edotherocket Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Rockstar to release Bully for PS2 and Xbox this October Grand Theft Auto publisher Rockstar Games has just announced the first details of PS2 and Xbox school-'em-up Bully. The game - the first from Rockstar Vancouver - is set in the schoolyard and promises to combine "innovative, original gameplay with humorous tongue-in-cheek storytelling". Players take the unlikely role of a troublesome schoolboy, who must stand up to bullies, gets picked on by teachers, plays pranks on other kids, tries his luck with the laydeez and ultimately learns to navigate the obstacles of the reform school Bullworth Academy. "We are really excited about the first title to be developed by our Rockstar Vancouver studio," said Rockstar boss Sam Houser. "We fought hard to keep this title under wraps for ages and I am thrilled that we can finally unveil it to people at E3." Bully coder Rockstar Vancouver was formerly known as Barking Dog Studios and employs around 100 developers. While this is its first game under the Rockstar umbrella, as Barking Dog it worked on Global Operations, Homeworld Cataclysm and Treasure Planet for PC along with Transworld Skateboarding for Xbox. I can't even remember the last time there was a school-themed videogame. Sounds interesting but I can't say I've played any other game that Barking Dog Studios has made before.
AndrewTS Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I'm surprised nobody has posted a thread about The Warriors. GI had it as a cover story, but it actually sounds interesting--an updated take on the Beat 'em up genre (based on the old movie, of course). The obvious joke here is if they'll permit a school shooting, but it's honestly what you'd expect from Rockstar, even though they're not developing it. This is rather vague on what exactly type of game it is. School sim I guess? Sounds kind of weird and boring.
Guest Fook Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Sounds like it might be a "GTA in the schoolyard" type deal where your character get different missions to do (prank a teacher, steal this kid's lunch money, etc.) and gains or loses reputation with certain people.
The Amazing Rando Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I did a thread a while back detailing a GTA style game with Hide N Seek and stuff as the primary objectives...no clue where that thread is now and i'm too lazy to go look for it...i remember it got positive feedback though.
Black Lushus Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I was hoping it'd be a game about getting stoned all the time and fucking skinny coked up hos only to get wacked by all your buddies...
dubq Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 *waits for the impending 'I hate Rockstar and their marketing tactics' post from AndrewTS*
Guest El Satanico Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 This is going to start a shit storm with parent and religous groups. They should get Marilyn Manson to do the soundtrack, since his music always seems to get linked to school shootings.

I concur, the republican sect and the religionITES will be all over this like a cheap suit.
Black Lushus Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 is that a bad thing, though? this idea has lame written all over it...
Brett Favre Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 "Brain Damage" by Eminem should be the theme for a game like this; like "Welcome To The Jungle" by Guns N' Roses was for GTA: VC.
AndrewTS Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 *waits for the impending 'I hate Rockstar and their marketing tactics' post from AndrewTS* God forbid I dislike companies bribing magazines to get 9+'s for their games.
Ravenbomb Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I was hoping it'd be a game about getting stoned all the time and fucking skinny coked up hos only to get wacked by all your buddies... thought the exact same thing when I saw the thread title
dubq Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 *waits for the impending 'I hate Rockstar and their marketing tactics' post from AndrewTS* God forbid I dislike companies bribing magazines to get 9+'s for their games. That's why ya don't read the magazines. You'd be surprised at how many other companies already do that.
Downhome Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I know this is an old thread, over a year old, but I figured that I'd go ahead and post all of this in here since there's a Bully thread already: IGN Review - 8.9 GameTrailers Video Review - 8.1 out of 10 Game Informer - 8.5 out of 10 GamePro - 4.5 out of 5 Games Radar - 9 out of 10 GameBrink - 92 out of 100 1UP - 10 out of 10 I just ordered this in the Family Video deal for $30.98 so I hope that I really enjoy it.
AndrewTS Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 *waits for the impending 'I hate Rockstar and their marketing tactics' post from AndrewTS* God forbid I dislike companies bribing magazines to get 9+'s for their games. IGN Review - 8.9 GameTrailers Video Review - 8.1 out of 10 Game Informer - 8.5 out of 10 GamePro - 4.5 out of 5 And over a year later, it seems that R* didn't fill the moneyhats afterall, because the game was able to get by on its own merits, and we didn't get 9+ scores. Plus, just like we knew last year, the content is extremely tame, and JT knew jack about the game.
bobobrazil1984 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 honestly the game looks pretty good. This is a good environment for the GTA-style free roaming style. However, I have too many games on tap to play between FF13, Okami, RE4, and MGS3, so it will be a while until I get to this.

bobobrazil1984 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Doc lent me his Delorean. (or I may have meant 12)
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I will say Okami is a terrific game. But this isnt the thread for it. I also intend to pick up Bully, but I have to wait to deposit my checks.
Guest Hotbutter Spoontoaster Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I'm getting Bully, but I'm waiting until Sunday, for Toys "R" Us' sale.
Guest Hotbutter Spoontoaster Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 And for just $10 extra dollars, you can get the "Collector's Edition"...
AndrewTS Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Mayhaps I posted a bit soon. Seriously? I doubt that.
Downhome Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I got the game today. After I play it for a little while, I'll post a few things about it.
Downhome Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Ok, I just found a little bulldog running around, and I think you're supposed to (or you just can) play frisbee with it, but instead I attacked it. I grabbed it by the head, then punched it right in the neck. I couldn't believe it. This game is awesome, there's a lot of stuff to do in it besides punching innocent dogs in the neck.
TheTomster Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I'm probably getting this for Christmas, I had thought it was coming out in December and I reserved SD vs RAW 07 instead because I thought it was gonna be less wait time but I was wrong
Guest bushwickray Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 this Game is great. There is so much to do. However I cannot NOT see Parents getting pissed off at this game. Trust me, any game that lets you beat up nerds is gonna have trouble Buy it now. There is gonna be trouble up ahead. Also Justice Leauge Heros an Family guy are excellent as well. This was a great 2 days for games

Craig Th Posted October 19, 2006 Report Posted October 19, 2006 This game is way too easy, no where near as tough as GTA.
