Eddy slammed Tajiri through a windshield and he still got cheers. I can't see this turn sticking. Difference is though I think Rey is more over than Tajiri was. Plus, Eddie and Rey seem more close than Eddie and Tajiri were...even if Tajiri started the whole Lowrider thing for Eddie. There was a huge, 'Eddie Sucks' chant. I don't doubt that that can happen again. But then Rey had to go and fuck it up by hitting him back...but yea.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 27, 2005 I wish the WWE would realize that building up a guy like Paul London is not done by having him lose by countout to the former champ he never pinned for the belt. -=Mike

He got one of the biggest reactions in forever at MSG last week, and he's been REALLY, REALLY, over for ages now. I remember when Eddie was Champ every house show report said Cena got the biggest reaction of the night. I think this is more a one time thing then a representation of a trend. I'm betting this is just a one time thing. People on this board have been saying he's stale now for quite a while, but it just doesn't seem to translate into the real world. But hey, thanks for the in depth analysis.

Guest JMA Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Eddie turning heel is SUCH a huge mistake. I hope it bombs. I think it will. Same here. Why would they turn one of their most over faces heel? Do they not like his overness or something? Because that's just not logical.

You obviously didn't read the comment (maybe 3 posts from the top) on RAW when Christian cut a promo on 3 people, he name dropped "John Cena" and the crowd quite obviously were yelling "Boo!". I also forgot the crowd cheered Christian calling him a Marky Mark wanna-be.
BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Detailed results spliced together from a few different sites: VELOCITY (1) The Bashams beat Scotty Too Hotty and Shannon Moore. (2) Funaki & Nunzio beat Akio & Kidman. (3) Orlando Jordan beat Charlie Haas. Orlando won with his STF finisher. SMACKDOWN The show started with Carlito's Cabana. Carlito got a good reception, which continued when he insulted the royal family (including a picture of Charles and Camilla on the big screen). He brought out Kurt Angle, who insulted the UK until he was interrupted by Steve Lewington in Union Jack tights. He wanted to go for the Angle Invitational challenge. Angle said he didn't want to risk injury before the fatal 4 way, then attacked the him from behind. After an ankle lock ended the encounter, Carlito spat apple in the Lewington's face. Torrie Wilson came out to be guest ring announcer for the first match. (1) Chavo Guerrero beat Cruiserweight Champion Paul London by countout. When London went to the top rope, Chavo pushed him and London hit the ringpost on his way over the top. He was injured and counted out. Chavo celebrated with the title until the referee took it back and informed Torrie that titles can't change hands on a count out. Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio had a long backstage segment. Eddie told Rey that the only thing he cared about more the wrestling business was his familia - including Rey. Before Rey could respond, Chavo intervened and told Eddie that Rey wasn't his familia, Chavo is. They will always be Guerreros. Eddie told Chavo off, saying that Rey was more of a brother to him than his own brother, Rey was always there for the tag etc. Rey also told Chavo to get lost. Eddie and Rey made up, with Rey saying he knew Eddie's heart was 100% in the right place. (2) MNM beat Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. This was a long one, and gave visuals that will probably be repeated on Smackdown for several weeks to come. During a melee brawl, Eddie was knocked to the outside. He stayed down for a while and then staggered away from ringside. Meanwhile, Rey fought off both of MNM. As Rey set up for the 619, he noticed Eddie leaving. The distraction let MNM regain the advantage. Eddie looked conflicted, but returned to the corner as the crowd chanted for him. The cameras kept going back to Eddie in the corner, he looked tortured. But he wouldn't make the tag to Rey, or come in to help him. The crowd began to chant "Eddie sucks!" MNM kept looking at Eddie expecting him to intervene, but he never did, and eventually Mercury and Nitro were too much for Rey and they pinned him. After the match, Guerrero just stayed in the corner as they continued to beat on Rey. After the tag champs left, Latino Heat looked at Rey for a while and then slowly walked away, as Mysterio - down and hurt outside the ring - reached out for him. Rey was crying as Eddie left. As Booker T spoke to his wife backstage, Heidenreich appeared and said he wasn't there to fight. Instead, he had a poem. It was about Booker winning the fatal 4 way main event. When Heidenreich finished, Sharmell said she can dig that. As the T's left, Heidenreich celebrated making two friends tonight. (3) John Cena beat Rene Dupree. The crowd popped massively for Cena, though during the match there were some rather loud "Cena Sucks" chants. Standard match between these two, quite quick. The FU finished it. Cena then went into the crowd. In a backstage promo, JBL said he was going to win the four-way match and everywhere he went the people wanted to chant his name - and we did. He repeated that he is a wrestling... God. The crowd filled in the "God" part when he paused for effect. He ignored it rather than responding to it a la heel Rock. Big Show joined him, belittling JBL's recent form. Show said JBL is on a losing streak, and it would continue tonight. (4) Matt Morgan beat Mikey Whiplash in a squash match. Short match finishing with Morgan's suplex-into-something move. The making of Cena's new music video for the song "Bad Bad Man" was shown. It's a cheesy retro thing, including Gary Coleman, and Cena as Hannibal from the A Team. There's a Mr. T character too. The video itself premieres next week on Smackdown. Chimel announced the Smackdown brand house shows in June, Austin's name got a big pop. (5) JBL defeated Kurt Angle and Big Show and Booker T in a Fatal Four-Way match. From the beginning of the match, Big Show dominated. Eventually, Angle got him with an Angle Slam. It got a one-count. Booker's scissor kick got a two-count. The Clothesline from Hell almost got a three-count. They took Show outside the ring and Angle Slammed him through the announcers table. Show was eliminated by count-out. Next, JBL and Angle double-teamed Booker until he fought back with the kicks of doom. When Orlando tried to bring in a chair for JBL, the referee chased OJ off - all the way down the aisle. Angle got the chair and whacked Booker, which gave him the pin. The Bashams ran in to help him and were German Suplexed by Kurt. JBL pinned Angle to win after Booker T returned and hit him with a chair.
