Shanghai Kid Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I have some money to blow, and I'm set on buying some Simpsons on DVD. I love the show now, but wasn't really into it back in the 90's. I already have season 2, which was decent, but nowhere near as fast paced or funny as the shows I'm used to seeing. So what season should I buy next? 3, 4, or 5? From what I've heard, season 4 is one of if not the best seasons of the show ever, and I mark for Conan O Brien. I'm leaning towards that, mainly cause I'm worried season 3 might be too much like season 2 (too sappy, not much satire, too Bart oriented). So taking into accout I'm looking for the most hilarious season possible and am not really worried about getting the seasons in order, is 4 the right choice?
King Cucaracha Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 3, 4 and 5 are all prime Simpsons seasons. Season 4 is probably the best season. Season 3 is still family based for the mostpart so you might not get into it that quickly and Season 5 is where the plots start getting a little more adventurous (Burns building the casino, Homer in space and in a barbershop quartet for example). You can't really go wrong with any of the three though.

Having said that, I'd get season 5, then 4, then 3 ... but I'm guessing most people would choose 4 before 5. I'd choose 5 because I'm a huge mark for Homer Goes to College; Last Temptation of Homer; Homer the Vigilante; Homer Loves Flanders; and the gambling episode. Season 5 might be my favorite season of the entire series.
4hartthreat Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I say go with 5. Season 3 is an improvement over season 2, but I am of the opinion that the show didn't really hit its stride until season 4. As said above, season 5 is a little more Homer based and I believe that is what you are looking for. With all that being said, you should really get all of them, because even season 1, while not up to simpsons standards, is still better than most tv shows.

Season 4 has Marge vs the Monorail, Last Exit to Springfield, Whacking Day, and Homer the Heretic. Season 5 has Cape Feare, Rosebud, $pringfield, and Burns' Heir. In the end it's pretty much a tossup as all three of the seasons are when the show really hit its prime.

They started going into the more whacky storylines by this point, but they were still extremely funny. It is odd that this is the first season after the initial staff's contracts ran out. 4, 5 & 6 are the big three as far as I'm concerned.
