Ultimate Warrior 2-Disc DVD

Recommended Posts

Has this DVD been officially confirmed?

I've not seen or heard anything on WWE.com, and I've checked Amazon.com to see if they've got a pre-order for it, and I don't see it. But it does seem odd that deepdiscountdvd.com would go through the hassle of taking pre-orders for something that they'll have to turn around and cancel because it's not true.

Therefore, I'm not sure about any of it. It was rumored near the beginning of the year that a Warrior set was going to happen, and now there's a pre-order for it, so it seems likely.

That's quite the title. If it lived up to it's promise I would certainly buy it.

Can they even use that name? I mean, didn't he win a court case for the rights of his ring name and gimmick?

He got to keep Warrior because he changed his name to that.

Ultimate Warrior, on the other hand, I believe WWE owns.

Acclaim used the Ultimate Warrior for Legends of Wrestling 3...

Self destruction of the Warrior....

Vince: The Warrior wanted to do a run-in at WM12 and win the WWE title. I was about to allow that but I realized the Warrior doesn't work house shows or show up to TV events. If the Warrior had won, the Montreal wouldn't of happened. So in a way, the Warrior screwed Bret.

I didn't get enough sleep.

The best Rude match was the SS 89 match. SS 90 was nothing and WM 5 had the single worst finish to be repeated ad nauseum to this very day (Heenan holding Warrior's foot on the old suplex into the ring spot). I loathe that spot.

That was a really good shoot interview, and I'm glad it's out there to put to rest a lot of the bad misconceptions about him.

As far as the dvd goes...I saw a pre-order up the other day at Highspots.com. So maybe it is indeed real. As far as "The Self Destruction" bit...I think the WWE simply fucked up as usual.

Ive pretty much have lost all recollection of his run in WCW. Did they ever do any sort of angle with Sting when he was there?

They teamed for a Nitro against Hart/Hogan, but he only feuded with Hogan and left in 11/98.

The first mention of this being confirmed will be by Silvervision, which should be in early August or September.

I've seen six Warrior matches that were tolerable, ever:

Summerslam '88 vs. Honkeytonk Man

Wrestlemania V vs. Rick Rude

Wrestlemania VI vs. Hulk Hogan

WWF title defense in Japan vs. Ted Dibiase

Wrestlemania VII vs. Randy Savage

Wrestlemania XII vs. HHH

What are your thoughts on Warrior/Savage from Summerslam '92?

--------

As for the DVD, I'd purchase solely for Warrior/Savage from Wrestlemania VII. If that's not on there, I'm going to need Warrior/HTM(SS '88), Warrior/Rude (SS '89) and Warrior/Savage (SS '92) to justify that.

Hi everyone,

I know there is a great deal of BS and lies on the internet, so I understand if you do not believe me during this post, but I will go ahead anyway. I do not want to disclose my name, as I know the company monitors the internet quite tight, but I have been working as an intern at the production department of Titan Television (WWE's studios). I have been involved in the making of several DVD projects these past few months, one of which was the forthcoming Ultimate Warrior 2 disc set.

While I can't give out too many specifics on the set, I can tell you a few things that may upset you as Warrior fans, and would like your feedback which I will happily return to my supervisor, Mr Chambers.

First off, Vince McMahon and Warrior have actually spoke several times regarding this DVD. Those of you who have purchased WWE 'Legends' DVDs will know how they work...there is a documentary on the wrestler, and fellow superstars and office staff will talk about that wrestler - memories, favorite moments, opinions, backstage stories, etc. We recently released a DVD on the Road Warriors, which featured Animal tracing the roots of the characters and giving insights into their careers as superstars, wrestlers, and men.

Vince wanted Warrior to do the same, and called him at home. Warrior apparently has his own documentary film coming soon and said to Vince he would like to do a deal where they could have flyers inside each DVD to help advertise the other one. Mr McMahon said he didn't want to do this, as it wouldn't be a 50-50 beneficial deal(it would benefit Warrior much more than WWE), and that the shareholders wouldn't like advertising with a former talent.

Warrior was worried about being seen as a hypocrite if he appeared on the DVD, and when Vince refused advertising and a smaller fee than what Warrior wanted, Warrior refused steadfast to participate in it. Negotiations ended there on the phone, and I was told by my supervisor that Vince told Warrior "Well then, we'll see what happens."

I can reveal to you that this DVD is not going to be one that fans will want to see. Many talents have appeared on this disc to talk about Warrior - Bobby Heenan, Pat Patterson, Paul London, HHH, JR, John Cena, Batista, Hogan, Eddie, Benoit and others - and every single one of them has painted him a negative light. All the comments make fun of Warrior, and talk about what an idiot, flash in the pan, and lucky guy he was.

There are also two bonus features on disc 2. The first is "Ultimate Impressions" in which current WWE superstars do their best impersonation of Warrior. It is sad to say the least - Benoit foams at the mouth and yells at the top of his voice...HHH messes his hair all up and pretends to be Warrior shaking the ropes, and Batista ties some bootlaces around his arms and talks to his hands. More insulting, there is a "Warrior Calamaties" montage of times when Warrior has made mistakes - slipping over, bloopers during interviews, botched moves, etc.

Basically, the whole thing is made to have the message that Warrior was intense and powerful, but also a bit of an idiot. He is painted in the same light as Doink, Repo Man and Duke Droese, rather than as a legend next to Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Andre. Sad - because the majority of people who would buy this would be UW fans from the 80s...and once they know that this is a giant farce, they will boycott it and the DVD will fail to sell.

That is the most deluded forum in the history of the internet.

For fun, I glanced through a few threads and was amazed at these long posts that defended Warrior at every step. A new poster questioned why Warrior never had a clean pinfall loss in his entire WWF and WCW career (Warrior=Overrated). The response?

Well the reason it wasn’t a clean win is because Warrior wouldn’t do that, your right there, he was very protective of the UW character. He never loved the business as much as he loved his character and the how people perceived it, that makes him different from other wrestlers, he just saw things differently, different things were important to him.

The UW. character was indestructible, that’s how it sold tickets, and you right he didn’t sell taking beating that much, but if you really look at it the character called for that (although he did sell Undertaker, Warrior admitted that he like Undertaker and wanted help him get over with the fans).

I don’t understand how getting pinned makes would have made him more of a legend, I would say the fact that he never got pinned, even on a pretend stage like wrestling should earn him even more praise. That’s what I never got about wrestling fans they think your suppose to give back to the business not to the fans themselves who buy the tickets and make wrestlers who they are in the business. They assume "work” becomes more important then the creation and I just don’t get that. Certain guys are married to the business, Warrior isn’t should he have to apologize about that. The guy created something and didn’t let anyone F. with it, you can take either side on that, I‘d rather take the side of the person who wouldn’t let anyone tell him what to do, but that’s just me.

This goes on for a while, too.

I dunno. That guy thinks less people will want this? Knowing those special features, especially if they put some decent matches on there, I will love this set. Seeing those imitations and the other goofy things make this more of a must have in my belief.

I fail to see the falsity. It will be funny, however, to see how Triple H verbally attacks Warrior, given that Ultimate Warrior is one of the *very* select group of people that Hunter needs to get his job back from.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm glad they're taking this direction for Ultimate Warrior's DVD. If they just tried to give an unbiased look at his former matches (his five or six standout matches I simply never need to see again), then I wouldn't pay a cent for it, and I'd be even more annoyed that he got his own DVD before the obvious Chris Jericho DVD that I'm waiting on.
