Comics Inventory?

So I'm trying to organize all of my comics that got mixed up when I moved and it occurred to me that there has to be a better way of keeping track of my books than writing down a list on the back of a longbox.

 

Does anyone here know of a good inventory program (like the ones they use for DVD's)? If not, how do you keep track of what comics you own?

I don't think there's a program online, not that I know of anyway.

 

What I do, is I keep a list on my computer of all the comics I own and what longbox there in (I number them) and I keep a hard copy that I take to comic shops with me, so if I'm not sure I have an issue, I can check and not waste money on buying doubles.

I thought I saw one advertised on Newsarama once, but if you don't mind the legwork just do it on Excel. Good way to learn the app if you don't know how to use it, too.

As for creating my own list, I was planning on using Access and creating a database so I can create a nice looking report (and in this case I prefer Access to Excel). I'm just lazy enough that I was hoping someone did the work for me.

There actually is a commercial comic collection tracker called Comicsbase. Has all the collection management features and stuff. Unfortunately, it doesn't really help me since I have a Mac .

I just came across another online inventory site, www.stashmycomics.com. Basically it has the same features of dComics but looks a little glossier. It doesn't give you the options to search by writer/artist though.

 

I use Guzzlefish.com for my CDs/DVDs and I wish they would add a comics section.

I was playing around with stashmycomics and it actually lets you export your list into Excel with all the title, issue, price, artist, writer, etc.

Back when I was really big into comics I actuall spent money on a some comic book catologger program. I can't remember what is was called but I loved it. It had the option of putting a picture for the cover as well as awesome things like graphs and charts showing different useless imformation about your collection like how many books you have written by what authors and drawn by what artists, how many books certain character appear in, and lots of cool stuff like that. Wished I could remember what it was called, though. The company that made it also had programs for keepig track of your music, book, and dvd collections, too.
