Re-Animator vs Land of the Dead 4. Shaun of the Dead vs Dawn of the Dead [Original] (Shaun has one of the tightest scripts EVER, as I can't think of a single plothole outside of Shaun disappearing and then re-appearing a few minutes later at the Winchester)
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Cemetery Man Night of the Living Dead [Original] Re-Animator Dawn of the Dead [Original]
Special K Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Cemetary Man (wow, more people have seen this than I thought) Braindead-Dead/Alive Land of the Dead You're killin' me. Dawn of the Dead. P.S. any reason Versus wasn't in the 1st round and Wild Zero was? Neither would have won, but Versus is way better, rock and roll knowing no boundaries of gender, sexuality or religion or not.
dubq Posted July 12, 2005 Author Report Posted July 12, 2005 4. Shaun of the Dead vs Dawn of the Dead [Original] (Shaun has one of the tightest scripts EVER, as I can't think of a single plothole outside of Shaun disappearing and then re-appearing a few minutes later at the Winchester) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I love how they even admit it and explain what happened in the special features of the DVD.

I figured we should have at least one Japanese flick in there so flipped a coin. Wild Zero won.

And they make it part of the joke, too. "Contrary to recent beliefs, zombies are slow-moving creatures."

UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Here are my votes. ROUND 2 1. Cemetery Man vs Dawn of the Dead [Remake] I haven't seen "Cemetary Man", so I will refrain from voting. 2. Dead Alive/Braindead vs Night of the Living Dead [Original] DEAD ALIVE, easily. 3. Re-Animator vs Land of the Dead RE-ANIMATOR defeats the 15th worst movie of the 16 in the tourney, IMO. 4. Shaun of the Dead vs Dawn of the Dead [Original] IMO, Shaun is too "funny cool" a movie to really be put in this. So I am going with Dawn (Original), just because of the ripping apart the guts and torso scenes, which put it over the top. _______________ And by the way, for all the people bringing up "Zeitgeist" (Spirit of the Times, my favorite word learned in school) and "Romeo's social commentary"... Who the FUCK cares. Social commentary has no place in horror films. I am supposed to be scared and amazed, not think about politics and the real walking mindless that already plague the nation.
Corey_Lazarus Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Ummm...social commentary has been in horror forever, dude. Even Frankenstein was filled with a shitload of social commentary about why man shouldn't play God, and how people fear what they don't understand. Saying social commentary shouldn't be in horror films is like saying gore shouldn't be in horror films. I mean, what's so scary about somebody getting their head ripped off when I've seen it a hundred times on the evening news?
Gary Floyd Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Social commentary has always been a part of horror. Look at H.P. Lovecrafts "The Shadiw over Innsmouth", which essentially, a commentary on capitalism and greed. "Frankenstein", not only the film, but the book, is rife with social commentary. Basically, saying social commentary and horror don't go together is like saying sex and horror don't go together.
