spman 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 (edited) Anyone else catch this on NBC tonight? Tifanny was still pretty hot (Was she pregnant) and Cece Peniston was still pretty good. A Flock of Seagulls and Loverboy on the other hand looked and sounded flat out awful. I suppose when the bank dries up, the women leave, and you can't afford your coke habit anymore, that's bound to happen. Really though, I was astonished at how terrible Ali Score looked. Man, those guys must pray to god before they go to sleep everynight that they can wake up and be in 1984 again. Still pretty good show, it's always fun to watch these washed up has beens make a futile attempt to relive the past. *edit* Fuuuuuck I'm stupid. Someone move this to Movies and TV please? Thanks. starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2005 Anyone else catch this on NBC tonight? Tifanny was still pretty hot (Was she pregnant) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Looked like it to me. BTW, here's a cheap plug for my IP recap of the show. Briefly: - Loverboy did a pretty good cover of "Hero", taking it from pop cheese to rock ballad cheese. - CeCe Penniston did okay with a Faith Hill song that I don't really know. - Flock of Seagulls managed to butcher a song that was crap as it was. I didn't think that was possible - Arrested Development kicked ass. - Tiffany did pretty good as well, but it's not that hard to sing an Avril-penned song. - I like the fact that there is no recording contract (that we know of) attached to this. The "winner" getting $20K to a charity of their choice works for me.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Wow, I just turned this show on and Tommy Tutone (of "867-5309" fame) is doing a cover of "All The Small Things". And Haddaway was just on, doing "Toxic".
BUTT 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Vanilla Ice is going to do Destiny's Child's "Survivor"!

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 BTW, here's a cheap plug for my IP recap of the show. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You said that Avril Lavigne sang Breakaway. Why are you the person recapping this show again?
BUTT 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 She didn't sing it, she wrote it.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 She did? Goddamnit, that would imply talent that I've refused to believe she has. Then again, maybe a lot of her songs would sound better if sang by Kelly Clarkson.

Why are you the person recapping this show again? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I only talked about her writing the song, not singing it. Give me some credit - I do put in about 5 minutes of research for this stuff... Genius that I am, I managed to tape CTS instead of NBC, so I only caught the last half (or so) of the show. I'm still looking for a torrent of it. But from what I saw: Haddaway, "Toxic" - eh. Tommy Tutone, "All The Small Things" - lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. The Motels, "Don't Know Why" - A good effort, but no. Vanilla Ice, "Survivor" - I'm not exactly sure what the hell that was. I think it was bordering on Fred Durst territory though. starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Well, I managed to get a review up for last week, thanks to NBC rerunning this show instead of trying to build more of an audience for Scrubs and The Office or something. Because they pulled in such huge ratings last season that they don't need the help. [/sarcasm] And Vanilla Ice's "cover" was even worse the second time around... King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 It's funny. They ran this on UK TV over the past couple of months and got terrible viewing figures. Then, suddenly, they take the idea to America and people lap it up. Crazy.

MDH257 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2005 After seeing Flock of Seagulls and The Motels on Bands Reunited, it's almost some kind of a let down to just see the lead singers on this show.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2005 I think the M.O. is different though. On Bands Reunited you see a huge amount of effort in trying to get the bands to reunite. It is very much about the people, and not really about the songs that they sing at the end. On Hit Me Baby they seem to want the voice - and the rest of the band can come if they'd like. In a way it's a reflection of how modern music is - you can always recognize the vocalists but unless you're a fan, you're not going to know (or care) who the other guys are. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Cameo should have won, for some reason I really dug their R&B version of 1985. Wang Chung's version of Hot in Herre was downright hillarious.
