TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 I remember a couple of freakishly hilarious injuries of recent years. One guy threw out his back putting on cowboy boots, somebody bruised his hand banging on his hotel wall trying to get the people next door to be quiet, one guy sliced his hand on the fan of an air conditioner when he stuck his hand inside, and some dude missed a start because he cut his finger on a pineapple.
Bruiser Chong Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 Urbina and Ramon Martinez to the Phillies for Palanco. I would've figured he'd go to a contending team.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Orioles are getting beat 3-0. Â Everytime they get a runner on, someone hits into a double play. Â Not looking good. Â I wish I knew why the Os suck at Interleague play...
mike546 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 A-Rod hits a 2 run HRer, giving the Yankees two runs. Â I think I forgot what those were for awhile.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Orioles road series win streak dating back to last year is all but over with the Orioles now down 6-1 headed to the 9th. Â God this sucks.
CanadianChris Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 You know, at this time on Sunday, I would've been ecstatis if you told me the Jays would take 2/3 from the Cubs. Now I'm dissatisfied -- they should've swept them!!
Guest Mosaicv2 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 A-Rod hits a 2 run HRer, giving the Yankees two runs. I think I forgot what those were for awhile. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  sure you will.
justcoz Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Why can't anyone just acknowledge that the Pittsburgh Pirates have a pretty decent team developing right now? It's early in the season and I still don't think they will be anywhere near a wild card race but something special is definitely developing here and the media seems obsessed with these up and coming Brewers. It's annoying.

They have some good pitching prospects, but the Pirates have one of the worst front offices in baseball.
geniusMoment Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 The reds may suck, but at least they have their giant Wily back. Its looking more and more like I am going to have to pay Al $10, you should have left it at $100.
Guest OSIcon Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Hey Al - Â Any thoughts on the O's trading for Eli Marrero yesterday? Â For the most part, the people I've talked to or read have been positive about the move, but the announcers on the O's game last night really seemed to downplay. Is this a good pick up, a bad one, or really not much either way?

Marrero can hit a bit, play all three outfield positions, and catch in an emergency. And they gave up practially nothing to obtain him. In a divisional race as tight as the Orioles are going to be in this summer, every little bit helps.

mike546 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Question for Al. Â For all the stuff on how bad the Yankees farm system is, and it is, both Cano and especailly Wang have been very impressive. From what I've seen of Cano, hes a very streaky hitter with good power to both sides of the field. Wang has a great presence, is third in the majors in 1,2,3 innings, and has been just terrific. So I'm wondering, how good can these to be in the majors?

So I'm wondering, how good can these to be in the majors? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>  Wang is an average pitching prospect. He's 25 right now, so his ceiling is not much higher. While his 4.03 ERA is decent, he has only 15 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings pitched. If there is any truth to the theory that pitchers struggle their second time through the league, then Wang will be that pitcher. Long term, he is a good 4th or 5th starter.  Robinson Cano needs to improve his plate discipline. With only three walks in 111 ABs, Cano sports a gaudy .267 OBP. I honestly think Cano needs more development time at AAA. Long term, Cano is still young, and he should develop into an MLB caliber hitter. Most encouraging for Yankee fans is that Cano's defense, his main concern coming into this season, has looked extremely good so far. I think Cano could make a good second baseman in the Majors, and maybe sneak into an All-Star game or two.
mike546 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 To me, theres a difference between Cano not being disciplined at the plate, and Soriano not being disciplined at the plate. From what I've seen, Cano has a good eye, he just swings at everything close. He also doesn't swing at the Soriano slider, which is already an improvement. Â

Soriano.
mike546 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 I didn't say he wasn't. Â I'm just saying at the time, specifically the entire 03 playoffs, you could throw him a slider down and away, and he'd swing and miss at everyone. Not to say he hasn't improved, because he probably has.

mike546 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 All their stats are basically pretty equal, with Sorianos HRers towering above everyone elses, and Sorianos OBP being a bit lower.

Vern Gagne Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 When does Soriano end up moving to the OF, where he's much better suited for?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 When does Soriano end up moving to the OF, where he's much better suited for? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Â If he does, likely when Ian Kinsler starts pounding on the door.
Precious Roy Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Cano could probably use another year in AAA, but he looks like a potential .275 25-30 hr guy if he can get a little more patient and experienced at the plate, he takes good cuts but he just takes them at the wrong pitches sometimes, and he has no clue how to work a count. His defense hasn't been perfect, but it's better than advertised. And I don't necessarily have a problem with this being his learning year in the bigs, IF they plan on keeping him around for the long term. If they're just showcasing him for a midseason trade I'll be mildly pissed off.
mike546 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Fuck giving up Cano if we try to get Zito at the deadline, if hes even being let go. With the way things are going, i see no one player being availale at the deadline worth giving up Cano.
Fuzzy Dunlop Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 You know, when the schedule first came out, we were all so hyped. Pedro/Zambrano, Schilling/Prior, Wells/Maddux, Clement making his return to Wrigley, Nomar batting against his former team... but seriously, here in Chicago the hype for this could not possibly be any bigger. Even if Sunday'll be Wakefield/Rusch.
Bored Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Nationals traded Tomo Ohka to the Brewers for Junior Spivey.
