Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 With "24" off until next year and Raw going back to it's cruddy self, I went and Tivo'd the first episode of "Hell's Kitchen". Man, was this show funny, that is if you like to watch a rowdy Scot berate people who think they can cook. I know Fox is catering to the Simon Cowell fanbase by having a foreign person verbally assault hopefuls in *insert industry here*, but man was the lead chef guy entertaining. It doesn't get any better than the lead chef telling one of the contestents his signature dish looks like a dehydrated camel turd to his face. Folks should give it a shot. starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 I'm commenting about this show in my IP column on Saturday, but basically, Gordon Ramsay is great, everything else about the show is crap. They've taken the "Apprentice" format and shoehorned it into a show for wannabe chefs, who apparently don't actually get to learn anything about cooking. To see a better show with a foul-mouthed celebrity chef, watch Jamie's Kitchen.
Guest Report post Posted June 1, 2005 Gordon Ramsay is hilarious, and in the first episode I love how he told the women to go back to plastic surgery. The rest of the show is awful, but watching Gordon is enough to keep me entertained.
dubq 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2005 I can't believe there's a guy named Dewberry on this show - who also has a woman's voice.
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 This is the only reality show that has caught my attention in YEARS. Just watching the chaos, the rambling and tearing apart of the customers...had me entertained. I had to flip back and forth during RAW just to watch this...lol
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 My favorite part of the first episode is when Gordon Ramsey tells the impatient blonde plastic women to shut the fuck up for 30 seconds, and then when their friend comes back to ask for an apology, Ramsey tells them he meant it and has the maitre'd escort them back to plastic surgery! Classic. Greatest reality TV moment I've seen in years.

Ramsey is great, and underlines that there is no need to add a "competition" aspect to the show. Just have Gordon train these wannabes, keep the "restaurant", and roll cameras. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Excellent observation, starvenger. I think Fox is sort of like WWE Creative in that they have to have the same TV template and cliches. Gordon Ramsey is good enough to move the show on his own, they don't need the gimmick of the competition and such. WWE continues to have the same style show as the Attitude era and the product is stale because it's the same old, same old. Start with 15 minute promo in the first 30 minutes somewhere to guide the rest of the show along with backstage skits where the wrestlers don't acknowledge there is a camera crew there. That was innovative in 1998 and such, but now it's old hat. Same with this show in that we don't need 2 teams and interviews from the contestants about how they felt about certain situations and then there is the goofy elimination ceremony where they hook the apron of the newly departed cast member. Give me something new and refreshing, please. Somewhere. Anywhere.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Sometimes it seems like Fox has no fucking clue when it comes to, well, any type of show. It's just blatantly apparent with reality shows.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Well, even though I can't get the American version, the British original (which was about a year ago I think) was entertaining. I doubt they've tweaked the formula at all, seeing as they didn't with The Weakest Link, American (Pop) Idol, WWTBAM etc. What's better though is the program he does over here now, Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares...where he goes to actual restaurants, instead of the gameshow format and pretty much tries to turn the failing restaurant and their terrible staff into 'successes'. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 Im watching the repeat of the first episode cause I missed it last week. I knew Ramsey was an asshole, he's got that reputation, but man..I think hes a bit overboard... Anyway, the 2 things I've liked so far are calling the one guy a plank and Jessica, who looks like Mario Batali's sous chef on IC:A The Restaurant from like 2 years ago..was a horrible but pretty funny show. Im not seeing this as being anything more than just horrible as it stands now. -- Holy crap..that plate Elsie made that just stuck to the plate..LOL and throwing the food, plate and all away..I've seen it happen before for nitpickier things than that. One question I've had.."are they (the customers) paying for this meal?" was just answered: NO, cause theres no way a Chef tells a customer to shut the fuck up and they don't storm out and leave. -- "What do you mean closed? This can't be anything more than a joke." Nail, meet hammer. Real restaurant = 12 people being fired tomorrow. I have a feeling they intentionally picked the 12 worst people they could for this. Doublecross! Haven't seen that before... -- 2nd episode has been a bit better. Cleaning squid isn't as bad as they made it out to be..but..its not one of the easiest things to learn and do at the same time without screwing it up (holes). Aww..no air conditioning. Poor blue team. DEWBERRY! That was funny. "WAH WAH! I want my mommy!" The customers ordering a pizza was funny too. Red Team sucks, and Dewberry has to be gone.. Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2005 I love this show. It's great to have some entertaining new programming for the summer.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 I can't believe he goes off on the customers too (if its legit). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Amazing what a top chef giving away free food can get away with, ain't it? Id let him curse me from one side of the place to the other for a free meal and a chance to be on TV.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2005 This dining room challenge (set up a table for 6) reminds me so much of my Principles of Dining Room Service Class..even to the point that the class was at 7 am and everyone was falling asleep durring the lectures. MMMM...pigeon and frog legs..Cant say I have cooked either although I've eaten both before. And my new favorite phrase = "Burn and Learn Baby"
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2005 Sooner or later we will get a reality TV show on how to drive a limo under a certain time. I'm sure Fox is thinking on the lines of what i just said.
dubq 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2005 Good show. I was hoping for Ralph to win in the end, but instead it went to the skinny, creepy, punk dork.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 I was thinking Ralph too. Shame, but it was obvious those two were the only ones who deserved to win, so at least it was one of the two.
Aero 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2005 I mentioned it in a thread in the WWE folder, but I was glad Michael won. Ralph just kept getting on my nerves for whatever reason. His restaurant did look better than Michael's, though.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 It was weird in that Michael and Ralph were 100x better than everyone else. Ralph seemed to grasp the leadership part and the hot plate best while Michael was obviously a better cook. Ralph did have some whack ideas throughout the show for food, but he was a good guy and I felt if they would've pussed out and gave both men a restaurant in the end, I wouldn't have hated it. Dewberry needs to go. Nuff said. I hope they bring this back next summer. Good fun IMO.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 This question was never answered in the other thread, but will Michael still get his own restaurant or did he forfeit that by accepting Ramsay's offer to train under him?
dubq 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2005 I think he forfeits it. That was the impression I got at least. At which point, the whole point of the contest was nulled. They should've given the restaurant to Ralph as a parting gift, lol. Also, Ramsay kinda gave away that he'd already chosen who'd win early in the last episode. He said something to the effect of "if you could put Ralph's assertiveness into Michael's body, then you'd have the perfect chef." I guess insinuating that Michael was better at everything than Ralph was, except asserting himself.
