Cubs are ass at hitting with RISP. To illustrate how bad things are, since Monday night, they've scored one run not related to the longball. And that was from a pinch-hitter I forgot was even on the roster. I smell seven in a row.

The White Sox scored 10 runs in the first four innings, bailing out Jon Garland's poor 6th inning to win a 10-7 game. Konerko hit two home runs (5 RBI), with Iguchi, Rowand, and Uribe also hitting longballs. Garland won his 6th despite giving up 6 runs in 5 2/3 innings. The Sox seem to win in different ways almost every game, either with a bunch of home runs, earning RBI with walks, or stealing bases and getting clutch hits. They're 23-7 now, and I'm very fortunate to be able to watch most of their games, because it's really fun to watch a team that works hard and gets results early in the season. Hopefully it continues.

Brian Roberts homered in the first to give the O's a 1-0 lead over the Royals.

 

That's now 9 homeruns and 28 RBI on the season and his average is still above .370. Granted, I think those numbers will go down some as the season continues, but Roberts' season so far can't just be attributed to a hot streak anymore.

Brian Roberts hit his ninth home run of the season, more than doubling his 2004 total and the O's lead 1-0 after two innings of play.

 

If the pitching can stay solid and the bats strong, it might not be impossible for Baltimore to hang around till September in the hunt for the East. If Cabera and Ponson could become more consistent and actually pitch strong then the O's might be in business.

Yes it can. Derrek Lee is still hitting above .400 with nine homers and 32 RBIs and that certainly won't remain the case. If Roberts is still hitting this way in late June, then we'll talk.

Josh Beckett is on tonight - painting corners and dropping the 12-6 curve wherever he wants it. If you want to see good pitching and you can watch this game... I'd recommend finding it.

The Cardinals losing three games straight to the Padres is not a good look. Today it was Carpenter, but for most of this season (Especially since Izzy got hurt) this bullpen has been atrocious. When Taravez is your best pitcher in the pen (When Izzy is out) you know you're in trouble.

I said I think his numbers will come down but I'd bet on him sending the season still with above average numbers. He has had a couple of 2 or 3 game stretches where he has done nothing, only to bounce back with a few multi hit games. He's cooled down a lot since the start of the season but is still putting up consistent numbers. I would be surprised if he hit .370 all season and continued on this homerun pace, but I'll be equally surprise if his numbers still don't end up being very strong.
