Asked about the incident, Johansson’s momager, Melanie Johansson, referred Radar to a publicist, who did not return calls or emails seeking comment. After striking out with Johansson, Cruise reportedly turned his attentions to 24-year-old Jessica Alba, 22-year-old Kate Bosworth, and 18-year-old Lindsay Lohan, before settling on the 26-year-old Holmes. As far we know, Cruise’s War of the Worlds co-star, Dakota Fanning, was never under consideration.

I'm not going to debate the merits of psychology or anything since I only took one psychology class and well I thought it was all bullshit.

 

 

I find it hilarious that you're able to discount an entire field of research after taking one class in it.

 

And I don't take issue with him saying that Matt Lauer doesn't know about psychology, nor do I think he's evil or anything like that. However, it irks me that he makes these broad, sweeping statements, and doesn't back them up. In fact almost every concrete thing he says is wrong, or irrelevant.

Cruise's actual argument was against PSYCHIATRY, not PSYCHOLOGY.

 

There's a BIG difference: One's a social science, the other's a medical practice. Psychology has nothing to do with drugs, but the study of human behavior. Psychiatrists are MEDICAL DOCTORS who treat mental illness.

 

His argument was centered around with his disapproval of the use of medication to treat mental health problems. That's PSYCHIATRY. The fact that Cruise doesn't know the difference, and was using the two terms interchangably, PROVES he's talking out of his ass.

 

Cruise presented no actual argument against the practice of clinical psychology, or psychology as a larger social science. However, he did mention it negatively in his attack. The social science of psychology involves hundreds of theories, many of which have been proven and reproven hundreds of times over. For anyone to dismiss the entire field would be a ridicules display of ignorance.

 

I've had to take multiple psychology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and let me assure you, it IS a valid field of study.

Shields Thanks Cruise for "Validating" Her Book

 

Hollywood beauty Brooke Shields has thanked Tom Cruise for drawing attention to her book on post-natal depression, after he publicly criticized the actress for using anti-depressants. The former Suddenly Susan beauty suffered post-partum depression following the birth of her daughter Rowan and has praised the drug Paxil for helping her to return to a happier state of mind. Shields has written about her experiences with the illness in her tell-all Down Came The Rain. Cruise caused controversy last month when he lambasted Shields' "misguided" drug use and asking, "Where has her career gone?", while claiming vitamins would have cured her of her depression, on TV show Access Hollywood. Cruise renewed his argument against prescribed drugs talking to reporter Matt Lauer on the Today show last Friday, saying, "She (Brooke) doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do." Shields is amazed by Cruise's stance that he knows enough about post-natal depression to tell her how to deal with the illness, despite the actor having no first-hand knowledge as he adopted two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Shields says, "In many ways, I think he's just validated my book. Has he had a baby? Anything that highlights the help available to the thousands of women who suffer is fine by me. Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women decide what treatment is best."

Going from several transcripts I found, he did use both terms in the interview.

 

His beef is with the pharmacutical part of psychiatry, but to bash the entirety of either field based on this is ridicules. Drugs have nothing to do with the study of psychology.

I just don't really see the big deal with what he said, and I have no problem with him speaking his mind. The stuff he said about Brooke Shields on Access Hollywood I thought was wrong, but since Matt Lauer brought up the subject, I don't see a problem with Cruise discussing it with him or sharing his views, however out there they might be.

Returns to Planet of Origin on Eve of Film’s Debut

 

Actor Tom Cruise stunned the worlds of cinema and space travel today, bidding Earth farewell forever as he returned to his planet of origin.

 

At a launch pad on the outskirts of Malibu constructed specifically for his intergalactic journey, Mr. Cruise spoke briefly to friends, well-wishers, and Larry King, who was covering the launch for CNN.
