As a Jays Fan, and mostly a follower of the AL Easy due to geographical restrictions, does anyone else think Hinske is overrated?

 

We're expecting him to be as good as he was in 2002. He's not a letdown, but he can't match 2002 again.

remember its Buck and McCarer possibly the worst announcing team to ever call the postseason, they alternate between kissing diffrent players asses. Usually in the playoffs buck and mcarver come across as though they hate the yanks anyway.

 

 

first GS or no they won the game thats what matters to me, sure I'm happy for him but in the long run it wasnt who hit it or who he hit it off it was the fact that it happened effectively ending the game in the 6th.

Yankee fans love to act like they're the rich kid who gets picked on just for having money, but the truth is, the team gets the most attention of any other squad in baseball and I'd say, they're easily MLB favorites. Hell, Randy Johnson coming to the team suddenly made them automatic World Series participants according to the majority of the media.

^Bias is bias, why people are bias doesn't matter. I've seen about 3 weeks worth of these threads and it certainly seems like people are quicker to talk about the Yanks when they're fucking up as opposed to when they're winning.

Quite simply, the Yankees imploding is more interesting than the Yankees winning. The 1999 and 2000 World Series were dull, dull, dull. Suddenly they lose badly to the Angels in 2002, flop versus the Fish in 2003, and are shocked in 2004 by the Red Sox. Those stories were interesting.

Sure, there was some interest. But the 2000 Yankees were an 87 win team, and the Mets were a wild card entrant. The Yankees were better than their record, but the two teams were frankly not of high caliber. And the Yankees disposed of the Mets fairly easily, in five games. By that point, we had seen three consecutive world series go five games or less.

I still don't know how the Mets made the World Series in 2000 with a starting outfield of Benny Agbayani, Jay Payton and Timo Perez. The 99 Mets were a much better team and might have given the Yankees a better series.

Because the St. Louis Cardinals suffered a horrific collapse in the postseason. Rick Ankiel came up with a sudden case of Steve Blass disease. Garret Stephenson suffered a serious elbow injury in the previous series and missed the next year. On top of that, the Mets' top pitchers were lefties Al Leiter and Mike Hampton, and the Cardinals' top hitters were Will Clark (lefty), Jim Edmonds (lefty), J.D. Drew (lefty), Fernando Vina (lefty), and Ray Lankford (lefty). The Mets ran into a dream matchup that year in the NLCS.

Its amazing the Yankees even lasted 7 games in 01. Beside tieing the games in four and five in the 9th, didn't they hit like .189 as a team in that series? Sure RJ and Schilling had a combined 5 starts, but .189 BA is still pathetic.

They hit .183 actually. Derek Jeter's game winning home run was his only RBI in the entire series. If the Yankees won that series, I would have never tolerated any bitching about the 1960 World Series ever again.

While it is very difficult to determine clutch ability, if in fact it exists, hits in clutch situations do exist. Sean Casey had a ton of those last season.

Went to Fenway today, another great start by Clement and the offense woke up from their slumber. The funniest thing I saw was a guy outside the Cask N' Flagon after the game shaking a cup of change and holding a sign that read "I won't lie, I want a beer."

Bear in mind the Sox only tied that game because of the "error" that should have been an out, with the runner reaching on the "error" becoming the winning run.

 

I can't fault Larry Young too much because we had the benefit or replay and he didn't, but it wasn't entirely the Dodger bullpen that cost them the game tonight

The guy who called the game with Morgan tonight was horrific. He thought a freaking GROUND RULE double got caught.
