This Week in Baseball

Recommended Posts

An interesting matchup of young pitchers tonight in Detroit as Jeremy Bonderman faces Pawtucket call-up Jeremi Gonzalez. Ok, so Gonzalez is 30, but still....

Juan Rincon suspended 10 games for steroids...

Thank god baseball's stringent and fair testing is catching such notorious perpetrators as Juan Rincon and Alex Sanchez, forcing them to clean up their act and preserve baseball's cherished records.

Orioles are playing 6 against the Blue Jays and Royals. I fully expect their win streak to be at 14 in a row by the end of the week. :P

Atleast Rincon is somewhat important to his team's success. But yeah I know what you mean.

I disagree. Halladay will stop the O's 10 game streak Wednesday afternoon. But they will win tonight, roughing up Chacin, and Towers tomorrow. Sweeping the Royals? No problem.

I've heard a rumor from someone on an O's board that knows someone in the Cubs FO that the Cubs are trying to pawn him off to Baltimore. Don't know how legit it is. What, are we the official dumping ground now for washed up, disgruntled Cubs? Will Dusty Baker be coaching from our bench soon too? :P

The Phillies have a three man bench tonight, as Lofton and Thome are out with day-to-day injuries. However, we won't DL either player just yet. Jesus, if Ed Wade were on the Titanic, he would still be in his stateroom, debating on whether he should still order room service. This organization never makes a move before it is two months to late.

Andy Phillips run as a starter has probably run out, as he goes for the platinum sombrero, with 5 Ks. I want him to stay up, but I doubt they'll keep him up much longer.

Damnit.  WHY did I turn off that game?!

I was watching Raw, and flipping between that (some) and Yahoo. Combination of Weathers and Graves.

2 walks, single, bases loaded, no outs

Pujols grounded into fielders choice - 4

Reggie Sanders single - 5

Edmonds home run - 8

Mark Gruz doubles, Mabry HR - 10

Al, you must have statistical proof that graves is the worst closer in baseball.

Yeah, the Reds drove a rusty railroad spike into my heart tonight, yep.

Don't speak the name Danny Graves to me for awhile.

I have statistical proof that the leading team will hold a seven run lead 99% of the time, even if Bryan Reker is on the mound.

The lost fact here is that if Pujols didn't hustle out the double play ball...DOWN 6, the game would be over. Somebody like Raul Mondesi and that's your ballgame.

Interesting.

Cano at 2nd, Wolmack in left, Matsui in CF.

RJs out of his next start due to a minor groin injury, which is explained as "if it were a REALLY big game, he'd pitch" and double A pitcher Sean Penn is being called up to make the start.

This is something out of the twilight zone.

Of all the great ideas to help teams win pennant, I never placed "Play Womack in LF" among the top.

Thank god they pulled Lieber as 79 pitches is obviously his limit.

Seriously, is having Offerman up with David Bell on 2nd and 2 outs in a tie freaking game worth pulling Lieber when there have only been 2 good arms in the bullpen this year (and you don't even use Madson)?

Man, what a wild one in Cincy. A lot of people are overlooking the fact that Dunn K'd with the bases full in the 8th inning. At the time, it just seemed like, "oh well, no icing on the cake." But as it turned out, a huge part of the game. And Sean Casey's defense is really what cost them the game. Graves sucks, but the game is over if Casey makes one of the two botched plays leading up to the takeover.

Watching the Cards makes me that much more depressed to be a Cubs fan, because even when they're down two or three, I feel all hope is loss. Their insistence on always scoring via the longball has made what we saw in Cincy tonight an absolute pipedream.

And at this point, I'm numb to the Kerry Wood thing. I've given up hope that he'll ever be real healthy, so the Cubs should build around that fact if they are going to keep him.

Orioles' streak is over. The Jays' bullpen is proving they're quite underrated -- only 3 earned runs in their last 20 2/3 innings.

The Jays seem to alternate between being awesome and being terrible every couple of weeks.

But yeah, this certainly isn't last year's pen. Chacin is really doing well too.
