alfdogg 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Of course he does. He's what, 19? People are too quick to say "OMG TEHY SHUD HAEV DRAFETD CARMELO OR WADE OR BOSH~!!!!!11111" when he didn't get into games or when he looked bad coming in cold late in games. It probably won't happen in Detroit, but if he can get playing time like Primoz in Charlotte, I think he'll do fine.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 I've got about the same ammount of hope for him being an all-star that I had when he was drafted, which is very little...
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 If he doesn't start to get something going this season, I think it'll hurt his psyche because it'll be 3 years and nothing to show for it. Usually you start to show something by year 3.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 You can see flashes when he plays, and he definately has skills, but playing for Larry Brown is what is killing him. When I hear Larry Brown say he isn't good enough to get minutes, it means nothing. This was the same guy that says that leaving Amare Stoudimire and Dwayne Wade on the bench during the Olympics was a good stragedy because the other players gave him a better chance to win. The Pistons should trade him, because I think if he sits on the bench another year, there is no way that he is going to resign. He would be crazy to do so. Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Part of Larry Brown's thing against Darko is that he hates playing guys who aren't outstanding defenders. Darko does show he can score if he is given a chance and perhaps the Pistons could've used some scoring in the finals when they were having stretches where they couldn't throw a beach ball in the ocean. Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 I think if the 2nd and 3rd picks were switched people would be talking about Anthony being a bust right now, because there's no way a no-defense,one-on-one slash-and-score basketball player would be getting playing time from Larry Brown. Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 From watching Darko play, he is way to aggresive defensively...like he can block everyshot that goes up. Not so much aggressive on the boards, but when it comes to challenging shots he goes at them all. I say that him fouling so much is due to his timing being off because he is rotting on the bench, but the willingness is something that shows he could be a defender. bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Still have hope of fulfilling the promise of a #2 pick? No. Still have hope of becoming a productive player? Absolutely.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Being A number 2 pick? he very well could. being the Number 2 pick in that draft? i doubt it. I think being better than Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade are going to be/are is a tall order for most players in the league.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2005 The way things are going with Larry Brown right now, I think the best thing for Darko is Flip Saunders. I agree that the kid needs playing time, but at the same time he hadn't been able to participate in critical playing time in the summer camps due to injury. That took away crucial time that could have developed Darko's abilities. If Brown comes back, I don;t think there is any way Darko is going to see PT during the season unless he shows *massive* (for Larry) improvement in the camps. He is on his way towards becoming a better player, thanks to a better attitude and gaining some maturity somewhere between being drafted at 17 to the present day. I think he will be a good player, if not great. I just hope that it happens with the Pistons, rather than elsewhere.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2005 I agree Flip is better for Darko, but I dont feel he's better for the team as a whole. I'm not particularly impressed by Flip and I think the team's defensive intensity will take a hit if LB leaves. All they need to do is build up some more depth on the bench, and they're a great championship contender. Also, after next year, I think the chances of one of the starters or pieces leaving become greater since salaries start catching up, and pretty much all of the 4 starters aside from Rasheed, will probably want (and deserve) a pay raise. Ben's a FA after next season, i thik Prince is too though it may be restricted. I dont feel its worth risking a championship year, possibly the last great one, for darko millicic. Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2005 But do you risk losing a young, talented guy who will DEFINATELY leave if he doesn't get the time. I mean, valuable 20-30 minutes a game won't kill the team, and keep the players fresher for the end of the year.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2005 I agree, Rip. My major knock against Larry Brown is the fact that he never plays younger players, a fact that was glaring in the Olympics. That philosophy basically bit the Pistons in ther collective asses in the postseason, when the starters came up *just* short in Game 7 of the Finals. I am convinced that if Brown had loosened up his rotation, the starters would have been fresher for the postseason and perhaps had won through. But thats spiltting hairs, I guess. The way things are looking right now, Larry Brown is coming back for this season. Personally, I am so over the drama its ridiculous. From Larry's flirting with other teams, to the media (both local and national) blowing it up to the point of bombasticity (is that a word?), I just want this to end with Larry honoring his contract (for once) and not ever hearing about it again, but I know that it will start up all over again, particularly if the Pistons fall short or god forbid miss the playoffs altogether. Ced 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2005 I think I'm seeing what everybody else is seeing at this point. It's not even his fault, and some people are looking at him as a bust. The guy just turned 20 and seriously needs to be in the rotation to truly develop. Unless Larry Brown gives Darko some decent in-game minutes instead of using him as the Human Victory Cigar, it won't be surprising if Darko wants out of Detroit. And if that scenario arises, it'll be safe to say that Larry Brown and the Pistons organization COMPLETELY FUCKED UP the Darko experiment.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2005 That's the thing that kills me about it. The majority of what is going on is not his fault. He's not totally blameless though, especially after he opened his mouth about playing time earlier this year. Speaking of busts, Kwame Brown is doing a lot of chirping. Thoughts?
Ripper 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 I wouldn't call Kwame a bust. He was in a horrid place for a big man while he was in Washington. And doug collins and Michael Jordan cutting him off at his knees his rookie year didn't help.
ant_7000 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Kwame is a bust, I don't buy this he'll be a better player now that he's out of Washington stuff. He's a role player now that'll barely get 10 pts a game.
